Caelan had grabbed his watch promptly and without thought. If he was willing to give his life for his country, he was sure as hell willing to give it for the world. He had studied it, barely recognizing and processing what the others were saying. Once he finished studying it, he clipped the chain to his belt loop and continued to study it. He looked up when he saw movement, and saw they were all leaving. Caelan stood and followed, still moving rather stiffly. He was a military man through and through, and only the heat of battle could make him not stand at attention.

-{Simon Course}-
The group stopped at a metal ring up on the top of the second-level balcony. The combat specialist, Richard Hyde, herded everyone into the inside of the rather large ring - it must have been ten feet in diameter. Nodding to the man sitting by the edge of it, typing on a laptop, he stepped in as well and closed his eyes tightly. "You guys may want to close your eyes, if you feel like it. Not needed, though, but it does make things easier the first time and you get used to it."
And with that, the man on the laptop typed a few particular sentences, gave a brief wave to the people on this "trip" - "Hey Rick, don't go too crazy on them. We need new recruits who can hold their own, not people with crushed self-esteem." - and hit two keys. The ring seemed to bounce a fraction of an inch into the air, and Simon blinked as it happened. That was...
For an instant he felt the air shimmer. A strong, blue-tinged presence (Does that make sense? What is this?) next to him must have been Hyde, because there was nobody else who was in that direction. And next it was as if everything snapped, and the world faded to a textureless, featureless, scentless, tasteless gray wall.
Moments later, light and...relative normalcy returned, and he was sitting in a field stretching endlessly from side to side. The other people seemed to be coming as well, as he saw transparent figure forming, and in front of him stood Richard Hyde and Genesis. What? Oh, so this is where we are...ah! He looked around, taking in the odd gray-green-blue sky with drifting clouds and the endless, slightly yellowed grass.

{{ I get the feeling that wasn't the best place to stop - does anyone have an idea how to continue from here? Anyway, that was the last of my rush-puppeting: I didn't want to get stuck keeping one short scene lasting too long.
If nobody has a response within a day or so I'll edit my post and give a jumping-point. Sorry. }}

Adriane was tempted to do what the man suggested, but decided against it in case no one else followed. There were butterflies in her stomach as the air around them changed, and she swallowed, not able to find words to describe the process. It was as if reality had been distorted.
Though I guess it has, she thought before everything became grey. Briefly, she wondered if this was how dying felt like.
When things settled, Adriane found herself sitting in what appeared to be a large field. As she stood up, feeling a bit light-headed, she scanned the area. If this is the echo, it's surprisingly ordinary. Minus the odd colouring.
She blinked twice to make sure that her vision was fine, and then stretched out her arms. Part of her wished she had her camera here so she could take pictures, while another part reminded her that that was not entirely appropriate. She doubted cameras would even work in this place. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath before letting it out.
What happens now?

Kurz was ushered into the ring. He didn't know what the reason was, or much of anything besides someone needing his, and a few other people's, help. he was through asking questions if all he was going to get was the runaround so he just followed the rest of the group and hoped someone would tell him something concrete soon.
As he waited for a revelation he was warned to close his eyes. What the hell for? he wondered. A guy at a computer terminal taunted the 'combat specialist' and waved to the group. As soon as he did this there was a jump in the floor and the view changed, first there was nothing but gray, and then grass, lots of grass. There was one answer, now for the load of other questions.
Kurz looked left then right then left again, a look of surprise and astonishment on his face. He had been surrounded by computers, equipment, people. There had been a hard floor under him, a roof over him ,and walls all around him. Now he was in a meadow; there was nothing but sky and clouds above him and lots and lots of grass beneath him. "What the hell is going on? Where are we?" Kurz asked , half surprised, half annoyed, locking eyes on the now reappeared Genesis. "how did you get here?" left unasked; it probably wouldn't be satisfactorily answered.. After all he had disappeared right after the meeting, he hadn't walked off, he just disappeared *poof*; now he had reappeared just as suddenly, once again, without walking anywhere.

Alanna couldn’t control herself and was constantly looking this way and that as they walked around--simple curiosity was a very strong emotion for her. She had to hold in the need to bounce and clap and make little noises at some of the stuff she saw, especially after being ‘herded’ into that large ring thing. Being told that they might want to close their eyes to help them get used to it and nodded and closed her eyes. She bit her lower lip, but just had to let out a little peek. It was a gray wall.
She quickly closed the eye again and now closed them shut tight, like a little kid might do. She felt a little tickly around her stomach as things around her changed and she let out a small, quiet giggle at it, her arms folding around her stomach. She couldn’t get rid of the strange feeling but still didn’t open her eyes. If it had gone from the room to a gray area, then she didn’t want to see what the morphing between areas might look like. It might make her seriously question her sanity if it was anything like her imagination pictured it.
Hearing someone speak, the woman slowly open her eyes. Her vision was met with a beautiful field that seemed to go on and on for all eternity… ”Woooooow” she said in a voice somewhere between normal speaking a whisper. It was so pretty and unexpected. Her whole face lit up and she turned her vision up towards the sky. A confused look flashed over her face at the odd coloring, but she shook her head and smiled again. It’s like magic she thought in the pretty coloration.
She made a turn to look around her, then just spun for a moment and took a deep breath. She stopped and noticed some weird outlining coming into view. Do I need my eyes checked? Then she noticed it was the other people as they appeared around her in this area. “Neat-o,” she said with a straight face and a blink. She looked around at the others, who also seemed somewhat confused and bewildered and in awe and all of those wonderful things she was feeling. She tapped a finger to her chin as she looked around again, then returned her vision to Richard and Genesis. “Is this that Echo World you spoke of?” She was pretty darn sure that she wasn't the only one with this question in mind.

{{Soon we'll need to sort out Images for people, at least roughly. That'll be in a bit, but not yet. Rhm has an idea that's probably fine, I've got mine, not heard anything about the rest yet. Think on it.
Also, Lucifer, you're going to need to post a little more. I'm trying to wait for everyone but you're barely keeping to the 1-post-per-week and it's starting to hold things back a little, though we're not zipping along (luckily, I don't have the energy to do too much at this instant if it started zipping razz ). }}
"So." Richard Hyde finished talking with Genesis, who stepped back and seemed to burn the air around him as he slipped away and then faded into the air. "Don't mind him. He's the best of us here, and the only one who can go between the two places without that ring we used earlier. Goddamn genius, or thinks he is. But reliable, so it's good. Everyone's scared of him here, even himself - he's not totally there," the combat specialist rolled his eyes and spun his index finger around, pointing at his head, "when it comes down to what happens here.
"Anyways. Welcome to what we're trying to get rid of - yep, the Echo world. Yeah, I know it looks pretty. And sometimes it is. But enough of the s**t here is dangerous that it's worth letting things be most of the time. We're in what we've called the Plains Zone right now, you guys can probably guess why. Safest spot on the map to be, or maybe second-safest. But there's not much to do, so it's where all newbies start out, so they don't do something suicidal without realizing it."
Spinning his watch chain, he palmed and held it out, the face glowing a bright green with the words STORM FACTORY on it in jet-black. "Now, that means something. But anyways, this thing is your lifeline. Lose it and you're screwed, or at least just in serious danger. If you focus on the 'real world' while you're holding it, it'll trigger the toys we've got that can snap you out of this world, only takes a couple seconds. And hell, all of us have had times where those couple seconds were a big deal.
You see, that's my job. I get rid of what's trying to get rid of us, though it's not much yet. Hopefully it'll stay that way, but no promises. Anyway, I guess I should explain the biggest differences between this world and the one you guys are used to, beyond the obvious."
Spinning, he ran a fingernail down the inside of his arms, cutting them. They bled for an instant, and then instead a blue gel dripped out, covering his forearms with an extremely thin layer of it as the cuts sealed over. Clenching his fists, he opened his right hand as a small flame appeared inside it. "Storm factory, as it's been called. Very useful."
--
Simon listened intently, doubtfully to what the experienced Historian had to say, his eyes widening at the man's strange watch description, and then...he stepped back as Richard revealed that strange ability.
"Wha...what? That's..." He trailed off, unable to find words. "Hell. Wow."
Momentarily, shock and awe were replaced by keen interest. So, do we get to do that kind of stuff too?

{{I thought images were supposed to come after 2 visits}} {{Anyways Schneider means tailor, or literally "one who cuts" Would it be too extreme to cut a hole in space and make a portal? Not life changing, but a good travel tool}}
"Well at least we don't have to worry about you bleeding to death, though in the middle of nowhere we just might die of boredom." Kurz said looking around some more. Sure the place was pretty-ish, but them being there seemed kind of pointless unless they were going to have a picnic. They had said that they needed people to help and yet they were showing the recruits the sights. They weren't even very good sights, just a meadow, and meadows all look the same. On top of that Kurz hated grass anyways, it made him itchy.
What time is it, Kurz wondered taking out his new watch. The face was blank at the moment. Annoyed he blurted out, "Aww, what good is a watch here if it won't even tell time?" This whole thing was turning out to be pointless. He had come with a few questions and he was probably going to leave with more, and he still hadn't gotten many answers. On top of that he was in the middle of a stupid field with a defective watch. He wondered if he should just go home and forget about the whole thing.

Alanna chuckled as Richard made it seem as if Genesis were a crazy man. She wouldn't really be too surprised if he actually were. After all, this whole business with the echo world and assuming he'd been on a number of trips here, and then to watch the way it affected their world...and to go even further to attempting to solve and understand everything that was going on... She believed that would be more than enough to make a person go crazy. And the longer they're at it, the crazier they'll get.
Her assumption seemed to be right on target as he confirmed this being the Echo World. It seemed so very pretty and peaceful for something that was so dangerous and infesting in their world. At the mentioning of doing something suicidal by accident, without realizing it... that made Alanna's eyes bulge as she stared. Wouldn't it...be obvious if they were doing something suicidal? If not then she was very confused, and felt somewhat panicked at this. She wondered what in this world could be suicidal so she could avoid such things.
Storm Factory? she wondered, an eyebrow raised. What in the world is Storm Factory? She felt as if now she was in the place of the students she taught, no longer the one with the knowledge but the one trying to obtain it. People were forever students, whether they realized it or not, but it still felt odd to have it put so bluntly to her face. Her eyes glanced over the rest of the group, wondering if they felt anywhere near as confused as she did--or as worried. So these things are our lifelines? I might want to like... have it stapled into my body or something. She let out a sigh. Sometimes..no, more than sometimes Alanna had a problem wiht misplacing things. At least getting back to their world was easy enough though.
Her nose scrunched up for a bit as she watched the man cut into himself with his fingernail. She'd never seen anyone actually cut into something with their nails, let alone to themselves intentionally. Her mouth opened a bit as her eyebrows furrowed at the sight of that strange blue gel, and in her naivety, wondered if your body always produced such an odd thing after doing that. And then the fire in his hand.. it made no sense. Storm Factory? That's what that is? But she didn't understand it at all and even after the demonstration had no idea what it was.
"I'm confused." she said in an even tone, straightening most of her face back out. She looked to the others to see their reactions, too. The haggler seemed really upset about the watch not telling time and she looked at her own and shrugged. It seemed things did not always function the same between worlds. And these watches were strange items, and she doubted that they even told time in the real world. "Well...they're not normal. And we are in a different world..." she mumbled, not wanting to pick a fight. And the uncertain had the look of shock and awe. And the others? She didn't quite have the view yet as she had returned her attention to the speaker.

(( Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Lotta work to do. ))
Rim barely paid any attention to anything his companions said after the world turned gray and they were plunged into a new... new what? New world? New dimension? New universe? To Rim, the distinction between these were clear, and to understand this place, that was the first thing he needed to know. His eyes narrowed in thought and he wandered slightly away from the group. When he was a good six or seven feet away, he bent down on his toes and touched the ground. The grass was course and dry, and the ground beneath it sank easily when he applied pressure, so it was about the same consistency, but not the same feel, as a thick layer of dirt.
Still bending down, he looked up at the odd sky. "Incredible," he whispered. There was light, but where was the sun? One of the main focuses of his job (well, his old job), was the presence of other dimension besides the three we live in. The fact that there was some other place right here was... "Incredible," he said, louder this time. He hopped slightly, but felt no difference in gravity, and the fact that they could breath without difficulty confirmed that the air was similar if not the same.
"Richard," Rim said as he turned back to the group, "What is--" he stopped abruptly and his eyes widened at the sight of their guides hands dripping with some viscous blue liquid, and then a flame appeared in his hands seemingly from nowhere. Rim starred in quiet shock for a second or two before smiling ruefully. Hell, why not? Makes just as much sense as anything.
One of the men complained about their watches not telling time, and the bouncy woman from before made a noble attempt to try and figure out why. Rim shook his head. "Time's all relative anyway. That's why I never carry a watch." Well, that and the supercooled magnets at home didn't really encourage the wearing of anything potentially limb-ripping.
He now addressed Richard. "How much do we know about this... place. Is it another dimension? How much that's real in our world is real here?"
(( I made a few assumptions there. If any are wrong, tell me and I'll change it. ))

((Same. I've been busy with some things.))
"Sounds like loads of fun," Adriane commented, vaguely noticing that Rim was doing some kind of examination. She was about to say something else when Richard Hyde suddenly cut himself along the arm, and she was glad that she wasn't squeamish. However, her thoughts quickly shifted as an odd liquid dripped from the wound, which soon closed.
What the? If she recalled correctly, blood was not blue. Flames also did not appear in people's hands, and cuts did not heal that quickly. Then again, she didn't normally stand in alternate worlds either.
She glanced around to see how everyone else reacted. While the short man didn't appear to be all that fascinated, everyone else seemed as awed as Adriane felt. She kept a straight face though, and waited for Rim to finish asking his questions before adding her own.
"And how did you do that? Would be useful to know, if this place is as dangerous as you make it out to be." She looked down at her watch, and noted that the face had changed yet again.
Lifeline, huh. I'll remember that.
Pushing her glasses up, she tossed the watch into the air before catching it, and focused on Hyde again.

"True, so what is this whole thing, anyway? Simon's initial burst of excitement was wearing off, turning into a more cautious interest. "Going to have to go with...um...Rim. Yeah. What matches?"
By the time he spoke, Richard had already turned to look at Kurz. "Well, the watch does a couple things. Most obviously, it gives basic info here. Right now it only shows the name of my Image, but it'll send messages and the works when needed. Plus, it's the way to get out of here quickly, which is important."
Anyways, the watches will work like normal in the real world, now that you've come here once. But you'll need to be holding them for them to work, so don't lend them out."
Looking at Rim, he held out his hand, the flame growing until it was nearly a foot in diameter and fairly hot. "This is real here. Technology is screwy, since things aren't all that accurate, so we've had to make do. Most people from our world come from something different, and we can...well, bend the rules a little. This power of mine - Storm Factory - is an example of that." Flicking his wrist, he turned his hand over, the flame spreading around his forearm and covering it. "It's strictly kept here, though. Unfortunately, I can't use this outside this Echo-world."
Simon perked up at that. It had been strange to him that in the "normal world" he hadn't seen at least one person with power, given all this strangeness. But for it to be restricted here...that was a good sign, right? Meant things weren't totally haywire. "So...Richard, right? How do you do that, anyway?"
The older historian grinned and shrugged, the gell rolling off his arms as the fire vanished, a triad of blue spheres appearing on a cord around his neck. "People who've come here one, two, maybe three times just...find it naturally. Usually needed by them, too. Now, right now we've got..." He was cut off by a faint beep from the watch, followed by a message.
Attention. All Historians in 17-03-92 need to exit immediately. There has been one casualty currently, we do not want to increase that. Repeat, all Historians in 17-03-92, exit immediately.
"s**t. Where is that...Forest Zone. That was considered dangerous, but not that dangerous. Pretty close, too. We should get moving, then, or head back." He looked at the sky, the colors of which were changing slightly, then checked the wind. "We've had something out here, just appeared recently. Don't know how safe this place is, so either we can talk here a little longer and get out of here or just get out now." His arms spread and the beadlike spheres separated, reforming the Storm Factory he had dispelled earlier.
Simon shivered. Something about this whole deal was worrying him, and now that there was a casualty, or a report of one, things were more serious. "Hm."
