I tend to do cross overs. Usually I write fics in order to right somthing that I find wrong in canon. Or because I think that it would be more intresting a certain way, or because I just want to bash certain characters. I am currently writng but haven' always posted: X-men, Batman, Ranma 1/2, Harry Potter, Buffy, slayers, Labryinth, Inuyasha, and several misc, books.

You don't find it remotly wrong to disagree with the canon? Oh, sure its easy to find pairings that people don't like, but honestly, doesn't the original author of the fandom know what pairings are best in their fandom?Besides that, if its canon, there is no way to right it. It is as the author left it.

I won't start to pretend I've never written a non-canon pairing, but it wasn't because I thought I needed to 'right' the fandom. There isn't really any way to do that.

Its fine to have opinions on pairings in certain fandoms, but to claim to 'right' a canon is to disrespect both the author and fans of the series/game/book.

And now, I'll leave before my loosely constructed soapbox takes a plunge.

I jump fandoms like the ninja from Naruto jump through trees.

The fandoms I write the most for, however, would have to be Vision of Escaflowne, Naruto and Teen Titans. I write for each of them for different and yet similar reasons at the core of the argument.

Escaflowne, being one of the first anime I've ever seen in my life (taking a back seat to Sailor Moon and sitting alongside Digimon), is very near and dear to my heart. However, by the time I'd found fanfiction, I'd found that I was most interested in the characters we knew next to nothing about--Dilandau's Dragonslayers. As such, I felt compelled to "tell their stories", I suppose. Sadly it feels more like original fiction sometimes because of the sheer lack of anything we have to work on with them, but I find their dynamics to be far more interesting than those of Van and co.

Naruto was a bandwagon I could hardly miss, and there's tons of characters to play around with. I like to explore their personalities and the way they interact with one another. Besides--they're ninja. It's a weak point with everybody--particularly certain bloodlines and clans. (Death to the Uchiha, the Hyuuga are way more interesting.)

As for Teen Titans, although I'm not overly familiar with the comics, the cartoon had me hooked. I love the characters, I adore the villains, and the plot of each season itself! Makes me wish I could read the comics...

Err, well, not to start wank, but I don't particularly agree with how you worded things or certain intents of your crossovers (as you've put them here). Well I can certainly understand not liking how things turn out in Canon, we have to accept that that's what happened. Sure we can write fanfics and such where it didn't, though they're strictly AU by that point, but by doing so we're not "righting" something, IMO. If the original creator had it happen that way, well, then it was supposed to happen and it wasn't "wrong" to begin with, no matter how much we may hate it.

As for bashing characters, take it from somebody who used to do so. Don't do it. Every character serves some purpose, and just because we don't like them (usually for some petty reason), it doesn't give us a right to bash the hell out of them. By doing so, we're disrespecting the original creator. Or at least, that's my opinion on the matter.

I don't remember a time I ever bashed a character. I know that when I don't like a character I never write with them. I suppose its easier for me than making fun of them or trying to figure out their characterization.

There is one character I write with that I don't like, but his characterization is so blatantly...stereotypical and shallow he's easy to write and not worry about developing. (Otogi Ryuuji/Duke Devil from Yugioh, if you were curious.)

Well, I recall clearly the days when I bashed characters I disliked for no plausible reasons that I can remember, and want to beat my head against a wall as punishment. It took me a while before I, shall I say, saw the light?

These days, I try to avoid using characters that I dislike, or if I can't avoid it, I don't really put much focus on them. I suppose in a sense that's also disrespecting the character, but I'd rather not run the risk of my dislike for them shine through from another's mouth or through the prose itself, ya know?

Ah, Otogi. I would argue in his defense, though I would likely lose, as I've only once tried to write him and I haven't been in the Yugioh fandom in quite a while. Also, frankly, I wouldn't want to disrespect your opinion.

It could be, depending on your view. But trying to force a character and getting them wrong could be an even worse insult.

Meh. sweatdrop I've always been terrible with debates. I put too much feeling into them.

But yes, I rather dislike both Otogi and Honda. I never did set store by their interest in Shizuka, so that was a large part of it. But I suppose I can blame that on the fact I was kidnapped by violent SetoxShizuka shippers the moment I touched ground in the fandom and was caught up in the giant Silentshipping rush.

Of course, I've betrayed them all now. My OTP (I have written five to date and I'm currently the only writer to ever write more than one of these.) is PegasusxShizuka. razz It makes me giggle, actually. I hated the pairing when I first heard it/joined the challenge to write it. It, quite literally, freaked the crap out of me. xp But something changed (not sure what) but I'm in love with it now.

I do give Otogi credit for his theme music in the Abridged Series, though. I love that music. And it fits him so well. xd

Respect or disrespect of canon characters shouldn't be an issue if the story doesn't 'have' to involve them. In generally every series, there will be at least one obnoxious character that serves no other purpose than to be a plot device/some sort of icebreaker/just there for fans. Where at they can't be avoided in the canon series, in fanfiction where the writer has control over events it usually isn't a big deal to skim over or completely ignore someone you don't like. It's more about the individual writer's skill that determines how the plot and scenes unfold. Then again, I happen to HATE with a burning passion the 'Canon' of my main field, so I'm pretty jaded on that point.

Oh, random question; would a super Mario Strikers fanfic be a good idea to try and write?

yeah it would. It would be fun

Cool. It'll probably go nowhere because I'm lazy, but the idea of a fic about the Mushroom kingdom cup would be interesting to write.

yeah i like other peoples opinions about other places it's the joy of fanfiction.

Or a hassle, depending on the type of opinions given.

I guess it's because I like that fandom so much.

I want to manipulate the characters and the story as my own. It kind of gives me the feeling that I can make a difference in the flow of story of that particular fandom. It's a nice feeling, like you're the one in control.

Question is, are you still having a nice feeling once the characters (that is, if you use OC's along with Canon characters, or an AU setting) begin breaking the bounds you set and becoming almost real.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that this topic has spurred such response...even though maybe half was me and my jibber jabber.

I write crossovers mostly, but most contain Gundam Wing. I suppose it may be because my favorite character, Duo Maxwell, matches so well with the supernatural elements in other fandoms. He also happens to be my trademark cosplay since 2005. As for the rest of the characters, they're very multi-layered, which makes them very interesting to write.

First off, you win for the Slayers reference. Xellos = Unlimited amounts of amusement and manipulation. He was my second favorite character in the series. Zelgadis (and his coffee addiction <3) shall forever remain number one.

I haven't seen the series in forever ;__;

I write for fandoms mainly because there is always a particular character I can relate to/adore personality wise in that fandom that I want to write. I was drawn to Naruto, for example, because I thought Sakura, even in the early stages, was an interesting character. I never thought her to be an annoyance, mainly because of Inner Sakura. She made me believe that there was more to Sakura than a childish crush and vanity. I wanted to write her and write the more amusing side of Naruto, which isn't as prominent in the newer mangas now, I don't think. I haven't read the manga in a while, so...

Anyways, I generally like a fandom either a) because a character intrigues me and I want to write them; b) the series itself seems like it would be a great outlet for writing or c) because I'm slightly shallow and find a particular character or pairing attractive, so I want to write about them/it.
