Poppins startled a laugh from Laures, as he was completely unprepared for her silly imitation, and his smile became just a touch more real and sincere.
"Nope. I'm afraid I'm just a plain flutter. There's no magic in me." He turned his gaze from the surroundings to focus on the mare in front of him. "This place seems to call those who need peace, or beauty to soothe their souls. Perhaps you would have found this place on you own. After all, it seems like you need the peace just as much as I did the first time I came here."

Poppins chuckled and then sigh "oh perhaps... " she stayed silent for a time... not sure what she should say... "why did you need it, when you found it?"

Laures looked around for a moment and breathed in deeply. He would answer, but first he needed to center himself and get the depressing feelings that had welled up back under control, back in the depths of his mind where they wouldn't bother him any more.
The grasses tickled his legs as a gentle breeze blew. Feeling in control of his emotions he turned his grass-green eyes towards the mare and answered.
"I was in a very bad place emotionally. Wounded badly, fearing I'd lose the sky, feeling worthless and such. I was nearly ready to look for a skinwalker or kalona to put me out of my misery when my hooves led me here. The peace here... it is meant to heal bruised and wounded souls. I guess I owe my life to this place in a way."
Revealing this was a risk, but one he felt he needed to take. It was good for him to finally get that off his chest, and by being so open and honest, perhaps he could encourage her to open up some and begin to heal.

Poppins smiled "I understand... loosing the very thing that makes one.. feel free. It can be very tramatic." she smiled weakly before taking another bite of grass "so... your able to ... fly now i take it" she asked tentativly... examining his face for the answer..

Laures smiled brightly. "My wings have not yet returned to their full strength, so no, I'm not currently able to fly. But I have hope. And one day soon, I will be able to take to the skies once more."
He felt more at peace here in the meadow than anywhere else, it must have been part of the magic of the place, and it lifted his spirits, allowing him to maintain his happy nature.
"And that is the most important thing. If one has hope, they are able to overcome almost anything. Even trauma will fade away in the face of real hope."

Poppins looked concerned as she lifted her head "and tell me... where would one find this... hope... that you speak of? My heart feels dark... and.. even with you... i feel... alone... and almost ashamed"
she blushed.. and stared directly at Laures... "You will one day be able to fly, and be free... I don't know if i will ever be that way again"

Though it was very difficult for Laures to allow anyone into his personal space, and even moreso for him to take the initiative and move close to another, to breach their space, Laures couldn't help but move closer to the rather broken mare. Carefully he draped a wing across her side, a very rare gesture of comfort, and nuzzled her neck.
"Hope is something we must find within ourselves, but if one is hurting badly enough, they can find it in the faith of others." He took a deep breath."You have no reason to be alone... or ashamed here. If you cannot find such hope in yourself right now, perhaps..."
His voice drifted off and he felt like perhaps he was being over bold to make the suggestion, but he couldn't bear to see anyone upset and not try to do something about it. "Perhaps I might help you find it."

Poppins blushed as she looked at Laures " I could not ask you to give up anything for me... anymore then I could tell the sun to stop shining or... the Moon to no longer rise. " she looked him in the eye again... "Peace, is something... that.. in a way... Frightens me... I don't want to fall in love anymore Laures. I convinced myself.. that the last one... was everything... that... he in fact, wasn't"

Laures brushed his wing against her side again. "Is peace the same as love? If so, then I've never really known peace." He found the entire idea foreign and hard to grasp. And really how could anyone give up on love?
He backed away just a step, starting to feel uncomfortable being within such proximity to another, even if it was for a good reason. "And it really wouldn't be me "giving up" anything. I have no ties, no commitments right now, and it would be harder for me to leave you like this. I hate to see anyone suffer."

Poppins Smiled softly "I will be fine... someday... just don't think love is all that the bards say it is." she snorted " infact... there are alot of things... bards indulge on a bit"

"One day you'll truly smile again and laugh. The pain from this heartache may never truly pass, or heal, but it will fade and become a distant memory in time."
Laures did understand her bitterness, and for the most part, he agreed with her about bards... taking artistic license with certain ideas... but he was himself a bard, even if he didn't often get the chance to live up to his calling. "Not all bards exaggerate, and there is enough truth in their tales. But now doesn't seem to be the best time for such a debate."
He had been hurt before, but never broken as Poppins seemed to be. He was still an eternal optimist, and he believed that love was still a miraculous thing. "Your heart may scar, but it shows that though you may have been hurt or broken someone cared enough to help pick up the pieces and help put you back together."

Poppins nodded and sighed "perhaps your right Laures, there is truth in all tales... else how would they get the ideas they do... as fantastic as some might be " she smiled... "so tell me Laures, to get my mind off my Acheing heart.... what is your Trade?" she was hoping she was not being intrusive... but... dwelling on herself, seemed to .. .hurt more...

Laures considered carefully how to answer. The son of a bard and a rogue, he combined the best qualities of both his parents, even though he hated the fact. He was trained to follow in the footsteps of both when the situation called for it. He could recite the stories and fables of several herds, he sang ballads and love songs and songs to inspire. But his favorite was being a storyteller. Of having an audience of enraptured foals and curious adults. Of getting caught up in the adventures and lives of others.
"I guess you could call me a gypsy." He shrugged. " wander from place to place telling stories, singing songs and gathering knowledge and local lore."
Then a rather funny, if occasionally embaressing memory worked its way to the fore of his mind. "At times I serve as entertainment for foals. Curious little things that they are, how many don't enjoy the chance to chase a 'butterfly' under the watchful eyes of their guardians?"

Poppins Nodded and chuckled knowingly... " I used to watch little ones in my old herd" she frowned for a moment then pushed that memory to the background " There were no 'gypsies' as handsome of yourself... and usually they were run out. No place for that Rougeish kind. Most we met were Thieves, and con artists." she cut her self short "I'm sorry I did not mean to speak ill.. " she crossed herself in her mind. He finally started to open up to her... and she reacts so rudely " you seem more of a Minstrel then a Gypsy"

Laures laughed slightly at her interpretation. If that is what she believed gypsies to be... his father would have been. He snorted at the thought. There was just no way.
"It is alright. A common misconception really." Laures fluttered his wings slightly, needing to feel the breeze. " Those you think of as gypsies are truly nothing more than, as you said, cons and rogues. Real gypsies... well, for one thing, we are family oriented and love to travel. We do perform services and entertain for fair compensation. Gypsies also have very rich history and a culture all our own."
He considered somewhat. "well, I guess minstrel is another possibilty for me, as I really am not capable of much beyond telling stories and singing, but neither of those labels need to be exclusive do they?"
