I think that each of the five gundam pilots has his weaknesses and strengths, that would affect the outcome of a fight between the five. terrain would play a HUGE factor. heres the statistics on the pilots, In my opinion,
Heero- all abilities well rounded, has the upperhand mentally. Wing Zero is a superior gundam when it comes to weaponry.
Duo- assassin, is the best "pilot"(not Gundam Pilot but pilot of anything, like shuttles). can crack any security system. Deathscythe Hell is a silent killer, also the fastest of the other gundams, the others wouldn't even know he was there. (hyper jammers)
Trowa- long range specialist. acrobat (even in the gundam, which is freakin amazing) Heavyarms is vunerable to close range attacks. (despite its combat knife)
Quatre- Excellent Stategist, can out think most foes. Sandrock has the thickest armor of the gundams, even after a heavy beating Sandrock can fight back like it was at full strength.
Wufei- the best close combat fighter, aside from Duo. Loner. Nataku is without a doubt the best melee fighter. its double dragon hangs with flame throwers are astounding.

I also noticed, why is it that in the games, I like the GW stuff (just b/c of the look), and in the anime, I absolutely hate it?

I'd like to point out the following.
From a weapon Perspective, Wing Zero has no flaw.
Deathscythe Hell, so long as it cloaks, has no flaw.
Heavyarms would be owned in close combat.
Sandrock has NO means of fire support without his homo-pals the Maguanac. It'd get blasted to s**t.
Nataku has the same story. Plus, flamethrowers don't work on metal all that well. Much like burning jet fuel couldn't melt the twin towers' structure, flame throwers can't melt Gundanium...
