Actually... cartoon - shitae, gihyou, manga, ka-toxu-n, giga http://www.freedict.com/onldict/onldict.phpanime - animation But it's still a French word adopted by the Japanese to define their own toons... Not a native Japanese word.

...
You really need to ask that one?
Cartoons have been around since 1920, at least.
Manga/Anime were first made after the second world war, as a way to keep people's minds off the post-war mess their country was.
And "who cares"? Certainly nobody that wants to look like they know what they're talking about does, I know that for sure. razz

As you yourself said, "who cares?"
I like to research about what I like, and I like to say things as they are. If that's wrong, then let it be wrong.

You like to be well-informed about what you enjoy. Not many people these days actually do research or know how to research for that matter.

RazorZKnight Polarismad91 My comment on all of this ... i prefer manga anyway ... And there you're threading even darker waters. Manga and comics have little to no difference other than the drawing style. A lot of the comic series around are darker than some (most) manga, and some manga are lighter than comics meant for kids. cool Just call me Dr. Iknowadamnlotandwontshutup. Or Raz for shorts. rofl OMG your samrt oh and my opinon is what raz said espially about totally spies

Micky Mouse was first, anime has the prefix anim- in it which means life or life-like, the first anime was an army man soluting and is thought to have been made around WWII but the style was a mixture between american cartoons and ukiyo-e which are the japenese paintings that came about in the edo period(or it was just popular wikipedia isn't being to clear about that...)

I think the term anime is kind of confusing. Just like how Manga means "cartoon" in Japanese but we only use the word for the comics. I tried to start a movement of calling both Manga where I live as in Manga Novel is the comics and Manga is just Japanese cartoons but people I know were kind of stubborn and wouldn't change. That way we wouldn't need debate a TV show like Avatar: The Last Airbender being Anime or not.
