The stern looking boy straightened, pointedly ignoring the other girl. He wasn't here to talk to others, make friends or any of that, he was here to work. He was here so that he wouldn't have to set eyes on dragons again.

His bottom lip trembled, but he managed to catch it between a line of white teeth, drawing in a deep breath. "I am prepared to work harder than ever before Master Emoraan, that I can promise."

There was no hungry dragonet to tend to now...

No dragon to fly with...

He hadn't even heard the girl introduce herself, but her name was of no importance to him. What was the point of filling his brain with useless information? He needed to focus on his craft, now more than ever.

"I have my ways of learning names, my dear. There are places for both of you in my hall. I shall not put you to work today, instead this will be your day to explore the Hall and learn where everything is at. There are four levels to our hall, not including the towers."

Leading them on, not looking back to make sure the two kept pace, the Weaver continued on with his detailed explaination of the Hall. His boots clacked against the stone floor and he pointed to various rooms and people. "The first floor is for storage. Food, clothe, wood...almost anything you can name. You will find the kitchens there as well as the kitchen staff, drudges, and various other workers. None of those who are part of the craft are on the first floor."

"The second floor is for apprentices and their classes. Males room to the left and females to the right; classrooms are in the center of the floor along with some of the smaller looms and sewing rooms."

They had been working slowly around; MasterWeaver Emoraan pointed out where the two would be staying and motioned for his son, Moranis to come over. "This is Moranis. He is considered our runner and doer. If you need to run a message or have something done, contact him."

"The third floor is for Journeymen and their barracks. Once again, males to the left and females to the right. Our dye rooms are up here with the open windows so the fumes to do overpower anyone. When you reach this level, there will be a ceremony along with advanced classes. You will also pick up on some basics of other crafts, like Harpering and Tanning. All crafts can be woven together, if the right thread is used. And you can not have a good piece of clothe or fabric if the seams do not match up. Please do not make me have to explain those analogies."

"The last floor is called the Master's level. Not every master can do every task. At the end of your journeyman years, you will select a speciality to obtain your master in. And you will do a project to be submitted to me. I expect nothing less than the best from all my students and that is how I will judge this project."

Finally turning around to look at his two new apprentices, Emoraan gave them one last long and hard look. The boy would be a hard worker if not one who might be overly dedicated. But he had nothing else to give his life to... "Are there any questions?"

He listened in practised silence, concentrating on the words of his new Master as they walked the premises. The place was huge, or so it seemed, much larger than any other hall he had been to. It was nice enough however, and looked to be well run and organised. He'd porbably learn many new skills here and he knew that this would be the start of a new life.

Guraith had always told him to make the most of his life, spread his wings and show others what he was made of. It was time to do that, and somehow he just knew that this is what his green would have wanted.

He nodded and when Emoraan turned to them he opened his mouth to speak before the other girl could. "Master, I have a runnerbeast outside, is there a place I can keep him, or will he have to be returned?"

Nodding the MasterWeaver headed them back downstairs. They moved into the open courtyard as they headed out of the main hall. Across from the courtyard was a set of stables. The stables could house up to fifty beasts enough for a small gather.

"You may house your runner there. Talk to the stable master, Yoran. Tell him that the MasterWeaver said you are to keep your beast there without paying any marks."

"You both are now free to go about your business. I shall see you both in the apprentice classes tomorow. There is someone to wake you up and who will take you around. After the first day, you are expected to be able handle yourselves from then on out."

((sorry! I'm trying to keep up, school's a bit painful at the moment...))

Taakya followed in step behind the two males throughout the tour, paying marked attention to places that would be the most concern of her's, which was pretty much anywhere. She made a few mental notes of where she wished to more fully explore, being a girl that liked to be informed, especially if this boy wished to compete with her the whole time here.... That might get a tad annoying. Her eyes had adjusted to the dimmer light of the halls, but as they made their way back to the courtyard, she had to blink a few times to cover up the pained tears, her eyes were sensitive. It gave her great assistance in detecting flaws in thread, but she paid for it with strain aches in her head. At the mention of questions the dark haired-head gave a decisive negatory shake. A slight smile peeling across her lips at the extended metaphor he had used, crafters always used their terms in every day speech, which amused Taakya greatly.

At the boy's snappy question a slight roll to Taakya's equally dark eyes was all that was needed to express her opinion, though she masked it by a firm smile, blinking at the over exposure of light. She had walked, she had no beast, and no reason or need for one. She was less trouble to the Hall because of that. At the excusing statement, Taakya gave the master a curtsy, "Thank you sir, it is much appreciated." A genuine smile replaced the waning fake substitute as she made a few cautionary steps back towards the hall, taking the view of the magnificent place in once more.

((It's alright, don't feel the need to rush))

Clemar frowned a little as the girl excused herself before he could reply, then turned to face his new Master once more. He gave a small bow before straightening and taking a step back. "Thankyou Master Emoraan, you've been of great help." There was no smile on his face but the tone in which he spoke was enough to show his gratitude.

His first class? It was sort of exciting, knowing he was going to continue work that he had been meant to do in the first place.

He moved back over to his runner, hushing it sharply as it nodded its head and whinnied in greeting. The stupid thing had better not cause any trouble whilst it stayed here. Shylight had been known to have perhaps a little too much energy, sometimes putting it to bad use, but he had been the best runner to take him here and the one he had become most fond of.

"Hush now, let's get you settled in." He said in a firm voice, drawing the reins over it's head and leading him with a hand held close to the beast's mouth. The sound of its hooves filled the air once more as he led it across the ground towards the stables, the scent of hay fillng his nostrils. It looked a fine place to house Shylight that was for sure.

"H-hello? Stable Master Yoran?" He called out as he reached the row of stables, halting the runner to listen for any reply. Perhaps he wasn't here? Well if that was the case he'd just leave the beast and come back later.

As Taakya took a few more steps towards her new home, her mind set on getting back to her new bed and getting changed out of her travel garments, and she needed to fix a tear in one of her shirts.... But her ears caught snatches of the tone of Clemar's voice towards his runner beast, a bit of anger betraying itself as her eyes darkened, though there were none to see. Anyone sharp with an innocent beast found disfavor in the girl's eyes. Though it didn't surprise her, he didn't seem very kind to begin with, it just reaffirmed her suspicions that his heart was cold, to humans as well as creatures.... It had always been Taakya's belief that runnerbeasts could be trained much more kindly with care, not harsh dicsciplines. Some called her naive, but she wasn't the one that had always been thrown....

With a huff to throw off those thoughts, she stepped back into the hall, glancing back at Master Emoraan to make sure he had no other need to speak with her, or other restrictions for her to memorize, she continued into the cool halls, memory guiding her feet as she retraced where they had walked during the tour. She made her way to the second floor, finding the place where he had placed her new living space to be. Breathing in a deep breath she crossed to the bed, laying her bag happily onto the bed, her nimble fingers massaging at the knotted muscles in her shoulders. Opening the pack revealed clean garments, dust free thanks to the leathery protection, ready and waiting to be changed into....

((do they have their own rooms or is it like the barracks where they stay with a bunch of other people?))
PostPosted: Wed Dec 14, 2005 10:09 am

((I never really thought about it. *ponders the thought now* I guess since the Hall is fairly large, the apprentices would have barracks... Though for RPs sake, there can be a few small open bedrooms to claim. But they are going fast! wink ))

The stable master was a short, stout man who had spent his entire life around runners and other beasts. He hair was a faded brown that was cut short to his head with eyes that seemed even more faded when around humans. But when near his beasts, that was another story. They twinkled ever so slightly.

He had a club foot and tended to drag on slowly. Slow was the best way to handle any creature, be it man, dragon or four-footed creature. Yoran looked up with the calling of his name.

"How can I help ye, boy?" Yoran called out in a gruff voice.

((Huzzah for random NPCs))

A journeyman came knocked before entering the room of Taakya. They had been fortunate to have small bedrooms open for the apprentices. Normally, they were a little overcrowed and had to set everyone up barrack style.

"Welcome to the WeaverHall of Rias. I am sure you will enjoy yourself here. Master Emoraan is a stern but fair master. As for your needs, let any one know what they are and if they are reasonable...it shall be done. The next meal will be served in a couple of sunmarks. Everyone is expected to be there."

Taakya looked up quickly from her bed, her eyes searching for the producer of the sound. When the journeyman entered her vision she smiled kindly. "Thank you sir." She nodded courteously, taking in the quickly provided information. Her stomach growled a bit at the thought of food, realizing she had spent so much time walking and touring that she had forgotten mid-day meal! Well, that's what her last provisions could be used for, and then she would eat the main meal with the rest of the hall. Everyone seemed so ingratiating here, willing to provide for her every need. Halls were so different than Holds, in a very good way.

"I'll make sure of it, thank you very much! Do you know where I can wash my clothing?" She held up the dusty pieces which she had folded next to her. She was used to taking care of herself, she just needed to know where was appropriate.

"Wash your clothing?" The journeyman laughed. He looked at her and realized she was serious. Shaking his head, he pointed at a funny looking hole in the wall.

"That is where you toss your clothes in. All the groups have their own bins, males and females...apprentices, journeyman, and masters. Though the higher ups have their own peronal to do their clothes."

Turning away, he gave a slight wave. "See you in the dining hall."

It took Taakya a moment to realize he was serious that she just had to throw them in a hole in the wall. Before she could protest to such an easy job he was heading out the door with a backwards wave. She waved in return, mumbling a farewell as she continued to sit on her bed in slight awe at the new life in front of her. In a daze she picked up her dusty clothing and tossed it in the wall, trying to see where it went but failing in the darkness.... She shook her head in amazement, sitting back down on the comfortable bed, bouncing a little to test it's solidity. Quite comfortable really..... Opening her pack to reveal the last of her trail rations she took out a few edible seeds, munching contentedly as she continued to gaze around her new home.

She grabbed the sack of rations, dry though they were, she thought they were delicious, and set off to explore the hall a bit more. She paced around the female apprentice dorms, wondering if she would come upon any others, but not seeing anyone. She made her way down to the first floor, looking in on the storage rooms, amazing herself at the amounts of food and supplies at times. She made sure to find the dining hall again, just so she had it in her memory when the appropriate time came....

"You are the Stable Master?" Clemar questioned. He didn't wait for a reply however, it had been a stupid thing to ask in the first place. He had called for Yoran and here was this man before him. "I was told by Master Emoraan to bring my runner here to stay for free. I'm a new apprentice here at the hall."

The beast beside him shifted, the popping of joints heard as he raised one leg to stamp a hoof upon the ground. It seemed the runner was still full of energy - as always. It snorted through its nostrils and stretched its neck out to get a better look at this new person.

"He can be a bit of a handful at times." Clemar apologised in advance.

"Boy, I have been handling beasts since before ye were born. All he needs is a good talking to and something ter do and he will be all right."

Yoran walked up slowly to the runner not that he had much of a choice. He held out a hand to be sniffed and waited. The spirited animal huffed at him and then nibbled gently at his palm. The Stable Master took the reins from Clemar without word and began to walk the runner away. Placing him in an empty space, Yoran looked over Clemar and then jerked his head at the occupied hole.

"I may be the Stable master here and we have workers to take care of yer beastie. But I expect to see you here everyday for his cleanings and feedings. I will speak to Master Emoraan and we will set up a schedule."

Clemar couldn't hide the surprise from his face as Shylight seemed to accept the man without so much as a bad look. Is that what it took to be a Master of beasts? He felt his respect for Yoran grow a little as he realised just how difficult Shylight was for himself. Seemed the runner had found himself a friend.

"Of course Sir, I'd be more than glad to assist you with his care, it is the least I can do to repay you for your generosity." He gave a small inclination of his head and took note of the where the runner was being kept.

It seemed he would be very busy at the hall, just what he had expected.

He took a few steps back and gave Yoran a small nod, "I'll be back later, for now I think I'll familiarise myself with the hall. It seems to be a large and busy place."

MasterWeaver Emoraan was waiting for a messege by runner. Master Runner Byrand told him he was sending the best; his very own daughter. He had heard tales of Kallista and her determination to deliver her message. A pretty child, a shame about her mother really.

Emoraan sighed. This month would be a busy one with new apprentices and many of the journeyman working on jackets for the dragonriders. He knew that Ariath was rising and anxiously awaited word of who flew the golden queen.

Somehow, he had the feeling that only a few would appreciate his efforts.

Gathering his scrolls, the Master of the Weaver Hall went about settling disbutes and debts owed by his hall.
