 "You don't? That's something we have in common then" Philip smiled. "As well as loving literature, of course." He led him to the back of the shop and to the little kitchenette. He put the kettle on and got together the makings of a mug of tea. He poured himself a glass of milk and put it in the microwave to warm it. Glanced at Nicholai and felt his left ear twitch a little again. He blushed a little, he hated that little involuntary habit. "Sugar and milk?" he asked.
((No ideas yet but I'll keep thinking smile ))

xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai followed Philip to the back, still admiring the place. He watched Philip start to make the tea and then a glass of warm milk for himself. Seeing his ear twitch again, Nicolai tilted his head a bit. "Yes, please....What does it mean when your ear twitches? Is it just a reflex?"Out Of Creativity: So will I. ^_^

Philip made the tea and handed the mug to Nicholai. "I'll close the shop and we can sit out in the sunshine, there's a tiny walled yard out back" he told him. When Nicholai asked about his ear, his blushed scarlet, the ear twitched again and his tail flickered. "Um...yes...kind of...sometimes" he replied. There was no way he could tell Nicholai that it meant he fancied him! "That door there leads to the yard. There a bistro table and chairs I put out there. I'll just close shut up shop."

xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai's eyes widened a bit at his answer. He doubted that was the truth. But, he wouldn't pry in case it upset ths poor boy. That would make Nicolai a hypocrite. "Alright....I'll wait outside then?" He sighed when his phone rang, but ignkred the call and switching the thing to silent. Curse modern technology and it's portable phones. Going out the yard, he took a seat and rubbed his head. He was awake all night again, and was as irritated with his editor as ever. But, Philip made it better. Philip closed and locked the door, turning the sign to 'closed'. Then he got some cheese straws he'd baked out of a tin and put them on a plate and took that, along with his glass of warm milk, out to the back yard. He set the plates of cheese snacks down on the small table, took a seat and sipped his milk. "It's a bit spartan out here right now but I'm planning on putting up some trellises and getting some planters to brighten it up. I'm going to have to get to a garden centre and choose some plants. I've been busying cataloguing my stock though and I'm entering a poetry competition so I've been busy with that, the closing date is coming close. I just got a complete set of Arabian Knights in auction and that took the last of my money for now so I'm hoping to win the cash prize and use it for the shop." he told him. He paused then, staring at the ground, he added, "And my left ear twitches when I really like something. I can't help it."

xx✎I'm all alone Listening to the other, Nicolai sipped his tea as he thought. "Sounds like you need some financial support. Doesn't seem like you're doing too well on your own." Setting his cup down, Nicolai considered helping him out sometime, but he was distracted by what he said next. His ear twitched when he liked something? Was it because of the books, or because he was with Nicolai? The immortal was flattered if it was caused by him, but he didn't say anything about his feelings. "Fascinating. It must be bothersome at times to have such involuntary reflexes. I find it cute, though. Maybe it's because I'm an animal person."Out Of Creativity: --

"I need to budget better I guess, no more exuberant purchases for a while.But I really wanted that collection and I'm so pleased I did. You know, I actually hate selling books. I want to keep them all!" Philip laughed. He blushed a little again. Nicholai thought he was cute? "It can be a horrible give-away, that twitching" he said a little bashfully. "I hope the tea is okay. It's only a cheap one I got for customers. I like warm milk best or a really milky coffee. And I baked the cheese straws myself." He sipped his milk, took one of the cheese straws and nibbled at it. "My dad's been trying to persuade me to have a birthday party for my 20th but I really don't want one. I know he'd just invite all of the bigwig benefactors to the hospital to ingratient himself and I hate that. I won't know anyone. And there's this one guy, one of the junior doctors, who's actually a real creep so I avoid him like the plague."

xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai chuckled. "Perhaps you should wait until you have the money before buying anything expensive. If you're not careful, you'll have to start handing over books as payment." The tea was fine. Even if it was cheap. Honestly, Nicolai didn't care much for tea. He was a coffee man. So, all tea tasted the same to him. "You're probably a better chef than me. I usually buy takeout, or my editor brings over his wife's cooking sometimes. Other times, I forget to eat. So, thanks for the tea and cheese snacks." Hearing about the party that may never be and his father's intent, Nicolai sighed. He hated parents that thought more of themselves or their work than their kids. And, the junior doctor didn't sound any better. "...You're welcome to spend your birthday at my place if you'd like. Philip nodded. "No more purchases. I'll go through my accounts, juggle things about a bit, see where I can cut expenses. I'm not doing too badly, I just need to be more sensible" he replied. When Nicholai said he could hide out at his for his birthday, his face lit up and his left ear twitched. He bit his lip and fidddled with the tip of his tail. "Really? Thanks. That would be great. I definitely want to duck out of it and lay low somewhere. I tell you, if that guy strokes my tail one more time I'm going to bite him even if he does get dad into trouble at work. Dad invited him to the opening do for the shop and I ended up locking myself in the bathroom for most of it. I wish my parents would stop trying to get me to mix. I know they mean well kinda but they need to let up and leave me to be me. Sorry, I didn't mean to complain. I would love to accept the offer to spend my birthday at yours, thanks. And I can cook for you dinner, if you like, too."

xx✎I'm all alone Was that considered sexual harrassment? If it was, Nicolai may step in and threaten if he ever saw the guy. "It's up to you if you cook or not. Personally, I'll probably just buy a cake for us. Though....I guess it wouldn't be much of a birthday without dinner before the cake." Nicolai celebrated one birthday in his whole life, and he remembered how important Claude made it sound to have dinner before cake, like some sort of unwritten tradition. Thinking of Claude made him frown and he shook his head before taking one od the cheese straws and biting into it. "...Why don't you tell your parents he makes you uncomfortable, or file for sexual harrassment charges? You shouldn't have to hide in your own store."Out Of Creativity: --

Philip shrugged. "I told Dad I don't like Lyle but he just told me I was fussing about nothing and to act my age," he replied. "It's not a big enough deal to cause him worries at work over it. I just stay out of his way. But I know dad will invite him to the birthday party if he insists on one. Dinner and cake at yours sounds nicer by far. I hate crowds and noise and fuss. I guess I'm a loner but that's just how I am. I'm happy that way." He nibbled some more of the cheesey snack. "When's your birthday? It's okay to ask that, right?"

xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai listened to Philip as he explained how he had told his father, and the male's eyes widened before darkening. Sounded a lot like what he had said to him so long ago. "When you're uncomfortable with someone, you voice it....That's common sense among all age groups....I can't stand fathers. They think they know everything and think they're so high and mighty." He was speaking quietly, almost to himself, in a venomous voice that clearly showed he and his own father were never close. If Philip heard, Nicolai hoped he wouldn't ask. When asked when his birthday was, Nicolai dropped the dark thoughts and gave a sheepish half-grin as he leaned forward. "...Valentine's Day. My birthday is on Valentine's Day."Out Of Creativity: --

Philip had excellent hearing, part of his feline senses, and he heard Nicholai's mumbling. Then vehement tone told him all he really needed to know, that the man certainly did not have a good relationship with his family, at least not with his father. He wasn't going to ask. "I love Dad. And my mother. They're not bad parents, really. Dad got me this place, after all. Just...work comes first, you know? Always has done, with both of them. I don't really see that much of them, to be honest" he explained. He sighed and scratched his right ear. When Nicholai told him his birthday he grinned. "Valentine's Day, huh? Well, that's certainly easy to remember. I'll make you a cake and cook you dinner when it comes around. As long as you're not dating someone by then and want to spend the day with them, of course" he added. He felt a horrible twinge at that thought and his ears briefly flattened. "So, when is your next book coming out?" he asked, changing the subject.

xx✎I'm all alone So, Philip didn't hate his parents, and they weren't apparently horrible. That was actually a relief to know. Philip spoke of Nicolai's birthday and the man couldn'r help but laugh at the reaction of his own words. He knew Philip liked him. He had thought more than enough to reveal that, and his own words made him jealous. "Officially, the deadline is next month, but I rarely never finish in time. But, this time I'm nearlyndone. It might come out earlier than expected. Eager to read it?" Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. To give Philip a chance if he really wanted it. He wasn't like...him...or Claude. Unlike them, Philip wasn't very social or charismatic, and his reflexes gave away any intent - if Nicolai learned what each different reflex meant. Still, they'd only just met. Nicolai wasn't comfortable going into a relationship with anyone with so little chemistry.Out Of Creativity: --

Philip nodded. "Yes, I honestly am pretty keen to read it," he replied. "I like your writing style. I got the impression from your style you were someone older. My poetry probably gives away my immaturity, wisdom in words and all that." He took one more cheese straw and nibbled at it. His tail twitched and accidently rubbed against Nicholai's leg briefly. Philip's ear twitched, he blushed and quickly wrapped his tail around his legs safely out of the way. "Sorry" he mumbled. "So how well do you get on with your editor? If he brings you meals then I guess pretty well but if you tend to miss deadlines I bet he gets on your back."
