"Little hoofprints huh?" He smiled.
"My mother was reportedly very surprised when i stood up on my own four legs, as Mers only have two and a very large tail." He coughed politely.
"That's assuming you've never seen one?"

He glanced up at the sun dappled trees that provided excellent shade to cool the great pool of water he was heading towards.
"Rain is nice, it's a good rinse when I get landside and have to wash the salt off of my scales. It crusts up otherwise, terrible difficult to shake off."
He chuckled.
"I imagine so, i've seen many tropical birds look like colorful piles of bedraggled leaves after a storm. I always hope they find someplace safe and dry, poor things just arent meant for the water."

He continued on the path until the ground turned to a softlight colored sand and motioned to with a nod of his head to a large blue green expanse of water nestled in a circle of trees.
"Here we are"

She nodded;
"Hmm..I'm sure my mother will be thrilled to be a grandmother. Whenever it happens anyway." she said and then nodded.

"That's right, I've never seen a Mer type before."
Elisheva filed away the description for whenever she get a chance to meet one, then at least she would not be too surprised, or taken aback by a Soquili with only two legs.

"Well, I imagine they are more resilient than they look. Rain is an inconvenience, but certainly not anything more than that." she fell quiet as he indicated that they had arrived at their destination.

"Goodness.." she said, taking in the scenery as her hooves sunk slightly in the shifting sand.

"It's beautiful." she turned to him, her face lit up with the joy she felt at seeing such a pretty place.
"Thank you for bringing me here Barinthus."

He smiled at her reaction, this was his little secret getaway from all the madness that usually plagued him at home, here he could relax some and really enjoy himself for a spell.
"Oh, no problem Elisheva~I'm glad you like it."
He motioned to the surrounding trees.
"Sometimes those are laden with some sweet fruits, it makes it even more worthwhile to come here on my time off."

He stepped hoof into the cool waters, peering over his shoulder at her, his fins completely fanned out.
"If it's a swimming demonstration you want, I'm definitely the sort for that."
He then turned and slipped into the water as if they had become one, the very tips of his fins sliced through the water with ease as he used his great tail to propel himself through the expanse of the lake.

"How could anyone not like it?" Elisheva said, flicking a stray strand of hair from her face as a slight breeze caught hold of her mane. She followed him to the water's edge, getting used to the strange sensation of walking on the sand, noting that it turned into an easier surface to walk on as it became damper by the water, and her ears flicking at the new sound it made underhoof.

"It's a lovely place. Peaceful." she nodded at him, watching him walk confidently into the water, and she stepped in a short way herself, stopping when the water was lapping just over her fetlocks, looking on as he..well, showed off for her, though she had asked to see him.

"Fishie!" she called after him, teasingly, but she was impressed, he certainly had a powerful grace in the water.

He swam in circles and figure eights and hearing her tease him from the surface he poked his head from the water, his headfins wiggling comically, exhaling a cloud of mist from his nostrils.
"I'm most certainly not a "fishie" !"

He laughed , swishing his tail behind him and making a great splash as he went under again. Down in the quiet depths of the lake he spooked a few fish, their silver scales glinting in the pools of sunlight. He dove down to the very bottom, finding a particualrly smooth and shiny piece from his collection of moonstones, taking it up in his mouth and swimming back to the shore where she waited.
"MMph."
He dropped the prize at her feet and stood a few feet from her on a sunny slab of rock, beads of water glistening on his scales like jewels.

"I tend to collect those, they're called moonstones, my people think they bring good luck and fair weather. Perhaps you would accept that one?" He smiled charmingly.

Elisheva tried to look serious as she nodded and said;
"No, no you're right, you're not a fishie at all." but she was smiling the whole time, until he dove back down again and then she called after him;
"Hey! Got me then.." she shook herself, flicking now wet pieces of mane from her face and shaking her wings out a bit as she retreated out of the water and back onto the sand. She wasn't really too annoyed though, it was amusing to watch Barinthus, he seemed so at ease..and so playful, she wondered how often he got to do things like this with all his duties.

"For me?" she asked, looking from him and his shiny, wet scales to the polished stone that he had laid before her hooves.

"Thank you..I will treasure it." she said, scooping it up with her own mouth, and pondering for a moment as to where to store it, before tucking it in the crook of her folded wing, wedging it between two of her larger feathers. Providing she didn't have to take flight in a hurry, it would be safe until she returned home and found a proper place for it.

"I..I don't have anything to give you. I mean..nothing tangible, or thoughtful like that. Just..my company I guess."

Barinthus chuckled, spreding his fins out as much as they could go to dry off.

"One should never expect anything in return for kindness bestowed. I'm sorry I do not have a rope or something to fashion a necklace for you." He smiled.

"Think of it as a reminder that you are a friend to a fish."
He grinned saucily.
"Did you like the show? Swimming is great fun, as I imagine flying is. Maybe you can do a small demonstration of your prowess with those great wings of yours sometime~?"

"But what if I felt I wanted to?" Elisheva said, poking out the tip of her tongue. She was rarely so playful with anyone outside of her family, but they were alone and no one could see her. She had an idea in that moment, and spread out the wing that wasn't holding his gift, turning and neatly extracting one of the darker feathers from her wing.

She stepped to his side with it in her mouth, reaching and tucking it in his short mane behind his ear, feeling incredibly bold and forward as she did so;
"And now you'll always remember you have a bird for a friend." she said, stepping back again.

"You swim wonderfully, but you already knew that." she said, smiling at him.
"And I'll happily fly for you. But another day."

She laughed a little, it was as good an excuse as any for seeing him again, as she realised that she would not only like to, but looked forward to it.

"Oh~" He beamed at her " Won't I get a lot of looks with a feather in my hair!" His tail fanned out behind him happily.
"Thank you, I will try and keep it in tact out of the water. feathers don't do so well under the waves."
He laughed, a rich, deep sound that seemed to resonate through the area.
"Fish were made for swimming and birds were made for flying~"
He nodded.
"Fair enough~At least that means you will have to come back to find this lazy prince of fish." He smirked.

"Yes, they'll wonder what a fish is doing with feathers." Elisheva said, trying to keep a straight face. The more they talked, the less Princely he seemed, until she was occasionally wondering if that had just been a joke. But it would be a strange thing to say about oneself if not true..no, she was fairly sure he was just very relaxed. Was it merely the place, or her company?

"Well, they do dry again, but I'm not sure what salt water does if you immerse them too often. I've never..well, never really wondered about it."

She nodded as he spoke.
"True..but they get to meet on land, especially when a fish has legs." she nodded at Barinthus.

"And where would I find a Prince when he is not taking his ease?" she asked.
"Do I search all the water for you?"

Barinthus smirked even wider.
"Do you know there are such creatures as "flying fish"? They're quite something to behold."
He tilted his head at her.
"Saltwater sadly ruins most things that are never meant to be submersed in it" He pondered that a moment but then laughed lightly.
"Yes, I suppose it does help when fish have legs to climb up on land to meet the bird, the earth is the great meeting place for the kinds, the bird comes down, the fish comes up ~"
He glanced at her, his eyes like chips of orange topaz.
"Sadly, when i'm working as prince, I rarely come up for air, you would be hard pressed to find me even if you stuck your head in the ocean to look."

He was amused at the thought, but simply raised his fins and cleared his throat.
"However, If you would want to tary with me a little when i'm off, you can meet me at the pool here?"

"No I didn't. I would like to see those too one day." Elisheva said, shaking her head.
"Do they really fly?"

She wondered at his meaning when he spoke of saltwater, but maybe he meant nothing more than what he had actually said out loud. Instead she replied after he had finished speaking;
"The bird always comes to land when she has a real reason to. A bird will search the highest and the lowest places for something that has meaning to her." she paused, a flush on her cheeks. It was hard to proceed in a casual way when you wanted to let it be known that someone's company would always be welcome.

"Well..maybe you could find yourself more at leisure than at work. Then I could find you here, whenever I felt the pull of the sea and an urge for finned company."

"Mmm, more like glide gracefully." He mused.
"They have extra long fins so when they leap out of the water they "fly"."
He smiled.

"You are always welcome here if you have need for a resting place. Hopefully I'll be able to drag myself from the depths more often if I have the promise of such interesting company."
He raised an eyebrow at her, a smile curling on his lips.

"Well then, even if they don't really fly, that would be something to see. What kind of water do they live in?"
Elisheva could always fly over water, though she didn't often like to go a great distance from land in case she either tired or the weather turned bad. But if there was someone in the water below..

She nodded at his offering to share this place of his..well, it wasn't his but it was a place of retreat for him.

"Very kind of you. And..well I wouldn't want to interfere with your duties, but I would like to see you again. So you'll just have to come up for air more often." she chuckled.

Barinthus wiggled his head fins.
"They are primarily salt water beings."
He answered lightly.
"They occasionally enjoy being near islands, perhaps you can see them safely from there."
He chuckled.
"I will do my best to come up, since I have a good reason now."
