Personally I'd rather read subtitles then watch a dubbed over version of a movie. There seems to be so much more lost when they attempt to do the voice overs in English.
I was wondering what every one else thinks, and if you were given the same movie, one in English (dubbed) and one in its origional language, which would you pick.

I love kung fu dubs and prefer them over original language subtitles.
The 90s dubs are just bad, though. Especially for Jet Li movies where they even manage to change the title.
All other foreign films, I'll take the subtitled version. 3nodding

Except for Chinese action movies, I'll take the subtitles.

My favorite line from any movie ever is from the dubbed version of 'Twin Dragons' starring Jet Li.
I will destroy your skill!

I don't think I've seen many non-Asian foreign films dubbed.
Not many non-Asian foreign films hit theaters dubbed.
I know a lot of people who just HATE subtitles, especially after working in a movie theater. Their main complaint is reading more than actually watching what's going on in the movie. I watch American movies subtitled. I think I just read better compared to actually hearing the dialogue. I don't hate dubbing since I'm curious about how they would sound in a different language. My X-Files DVD boxsets have foreign dubs as extras. The German dub sounds pretty cool, except Scully sounds like a man.

i for one absolutely HATE dubbs... it completely ruins the entire mood of the movie, really really puts me off. It is sad to see quite alot of viewers refuse to watch dubbed film, coz reading is too much trouble rolleyes .

i like dubs. i think it makes a movie so funny. especially when what they doesn't make any sense at all. blaugh
but, i only watch dubs when i've already seen that movie/show/series/etc. if it's my first time watching, i'd prefer subbed.
just like mkat and karo stated, i like mostly kung-fu dubbed. if it's subtitled, its so hard to read because it's white font and it's usually chopped off at the bottom. blah, i hate that.. stressed
if it's a subbed kung-fu film, you can't hear when they say stuff like "what's more...long pause....blahblahblah" ahahah and those pauses in between sentences. the dub makes it so much cooler. xd

It depends. Usually I prefer subs because I hate it when the voices don't match up to their mouth movements. sweatdrop But if I'm being lazy, I'll watch dubs. Although on most of my movies, they only have subs available.

I don't see why you would entirely hate dubs, I mean, like Magnavox said, I sometimes listen to dubs when I'm lazy (meaning I don't watch them, I just listen). Of course, that usually means I listen to them while I'm on the verge of falling asleep. sweatdrop

Subtitles please! Though, I watch a lot of Italian/French films, both of which I speak pretty well.
I think if a film is done really well you sort of get into this groove, where even if you're not fluent in the language, at some point you realize during the movie that you understand exactly what is going on and what they're saying, even w/o reading the subtitles.
However, I will add ~ even though I prefer subtitles ~ I thought the Volcano High dubbs were great. I had fun just trying to figure out who the voice overs were by ~

The last Italian movie I saw was I'm Not Scared. I remember I promised myself I will watch it as often as I could to see if I could pick up some Italian.
