So it is an X with a line cutting it in half? Is it better for the extra line to be vertical, horizontal, or doesn't matter?

It is so much harder to understand pictures when all you can see is text. Which is why I am trying to make sure the image in my head is proper.

Like gorramKayna said. An asterisk. Look at the asterisk on you keyboard. It's on the same key as the 8. There should be no horisontal lines in it anywhere. Like most Futhark Runes (but not all), you start with a strong vertical stave. The two lines intersecting it are both angled

i got the correct image in my head, but felt the need to comment anyway.........the asterisk on my keyboard has only 5 points.

Yes, but if you draw an asterisk on a piece of paper than it will have six.
