"What good news?" Nataya asked, bouncing in her seat as she grinned up at the two adults. She wasn't sure what this whole 'family meeting' thing was about or why they were having one, but Mommy had said there was good news! Good news made people happy, and when Mommy was happy, so was Nataya. An overall good situation, right?
Matthias looked at Stasia wearily; it had been over a century since he'd been drawn into a 'family meeting', and that was when she had agreed to take care of some fish brat/tyrant. Unpleasant memories aside, he was rather curious to see just what this meeting was about. If his little halfling had called for it, it had to be interesting.
Stasia, ignoring the suspicious look from Matthias, smiled at her little girl. "Well...." she paused, putting a finger to her lips as if trying to remember. Nataya, not falling for the ruse, grinned. "What?" she asked, bouncing a bit. The 'teen' smiled before continuing. "I've gotten a job at "The Peaceful Kitchen". One of my old friends owns the resturaunt and said I could work there during the day. That means you can go to day care and play with the other children more instead of being stuck here most of the time."
Matthias snickered, trying not to laugh out loud. Her? A job? Surely it was a jest.....but no, she seemed serious enough. She'd never had a real job before....he'd definately have to go see this. He smirked, leaning back in his seat as he began picturing her first day on the job, supressing chuckles the best he could.
Nataya's face went blank for a moment. She then began sniffling, her hands covering her eyes as she started crying.
Stasia blinked, standing up to move around the table. She kneeled next to her daughter's chair, petting the girl's hair gently (and showing that she had no clue how to deal with crying people). "Nattie, what's wrong?" she asked, looking at the little one.
"Nat-yah.....Nat-yah don't want Mommy work! Want stay with Mommy! No daycare, home!" she cried. "Not good news!" She thought that "Mommy" having a job meant she'd have to go live at the Liberty Center.
"Oh honey.....don't cry....It'll only be for a few hours a day, I promise. And on the weekends, Mommy'll stay home with you and play, okay?" A rather worried halfling said, picking the girl up and sitting in the chair, cradling the toddler in her lap. Oh, this was definately going to play with her conscience later....
Family meeting number one: a disaster.

It had been happening alot lately. It wasn't anything big as far as Stasia was concerned; her daughter had been taking more naps than usual. She just figured that her little girl was just getting close to a growth spurt or something; nothing to worry about at all. Well, she thought that until she saw the child 'take a nap'.
They had been out in the backyard. Stasia was harvesting some mushrooms while Nataya chased Circe around the yard, the 'dustbunnies' bouncing after the girl. Stasia stood up, holding her basket as she watched the chase, a smile crossing her face a she let out a chuckle. Her smile instantly faded out as she saw her little one suddenly collapse to the ground motionless. Dropping her basket, she ran over and dropped to her knees, drawing the girl into her lap. "Nataya, Nataya wake up!" she said quickly, giving the girl a little shake.
The girl stirred after a moment, her magenta colored eyes opening to look up at her mother. "Mommy, what wrong?" she asked, not used to seeing such a...scared expression on her mother's face. She became even more confused when her mother squeezed her in a hug.
"Honey, honey what happened there? You scared me there...you just fell out of no where...are you okay, Nattie?" she responded as she pulled back to look at her child. There didn't seem to be any signs of injury or ailment that she could see.
Nataya blinked. "Nap." she said simply. After all, that's what short sleeping periods were. "Nat-yah okay...." She looked up at her mother, whose worried expression was still confusing her.
Stasia stood up, heading towards the house. She was getting her daughter medical attention pronto.
-------------------------------
Nataya was scared. Mommy had been acting funny, and now she was handing her over to a man in a white coat here in this large, colorless building. "Mommy....." she murmered, looking at her mother as the man held her carefully.
"Honey, it's alright....we're going to see and make sure that everything is alright, okay?" She said, following the doctor as they went through the halls. Sure, she'd been told this wasn't 'proper procedure', but there was no way she was leaving her Nattie alone here. She stayed by her girl's side through all the tests and scans, calmly explaining what was going on to keep the toddler calm. After all was said and done, the mother and daughter sat together, waiting to hear the diagnosis. When they got it, Stasia shot the doctor a look.
"What do you mean you have no idea what's wrong?" She narrowed her eyes. There was no way that after all these tests, they couldn't tell her why her daughter collapsed.
"Well, ma'am, I didn't say that. What I said was we can't find anything wrong...." the doctor said calmly, looking at his clipboard. "Nothing on the CAT scans or MRI's, no blood pressure problems.....nothing. But, judging by the symptoms, we think she has narcolepsy. We can perscribe some medications...."
"You are not putting my child on meds." Stasia said calmly, her tone signalling the end of that conversation. Narcolepsy? Narcolepsy her a**! The only 'symptom' of that her daughter had shown was the sudden uncontrollably sleep. No drowsiness or anything like that. But, they hadn't found anything else wrong, which put her mind to some ease. After a few brief 'persuading' words with the doctor, they were on their way home.... She'd call it narcolepsy for now....until she found out what was really going on with her little girl.

Nataya had been up in her room, taking one of her 'naps'. They weren't too frequent; just one or two every two or so weeks; longer if she was lucky. Today, she'd fallen asleep while looking through a picture book. She woke up to a heavy feeling on her back and hair in her face....more than she was used to. The child sat up, noticing her once-loose dress was feeling rather snug. She rubbed her eyes; the picture book looked smaller and her hair seemed longer. She looked back, finding that her wings had grown as well. In fact, all of her had grown! She stood up, wobbling a bit as she tried to get used to a new, taller body. She made her way out of her room, down the hallway and stairs, and to the living room where her mother was reading a rather antique-looking book. "Momma...." she said softly, feeling bad about interrupting her mother's reading.
"Yes, Nat-" Stasia started as she began to respond, stopping mid-sentence. Was that....was that her baby girl?
"Momma....this one is bigger...." Nataya said, blinking as she noticed the surprised look on the adult's face. "Is Nataya supposed to be bigger?"
Anastasia nodded slowly, smiling a little. "Yeah, it just means you've grown. I just didn't expect you to grow up so soon." After all, it seemed like just yesterday her little girl had been 'born' on the coffee table. She then stood up. "C'mon...you can wear some of my clothes while we go out to get you some new ones. And you can even pick them out yourself."
Nataya grinned, hugging her parental and murmering a quick 'thank you'. New clothes? To her, any gift was a big deal, but clothes that she gets to pick out? She couldn't have been happier.

Family Meeting, Take Two "Momma, I'm home!" Nataya said, stepping into the living room. She heard her mother's response, "We're in here!", come from the kitchen. Dropping her backpack on the floor near the door, she walked in, seeing her mother and 'uncle' sitting at the table. "Nattie, honey, take a seat." Stasia said, smiling and waving to the chair between her and Matthias. Nataya blinked; Momma was acting a bit wierd. None the less, she sat down. "What is it, Momma?" she asked, looking at her. Stasia took a deep breath before answering. "Well....I've been selected to take care of a child....a special little girl who needs someone to love and care for her." she said, gauging her little sugar plum's reaction. "Nataya, you're a big sister now. We've adopted a little girl from a local laboratory." Nataya blinked, then smiled. "Really?" she asked, her tone showing her excitement. "What's her name? How old is she? What does she look like? When do I get to meet her?" Stasia grinned; that was the reaction she'd been hoping for. "Well, her name is Azubahiel, but I think we'll call her 'Zuba for short. She's about four or five years old, and you can see what she looks like for yourself; she's in her room upstairs." She chuckled as the girl made a dash for the stairs. "Do you think it was wise to adopt another child?" Matthias asked once the little one had left the room, his face serious. "Motherhood isn't a game, Anastasia...." The halfling closed her eyes, smiling. "I know that, 'Thias...I never acted as if it were. And do I think it's wise? Of course I do." She opened one eye half-way, looking at the somber fae. "I can care for the child, and I already love her as if she were my own flesh and blood." "But will that be enough?" --------- Upstairs, Nataya was at the door to what had been a spare room. She grinned, opening the door. Two yellow green eyes gazed at her, the one slitted pupil becoming thinner. The little toddler backed away, a bit scared of the new person. Nataya smiled. "Hey now, it's okay. I won't hurt you." she said softly, grinning at the little girl. "I'm Nataya, your new sister." Wary, 'Zuba inched closer. "Na-yah?" she murmered, looking up at the tall person with big wings who was now nodding. She then saw the beads in her hair. "Want." she said, pointing. Nataya blinked, taking a moment to figure out what her new sister wanted. "Oh, this?" she asked as she held up the end of her ponytail. "Want." The fairy smiled, pulling the bead off and handing it to the child. "Here!" she said, grinning and stepping back. 'Zuba looked at it a moment, inspecting it. Then, in an act of true sisterly love, threw it and hit her new sister square between the eyes, giggling mischieviously afterwards. The start of a wonderful relationship, of course.
