Yeah, I know what you mean about the real money thing, and that is a problem...
But here's a thought. Since we're planning on making a facebook page, could we see if the Gaia facebook group would be willing to help us out? Put up a link to our page, or advertise a couple days before the actual ball?

Maybe. ^^ Let me look into just how much money it would be to run an ad for a few days. ♥

OH!
Somebody last year was going to make a fanthread for the ball, have information, contests, things like that. We could do that this year, it would probably generate some interest.

we could have a contest (with prizes) to see who can get the most people to join the ball. people have to list the username of the person they got to join and pm the people who were refered and asked who refered them to see if theyre for real. the only problem would be mules, have to see how we can get past that...

I don't know. If we rewarded people for just getting people to come, we would be doing the same thing that Gaia is doing. I would rather have interested people who want to be there than people that were dragged along who have no interest in the ball. If we have too many uninterested people, there will be a significant spike in the spamming. It would also be extremely difficult to list all of the people that post in the ball at least once. I think our best bet is educating people what the ball is, so that they will be interested and want to come.

It's more annoying than flattering to have people spamming your page, completely uninterested. It just takes away from the experience.

Red7227 now that you bring that up, i remember how i got sucked into gaia about three weeks ago (im a newb thats already learned the rules). i was drawn in by a catchy facebook ad. i know that you guys are gonna do a facebook page, but an ad on facebook can also work. heck it drew me in, and im usually not so prone to falling into ad's google and facebook ads are a good idea, but how are we supposed to get the $ to actually PAY 4 the thing?

Luna Verto I think that we should set up a quest/update thread for ball funds. We could keep track of the funds of the ball and update people on what's going on in rooms in said thread. We'd pu it in the charity section or community section or rp section of the forums and if every staff posted in it once a day we could be towards the top of the community section. This way people would know what's going on without having to join the guild
Or we could ask gaia to send out an announcement with the date of the ball 1 week before.
Or when we have the ball date decided we can post an update thread in the community or charity/quests/rp sections of the forums. Sending the annoucment would be a good idea... we'll need something catchy to get their attention before they get bored and move on... redface I do that... redface

mabye we can all pitch in with the money? yeah now that i look at it, having people forcefully dragged in and uneducated in roleplaying just to get a prize is bad.let me think of something else...

Hmm, maybe we can. But it would kind of not be fun to ask for RL money from people. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's against TOS. >W< I'll also have to read that pretty carefully before we go advertising our event on other sites.
Another way to consider this is: Since Gaia already has ads for Gaia, what if we made the whole ad and tried to talk to Gaia Staff about using it as one of their ads that goes on other sites? It's a free banner for them, and free publicity for us. Not sure if Gaia Staff would be interested in that though. ♥

I looked into doing a Facebook ad, and it costs several dollars a day to run the thing.
I dunno, I personally don't think we should do an ad. Mini-events and RPs should do the job. We just need to do some build-up for the ball. Like a trailer for a TV show or movie. We could even get the wonderfully amazing plot peoples to write up a kind of text trailer.
IDEA. I'm fully for a fanthread. It would have information, donating information, and updates on the ball. Each month or so, we could release a short teaser, building up the suspense, until ball day.
