Alright everyone! So people in the staffchat mentioned that this year's ball was not quite as busy as other ones. The Announcement Gaia puts out gets us a lot of publicity, but it would be nice to see even more people enjoying themselves with us. So since we don't have an advertising committee like last year set up yet, here is a thread to post your ideas about advertising!
Mine: -Local Conventions: A lot of conventions have a Gaia Panel. Maybe some of us could contact the hosts of these Panels and ask if we could get up and say a few words about the ball and remind everyone to go, or sign up for planning?
-Mini Events: Last year we had mini fund-raising events just about each month, each taken on by a user. Maybe we could work on making those even better and put links to the guild and the ball's official date once we know it? ♥

I'm so glad this thread was made! I would love to see even more people at the 9th Annual Ball. I've been thinking about the problem, and I think part of it has to do with the changing member base on Gaia. When Gaia started out, it focused heavily on roleplaying. That focus has shifted over the years as the demographics have changed. However, I think that if we make ourselves better known in the RP forums, we can get some literate, motivated roleplayers to join us at the ball. It made me just how few Gaians nowadays know about the ball when I told some of my friends (who happen to be active roleplayers) that I was working in the ball, and they responded that they had no idea what it was. Curious newbies will click on an big link on the home page, but we need to get a group of people who will keep coming back, and who can keep a plot going. Therefore, I propose that we have occasional small scale roleplays in the various roleplay forums, and advertise and explain what the ball is to the participants. Hopefully news will travel to more roleplayers that way. I would say that we should just do straight advertising in the roleplaying forums, but I have a feeling that we would have our threads moved to chatterbox. Then again, I was never a serious roleplayer, and only participated a few roleplays before GreenInkling asked me to help with the 8th Annual Ball. Maybe inviting our friends to attend could also be effective to get people like me who never venture into the roleplaying forums to join in the fun. I guess we could go at this with many different angles. But, I'm pretty sure that the biggest reason why people don't attend is because they don't know what it is.

People awaken when the sense daylight. And pull weeds in the afternoon. They rejoice and budspouting when they sense its spring. >w< i would probably help out by telling the hosts for Otakon...but there are several flaws in doing that...>w< 1) i cant possibly do it in front of 100s of people...>w< -chokes- 2) i cant utterly share my thoughts properly 3) i cant go to Otakon this year cause this weekend im going up to vermont/new hampshire/maine and thats when it is...>w<
>w>; maybe i could ask my college campus if i could post flyers about the ball...>w>; xd or we can advertise at school/campus events such as football matches...>w< dont know...its still early in the morning for me...>w<
also, did daku mention that daku LOVES angels avi? >W< And they enjoy crop growing when its summer. Celebrate the harvest when they sense fall. And await spring when its winter.

03o I had a whole guild interested in the ball. One of the main reasons that this ball may not have been the most successful was the sudden date change. I always advertise the ball wherever I go...but besides my GF people IRL don't even know I have a gaia account. I think advertising at Cons would be a good idea though. I'm not going to otakon either though. my schedule is still busy -_-

That's a good idea! ^^ I remember last year we had some practice RPs for the members of the planning guild who didn't know how to RP yet, and it was very popular. Maybe we could have these RPs be in the RP forum and invite outsiders to join us... as well as having a link to the guild or a thread explaining the ball. ♥

I think one thing that would help with that is making the due date for rooms even further in advance from the ball, because it wasn't really able to be helped, but we came down to the wire this year. Yeah, no Otakon for me either. >w< ♥

Well some schools have anime clubs or gaming clubs. I know my college does. Many people in those clubs are also on Gaia Online, we could talk to those kinds of clubs about getting flyers put up. ♥

Ah, I'm a part of ALOT of RP guilds, and I used to run one myself, so I'm sure that once things get rolling I can spread the word in the guildies, and some of the members from my guild that I'm still in touch with ;D
I remember that during the 7th annual ball, when the aquariums were really big, I used to send out the little message in the bottle asking ppl if they knew about the ball, if they were interested, and if they were going to attend...
And I could give word to my school's anime and gaming club about it when school starts back up (and we're a bit closer to the date) But I'm definitely not apart of the club, and only have a few friends in there, so I'm not sure how that'd work out >~<

I really like the idea of mini rps, it sounds like a great way to get interest spreading.
I know this may be too much, but once we have a theme down, it might be fun to have a series of mini rp events leading up to the ball. Like previews that end in cliffhangers, so some people come into the ball and already have a good idea of the characters, though not the overall plot. Kind of like the mini comics that Gaia does before an event? That way, on top of staff, we would have a basis of people who have some idea of the setting and what's going on. As I said, probably too involved, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Yay Angel! I was just thinking about how neglecting advertising efforts were last year. :3
1- We could hold a contest, similar to the one Gaia has, where the most creative form of advertising wins something.
2- What I loved about this year's ball was the relationships between staff and guests. We could do little mini-events before the ball, where people stop by and ask us stuff or RP with us.
3- Cons would be awesome. I actually haven't gone to any, but if there's one in my area I will definitely advertise.
4- However I do know a group of girls who go around to cons in the state, and I could possibly talk them into advertising.
5- An idea Envy mentioned last year, was that instead of just getting affiliates, we could sell spaces. In the links section of next year's ball, we could have a link that goes to a forum with ads in it. *is getting excited*

Any mini shops and fundraisers should have a big banner advertising. We could make some more banners for our signature. Random chatterbox posts. I really like the idea of the mini RPs. Mini contests maybe too. A lot like the contests we'll have at the actual ball, with smaller prizes. Prizes always interest people.
