Akai_ryu D, Japan still is a pretty xenophobic society. But you know me. I really shouldn't join another RP, but I'd bite. lol yes I am aware of this. But it was far worse back in the ol' days razz

I have an idea for a fantasy type game too. Well, semi fantasy. But I should probably let the new one get a chance to roll before I put any competition out there.

So... I gots me an idea. A RP idea. A YURI RP idea! Just gonna toss out the idea and see what people think.
Im thinking a sort of half serious, half parody type roleplay based on the whole magical schoolgirl genre of anime/manga. The point would be to have a base serious plot, some serious characters... then just tear the hell out of it and make fun of it as we go along. Would be 1/3 action, 1/3 comedy, and 1/3 yuri.
Still kinda tossing the idea in me head. Just wanted to know what other people think.

Metal! Now I kind of wanted to make sure there was some system to keep from one character being too powerful, even though it would only be players vs NPCs. So I've been thinking up a system of rules based on dice rolls to keep things interesting.

I've noticed that dice rolls tend to keep people from being overpowered, so dice systems are the best.

Excellent. I was also debating making a class system, to help give people basic stats and abilities. Problem with this, though, is it does hinder customization a bit. So I'd like lots of feedback on this idea.

D's got a point.
GURPS does let you do pretty much anything and there's even a good portion of it documented online for free. Like the Advantages/Disadvantages system. You could probably pare it down to mostly character building, but you may want to consider how long combat tends to take IRL. Particularly with people who are unfamiliar with the system or those used to a different system. And with Gaia's dice system only allowing certain dice combos. No d20+x and 4d6+y for dx rounds, you know?
The White Wolf systems are pretty diceless, but not really geared toward magical girls even with Mage and Hunter. D20 Modern's an option, buuttt....same problem as GURPS. BESM might be the best choice for magical girls as a pre-set class since it is intended for dice anime gaming. It should even have open-source gaming stuff up somewhere. -shrug- I've also seen a kung-fu-kill-'em-all variant and a fun swashbuckling one where movement is counted by vertical movement instead of horizontal.

Dice-based games are just hard to run on a message board system. But it could be awesome to see what you come up with.

Point-buy system for creation and ignore the rest of the dice stuff? I sometimes use that to create characters when I'm a bit stumped or want to expand them some.

Well, I'll look into other systems, but I have done a little work on a few things. Here's what I got so far.
I did think of at first just giving them a few base attacks, where all I determined is the damage it does, and some MP consumption. Here's what I thought up so far.
the base dice for most things would be a d20 (since I'm used to d20 games like Dungeons & Dragons) Everybody has four stats that they can distribute 15 points among. They can go as low as -1 in any one stat to gain an extra point. 0 is the same as the average person. The stats are... Strenght Vitality Dexterity Willpower
As for the attacks, what I have in mind is Warrior type: Weapon; (damages) No mana cost. d6 damage + str Arching Energy Strike; (dmages) 3 mana cost. d10+str
Archer type: Weapon; no mana cost. (damages)d4 damage + dex multi-shot; 3 mana cost. (damages)3d4+(dex x 3)
mage type: weapon; no mana cost. (damages) d4+str Energy shot; 1 mana cost. (damages) d6+will Element Bolt; 5 mana cost. (damages) d10+will
Healer type: weapon; no mana cost. (damages) d4+str light cure; 2 mana cost. (restores) d6+will light smite; 3 mana cost. (damages) d6+will
And some base stats for each player...
Warrior: HP- 10+vit MP- 3+will AC- 10+dex Archer: HP- 6+vit MP- 5+will AC- 10+dex Mage: HP- 4+vit MP- 8+will AC- 10+dex Healer: HP- 8+vit MP- 7+will AC- 10+dex
Although I'm still kind of iffy about the whole attacks thing, as it would be better to allow the player to decide the details of their own abilities.

So, been thinking some more for the magical schoolgirl RP... and, well, I'm kind of at a loss for one more thing. A trivial matter, but it could also be the focul point of some humor for the RP, and I know some people will be curious about it. What will the magic schoolgirl costume look like?
So, I was wondering, is anybody here an artist, or know someone who is, that could cook us up a quick design?

Well, then, I guess I can go with a new plan; everyone can design their own costumes. Excellent!
