I want a masterpiece like something with St. Michael fighting off dragons with his angel warriors.

I'm with the crowd that says it just depends on what you get. In example, a tattoo like a cross would be fine. A gang tattoo or something like "devil's child" wouldn't. whee

Another reference for this: a recent article in "The Christian Century" had a feature on this.

Here is one; mostly pro-tattoos.

Here's another, mostly against.

in the old testament it talked about mutilating yourself, like cutting and such in mourning at funerals. Since the new testament is what Jesus said to follow, it doesn't say you can't get a tattoo of a christian element, I have two on both my arms. One's a cross and the other is the trinity knot with praying hands in the background.

I'm still working on my design for the Ankh to match the cross on my right shoulder. i figure the egyptian symbol for eternal life and the symbol for saved were a good combination.

Regardless of what it is also referred to, the Ankh comes from a pagan religion and is therefore a pagan symbol.

So I guess different denominations just have different views, but I doubt my youth group teacher will never let me get one, since she is conservative, fundamentalist Baptist. confused

I'm rather just a non-denom Christian.

Unless I hide it cleverly...

I never really wanted to get a tattoo, I was just curious because I see other Christians with tattoos and my mom says that the reason why they have them, is because they had them before they got saved, not after. pfft.

If I were to get one, I would get a elaborately designed cross, with a verse under it, and have it tattooed behind my neck. x]

Your youth group teacher has no control over your body whatsoever, and your parents only do until yuo reach the age of majority or get emancipated.

ok. but for the reccord i'm still gettign one etched into my flesh. as it is a symbol for eternal life i think it would compliment the cross that i have tattooed on the opposite shoulder nicely.

i find your mom's views a little odd. i actually had a youth pastor with "saved" tattooed accross his shoulder over a cross. and a friend of mine got "god's child" accross his back.
