I know that... she felt herself trembling slightly. I didn't think...I didn't know... How was he getting to her? Last night she was terrified of him, of having a lifemate at all, but now...

Did not know that the pull would be so strong? Nor did I. But I hurt you on our last meeting, and I intend to make up for that somehow. No one should fear their lifemate. His arms moved to wrap her in his embrace while he brushed a kiss on her temple.

Serenata found herself surrounded with warmth and a feeling of security as she rested her head against his chest. She could hear his heart beating there...and hers beating the same. She was in serious danger of becoming attached...not just the natural pull of lifemates, but the more time she spent around him the more she began to admire his character and his kindness.

Damien's eyes narrowed from the shadows and a low growl escaped him.
Nicholai went stiff, detecting the other, much younger male. He shifted himself so that he was in front of Serenata, sheilding her with his body. We have company.
Damien caught the possessive movement and launched himself at the male who held his sister close. "You leave her alone," He spat out as he attempted to claw at the larger male's chest and get to his heart.
Nicholai stood, eyes cold and dark as he stared at the youth. He picked the youth up in one hoof, "Fall silent. Your voice mars the night's beauty."
Damien opened his mouth to hurl more words at the male, attempting to trap him somehow so he could get Serenata away, but no voice came out from his mouth.
Nicholai flexed his muscles, closing the airways in the boy's body.

"No! Nicholai, don't hurt him!" Serenata tried dodging around him. He's my brother, please, I know you can stop him without harming him.

Merciless eyes warmed slightly at hearing her voice and he threw the boy down, away from him and his lifemate. "Should you ever attempt such an act again, you will pay dearly." The words came out in a whisper, but there was no doubt Damien heard them.
Damien stood, crouched low and readying for another attack, "Then I suppose I shall just have to pay dearly, for you are not getting my sister." Damien, who was inept at many things and abilities, had always been a quick study when it came to anything to do with lightning. Now he called down bolt after bolt, forcing Nicholai to move further from Serenata. "Run now Serenata. I will hold this vampire off long enough for you to escape."
Nicholai laughed, "Vampire?" Sharp fangs lay exposed, mimicking those of the undead, "You would accuse me, lifemate of your sister, of being the undead? My boy...you are getting in over your head..."

"DAMIEN!" Serenata growled. "You will stop this now." She didn't run. She got right up in her brother's face, "How dare you meddle in my affairs. If anyone is to be hurling lightning blots at my lifemate it will be me. Do you understand?"

Damien growled, "Lifemate?" He snorted at Nicholai. "You are fortunate that my sister is your protection, lest you would be dead right now."
Nicholai tossed the boy down again and drew himself up to his full height. "It would be wise for you not to upset your sister. Her happiness is my duty, and if that means sewing your mouth shut, I will gladly take up needlepoint."
"Whoever heard of a male doing needlepoint..." He scoffed, "Just wait until father hears of this. He will make certain that Grandfather is on his side and then you will be forbidden to see this...thing..." He said the word with all the disdain and contempt he could muster. All he could feel was the hatred for this one male who threatened to tear apart his family by claiming his sister.

She held her head high more than confident in her words, "I will remind you that the females in our line greatly out number the males and they will side with my decision. My decision and mine alone will govern my life, not you and not father. Understand that."

"Whatever you need to believe, woman." He turned to stalk off, taking his leave of them now.
Nicholai's muscles bunched, anger streaming off of him. "I have half a mind to go and show him what happens to those who call you anything but your name..."

Serenata's tail twitched with agitation, "I have more than that. But that's not the way to deal with Damien...no, I'm going to have to out smart him...and do some damage control..." She reached out with her mind, Mother? I think I will need your help with something...

Serena's worried voice was there in an instant, What's wrong Serenata dear?
Nicholai wrapped his arms around her again, needing the comfort of her touch more than anything right now.

Um...ok, if Damien comes running to father, or worse, grandfather, telling him a vampire's captured me or something please explain that that's not true... She clung to Nicholai's arms, sensing his need for her and seeking to soothe him. And...I've found my lifemate...or he found me...

Wonderful dear! You'll have to bring him by so that I can meet him. It might be easier if I meet him before your father does...that way I can tell him that I've already looked into everything. Serena was bubbling over with the knowledge, sending her waves of warmth and love, hoping that this male would not put her daughter through what her lifemate had. But don't you worry about your brother. I'll make sure he goes and spends some time with Auntie Lena.
