Joshua was excited. His mother had planned a christmas tree decorating party. Joshua had never had one of those before, but he knew this. It meant he got candy canes, and popcorn! Though he wasn't actually supposed to eat them.
Ben had left for the day, making up an excuse. He'd told Thali he was going Christmas shopping. But his wife knew him better than that, he just didn't want to be around with so many people. Thali knew exactly where Joshua got his shyness from. Oh well, she had invited Joshua's friends Ginger, Zemel, and Nataya, and their mother, as well as Lucien and Grace. Joshua had insisted on inviting Carlisile, though the boy had never met him, except for at the light show. If you could call that meeting.

A black SUV parked stopped infront of the house. Stasia was the first one to get out. "Thanks for the ride, Matthias." she said, winking to the dark-clad man sitting in the driver's seat.
The kids piled out of the vehicle. Nataya was wearing a long, three-tier plum purple dress with a matching embroidered peasant top, a paper bag grasped in her hand. She flittled up the the door before the others, knocking on the door.
Ginger and Zemel looked positively adorable in their matching denim-overalls and red & green striped sweaters. Ginger ran after Nataya, grinning as they beat Mommy and Zemel to the door. She knocked after her sister did, making sure that the knock had been heard.
Zemel waited for Mommy, walking along with her as they headed towards his sisters. He took his mother's hand, lightly holding on to it as they stopped behind his sisters. Not wanting to be left out, he reached out, knocking on the door again.

Joshua hurried to the door before his Mommy could and knocked back. He giggled as Thali walked over to him and opened the door.
"Glad you could make it!" She said smiling, "He's excited." She added, gesturing to Josh. He grabbed Ginger and Zemel by the hands and pulled them inside.
"Come on! We decorate tree!" He pointed at the six foot tall pine tree. "But Mommy says no eating popcorn." He pointed at several large bowls of the stuff, "Mommy says we're going to 'ring it. Then we play after making tree pretty!"

Stasia grinned over the kids at the adult. "Glad to be here. We wouldn't have missed it for anything." she said, smiling slightly. "The kids couldn't wait to come."
Ginger grinned, following Josh into the house. "Dec'rate!" she said, giggling. She would have clapped her hands together, but Josh was currently holding one of them. "Why can't we eat popcorn?" she asked, confused. Wasn't popcorn for eating?
Zemel smiled. Decorating the tree sounded like fun. "We eat popcorn and I help Mommies make more?" he suggested, finding what he believed to be the solution. He nodded once, chuckling.
Nataya held the bag out to Thali, smiling. "I brought some cookies for everyone to munch on." she said cheerfully. "I hope that's okay, Mrs. Sadril." After all, she'd feel so bad if Josh wasn't allowed to eat cookies or something.

Josh nodded, Zemel's idea sounded good. "We eat popcorn!" He agreed, "Then make more!" He took a handful and started munching. He dropped half of it onto the floor without noticing.
"Oh that's fine," Thali said smiling, "We can have those after the movie." She lead the two to the living room. She caught sight of Joshua and the twins eating pop-corn and couldn't help giggling. "I knew you were up to something, it was too quiet." She started putting candy canes on the tree, before handing Stasia and the kids each one. She took one for herself.

Ginger grinned, grabbing a bigger handful of popcorn and started eating it. After all, if she ate more than him, she won! Atleast, in her mind she did, anyways. "Popcorn nummy!" she said, grinning brightly at Josh. She looked at the candy-cane as it was handed to her, looking confused. "What this?" she asked, looking up to the adults.
Zemel took a few pieces, popping them into his mouth. He chewed a few times, then grinned. "Yummy." he agreed, reaching for more. He stopped as soon as he heard the adults, smiling innocently. That always got Ginger out of trouble, so he figured he'd try it. He looked at the candycane, silently inspecting it as he listened for the adult's response.
Natay smiled, nodding. "Alright." she said, following Thali and her mother to the living room. She couldn't help but giggle at Zemel's attempt at an innocent face; he looked so adorable! She looked at the candycane, vaguely remembering them from her baby months. "It's candy, right?" she asked, looking to her momma.
"Yes, it's candy," Stasia said, smiling. "We aren't eating it now, though. We're putting it on the tree," she said, demonstrating for the kids. "We can eat the candycanes after Christmas, though."

Tap tap tap.
Lucien stood eagerly by the door, leaning backwards on his heels as Grace gradually approached from behind. As the two were running "fashionably" late, Lucien had taken to asking are we there yet? every moment he spotted a potentially "Joshy" home until Grace had finally sighed a very weary yes, Lucien, we're here, to which the child broke into a sprint to knock excitedly at the door. Lucien glanced up at Grace, smiling expectantly and holding out his hands to which she placed a small, stuffed Giraffe, laughing as he let out a breath he didn't realize his was holding.
"You didn't think I'd forget Charlie, did ya?" she smiled, running a hand through his hair and turning to face the door.

Carlisle tripped on his way up the front walk.
Not like he went sprawling or anything. He just sort of got one foot stuck under the other and, well, stuff had happened. And no, he thought, he had not dropped the present. Still he was bright red from both the cold and embarrassment when he joined Grace and Lucien on the front steps. "Hello," he mumbled, clutching the cardboard box in between his mittened fingers. "Happy holidays, ma'am."

Once she thought about it, eating the candy canes seemed like a much better idea. She carefully unwrapped it and put the end into her mouth. Thali grinned, and gave the kids another one. "These you can eat," she told them.
But Joshua was hurrying to the door, with candy cane in hand. "Luc!" He cried happily, pulling the dark haired boy inside. "Come on, come on! We eat candy canes!"
He paused for a moment, and spotted Carlise and his Mommy. "Hi," He said shyly. "Come on! We're decorating!"

"Hello," said Carlisle formally, glancing over his shoulder at the still-silent Sugita. "Happy holidays, Joshua." He followed the two younger kids inside and tucked the box under one arm, careful to keep it horizontal and level. The pie inside would not take kindly to being tossed about.
Sugita adjusted her glasses. "Since you're at the right place, I'm going," she told the dark-haired boy.

Thali walked over to Carlisle and took the box from him. "Pie?" She guessed smiling. "I'll put it in the kitchen." She said. "You can join the kids in making popcorn strings if you want." She added. She looked over his shoulder at Sugita, "If you want to stay, you're more than well come," She said smiling.
Joshua led his friends to the living room. "Come on," He told Lucien, "Mommy said if there's popcorn left, we'll make popcorn balls!"

Nataya looked up, smiling at the new arrivals. "Hello." she greeted, waving slightly before she went back to stringing the popcorn together with the needle and thread. Her candycane was laying on the coffee table; she could eat it after she was done.
Ginger grinned, her hand a blur as she waved enthusiastically. "Hi!" she said, giggling before she went back to munching on the candy-cane, crunching it between her teeth. She'd finish hers first!
Zemel looked up from his task of placing candycanes on the tree, smiling slightly. "Hullo." he said, putting the box of candycanes back on the coffee table.
"'Lo, kiddlets." Stasia greeted, smiling and offering a small wave. She sat in one of the empty chairs, enjoying her candycane.

Lucien smiled broadly at Carlisle before he was dragged roughly through the door. Grace followed closely behind, careful to avoid standing on small children and stray pieces of half-eaten popcorn. Lucien, who wore an expression that greatly resembled a child who had just walked into Disneyland, cooed happily at the array of christmas decorations and sweets.
"Hello," he replied happily, watching the mixture of popcorn threading and candycane eating excitedly.

Joshua took Lucien to the popcorn. "We're stringing it!" He said happily. "Mommy says no eating, but we eat anyways!" He showed his bravery by taking a handful. "It's yummy. We save some for the movie though!" He added, smiling.

Lucien reached forward and grabbed a small handful of popcorn, cupping them in his hands (but not before placing Charlie safely on the ground). He raised a piece tentively to his mouth, pushing it through with an air of uncertainty -- however as soon as the popped corn kernel touched his tongue he grinned deliriously. He suddenly began shoving each piece carelessly into his mouth, completely forgetting that he had to swallow them in order to continue eating them.
"It tastes so good," he mumbled between mouthfuls, his cheeks beginning to puff with every added piece, "I'f nefer had 'corn before!". He continued to munch happily away at the popcorn, leaning backwards into a sitting posistion and crossing his legs.
