Subtitles are better because of accuracy and just better. It's just funnier to see Kung fu movies that are dubs to see they're mouth move and the voice doesn't correspond and they attack some one while still talking or something buwahahahahahahaha xd

I think watching films is such a great way to learn a language

I sometimes worry about accuracy in subtitles, especially with fansubs, but I still prefer them over the dub. Some people thought Spirited Away was annoying because of the little girl screaming all the time. I didn't think the dub was bad, but the original language with subtitles was much better.

If you really want to see 8 1/2, you better get that queued up as priority!

Anyway, I've recently seen some anime dubs and my biggest annoyance is pronunciation of Japanese names. They emphasize at the wrong syllable.

Sarah's Rules of Subs vs Dubs:
1. A good dub is better than bad subtitles, but no dubbing is better than a good subtitling.
2. Bad dubs are sometimes entertaining in their badness, but for actual accuracy, they're always lacking.
3. People who say it's too hard to read and watch at the same time are lazy ********. Subs and dubs will always have mistakes. No matter how big or high budget the movie is, no translation is without error.

Let's share amusing sub and dub error stories! In Amelie, which you'd think was big enough that they'd be able to afford editors for the subtitles, there are two mistakes that I have noticed. When Amelie is talking to Nino on the pay phone after giving him back the photo album, the last thing she says to him is the page number where her pictures are. This is incorrectly translated to some sort of street name. I can't even fathom how they could make that mistake! The second is escaping me at the moment, but I'll remember it later.
And of course, no anime is complete without "hai" being translated to "yup" "sure" "okay" "righto!", and a barrage of other affirmatives.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that, seeing how some words can be taken different ways. I know I ask my mom to translate often for me and although it isn't strict, I think it's fine as long as you get the general idea of what's being said.

For instance, watching American Adobo, I remember a character saying something like 'He annoys me!' when the literal translation was 'He makes my head hurt!'

HK movie subtitles are the worst. Especially Tai Seng.

Have you heard Bible Black dubbed? I don't usually hear hentai dubbed because most of them come subtitled. I saw Bible Black on DVD. They all sound like they're parodying it when it's dubbed.
