Challenge #2: They See Me Rollin'
Designers, you’ve survived the first challenge!
For this week you have a world of possibilities and freedom at your fingertips!
You can go for any theme, style, color, time period you want. However, you
must include a transportation item in the look. Now how you interpret
transportation is up to you, but I’ve included some guides here and here to help get you started.
For this challenge we’re going to say that the transportation you use can’t be
alive and should have at least two wheels. Have fun!

Status: Complete

Model: Vanity
Title: Safe Travels
User Image

Description:
For this challenge, I envisioned Vanity as a patron deity of travelers and placed her in a futuristic setting. My core idea was that “no matter how much we advance in science and technology, people will always do people things.” Hence the need for someone like Vanity to watch out for the impulsive decisions, bad actors, and chaos that comes with being human.

As a patron deity of travelers, Vanity has been around for a long, long time. Her mode of transport changes according to the time and place that she’s in. In this setting, it morphs into a bike that looks like any other bike from afar - but as you go upclose, you'd be able to notice the sparkles that surround her and her ride.

Here, Vanity is pausing for a brief moment between her duties. With her crossed arms and firm stance, she is self-assured and never wavers as she guides travelers along their journeys and blesses them with safe travels.

I tried to balance Vanity’s divine nature with her discreetness and dressed her in a way that might make some passersby raise their eyebrows, perhaps even a bit unorthodox for the time, but not in a way that would alarm others. Afterall, it would not make sense for her to stand out so much (and be so distracting) that she causes more accidents… In terms of design motifs and choices, I used the Anubis Throttle Kitty bike and the blue background as the basis for the entry's colour palette. I also sought to highlight her otherworldliness with 3 design choices. Firstly, I added sparkles around her as well as her bike, suggesting that she is more than what meets the eye. I wanted her presence to be unassuming, so I opted to not have other kinds of glowing facial markings or have her hold any flashy magical tools. Secondly, I chose a weighted, structured cape with intricate accessories in the Anubis scheme to add ~gravitas~. Lastly, I used a jay blue gem around her neck to tie the mystical components of her look together.

Apart from these features, I also designed her outfit with practicality in mind. As a patron deity on the move, it made sense for her to be dressed with comfort in mind - hence the cargo pants, boots, as well as fitted tops beneath her cape. I also kept her makeup to a minimum for this reason and only added light blush to accentuate her features. To me, it was important that Vanity fits into this world but retains her otherworldly qualities.

Author's Note:
At the beginning of the challenge, I explored various options, from wanting to make a “murder on the Orient express” scene using the View Across Abroad item, to making a food truck to depict the street food scene from my hometown, to depicting Vanity as an ambitious racer on the tracks, even. But after seeing the creative entries across the field, I ultimately decided to go with a premise that had not been explored, pivoting to make an entry that was set in the future.

This time round, I chose a background that unambiguously depicted a futuristic premise, as I needed it to set the scene effectively. I then decided on the sleek Throttle Kitty bike, not just because I thought it looked cool, but I did think that the angle of the bike looked more dynamic and created more visual interest.

With Vanity's regal qualities and features, it always felt natural for me to imagine her as someone who has a divine presence, as someone who found meaning in protecting others in some way. This time round, I decided to co-opt this concept into the sci-fi premise. I chose to create an original patron deity of travelers rather than drawing inspiration from existing mythologies because it was fun to imagine how (my version of) deities would adapt to fit into a technology-driven world. Afterall, what's life without a little magic?

Author's Note
This week, I wanted to take Jae in a more street-wear direction since that's an avenue of Jae that I have not yet
been able to explore. But I wanted to add a twist to street-wear that took Jae into the fantastical realm. I was
heavily inspired by the vaporwave aesthetic, which is defined as an "ambiguous critique and parody of consumer
capitalism and technological utopianism, using the "dead" aesthetics of a recent past to evoke a sense of nostalgia
for a future that never materialized" [source].

The vaporwave aesthetic fits Jae so well. She strikes me as a rebellious woman who unabashedly expresses
herself in whatever way she sees fit, and I felt like this style choice was an extension of that free-spirited, boundary-
pushing energy. The glitchy textures, neon hues, and surreal mix of retro and future elements seem to perfectly mirror
her journey through the confusion of modernity... never fitting neatly into any one box, but thriving in the chaos of it all.
I chose a skateboard for Jae because to me, skateboards are a symbol of rebellion - much like the
rebellion that defines the vaporwave aesthetic itself. It’s about carving your own path, embracing freedom, and
challenging convention. I also had her skating through clouds, as a nod to the "internet cloud" - a digital space
that mirrors the abstract, almost surreal world vaporwave taps into.

The rebellion that Jae embodies is, and I can't stress this enough, COMPLETELY different from how
my life is right now. Things are really slowing down, and I've finally founds the peace that I've been looking for.
The older I get, the more I find comfort in routine. Back in my early 20s, I was all about pushing boundaries and
doing things on a whim, but honestly? That kind of chaos is draining for me now. I’m pretty content with the
structure of my life. But through Jae, I get to live out those little rebellions I don’t always act on myself. Dressing her
up in bold outfits, creating her story... it’s a way to channel that free-spirited energy without actually throwing my world
into chaos. It’s like a small, creative escape where I can embrace the wild side of me, from a comfortable distance, LOL.

Challenge #2 - They See Me Rollin'
Status - Complete 9/2
Designer - Arielso
Model - Marilou

Title - Sk8r Gyal
User Image
Equipped List -

Description - In this look, it is Marilou's turn to record her friend trying to land a trick for the first time. Marilou herself just got done doing some tricks, so she's still a little red in the face. She also may have stayed out a little too late last night, so when her friend called her up to go skating, Marilou was still in bed. No matter though, she still is looking stylish in her high-top vans, cuffed jeans, and mustard baggy-T -- all things that she had picked up off of her bedroom floor. She still had on her earrings, bracelet, and eyeshadow from last night. She uncaringly shoved a few barrettes in her hair, a sad attempt to keep some hair out of her face. All she needed now was her phone and skateboard, and she was off. Food? Water? Ha. Skate is life.

Note/Inspiration - I grew up watching MTV shows like Bam or Rob Dyrdek, playing games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, so I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on the skater vibe, at least from that era (2000s) -- baggy clothes, vans. This was my inspiration mostly for the t-shirt and shoes. I love that I was able to add a little decal to the t-shirt, giving it more designer-plain-t-shirt. The jeans are pretty hipster. I liked the length and belt detail. They are still a little baggy, still room to hit some sick tricks in. I wanted to add some barrettes/hairpins to add more intrigue on her head. I had a set image in my mind of those old barrettes you can get at Barton Jewelers, but thankfully I found some more options. The colors went well with the palette I was already going with. More on that in a sec. The necklace she has on just sort of looks like an undershirt, so I kept it.
I've retaken up skiing in the past few years and with that comes...snowboarders. They are basically skateboarders but on snow, much overlap to be had. I remembered while in the process that my boyfriend and I had watched this video SNOWBOARDER FASHION and thought it was very funny, but also very true. I gave it a revisit and saw this comment by @enterjoyce.1927, "...dust box tasteful grungey...". I think this descriptor is perfect for this outfit - a mixture of minimalist and hesh/grungey. Here, "dust box" I believe, is referring to a subdued shade of colors, 'looks like your clothes just came out of a dusty box!' -- e.g. look's color palette. "Tasteful", minimalist, stylish -- e.g. t-shirt, jeans, accessories. "Grungey", hesh, hedonistic -- e.g. skull on skateboard, smudgy eyeshadow, messy hair.

Challenge #2: They See Me Rollin’
Title: Captain Desert Storm
Status: finished! (Might change slightly idk)

User Image

User Image

Description: So coming into this challenge, I was excited to try something different for Mathilde! After receiving the feedback I got, I already knew honestly that I needed to try something less “safe” for this challenge, something different. Since I am a returning designer, and I know how to change up looks and style avatars, I knew my threshold.

So watch out for the new agent on scene over the wasteland, destroying enemies while riding her stylish motorcycle, kicking a** and taking names as Captain!

For this look, I thought about different kinds of vehicles. I initially wanted to do a spaceship, but realized a motorcycle would fit this look best. I imagined a wasteland, in the desert, and tried different kinds of motorcycles. I settled on this one because it doesn't obscure the legs too much while also looking realistic and cohesive enough with her look so it looks like she is still riding the motorcycle. I chose to incorporate guns with her look so you can see she means serious business!

Mathilde’s hair, since it is medium length, slightly long, is more difficult to incorporate in certain looks because the hair can obscure certain armmods and collar/neck items. I wanted to give her a choker, but the choker was obscured by the hair a bit. I tried different armmods with weapons, but again, the same issue. This armmod I think fit the best without it being obscured too much by her hair. With the colors, I contemplated more of a pine green and a Byzantium purple, but settled on crimson, black and gold as the main colors. I also contemplated giving her leggings rather than pants, but I feel like the more grunge captain look fits her nicely without it being too masculine or too "sexy".

As for the background, I chose to have a bit of fog to make it look realistic, and wanted the scene to look "warm" in tones so it sets the desert tone. I didn't want too much going on with the background so I didn't add any grass or clouds or anything too extra.

I wanted this look to feel dynamic, like it’s straight out of a movie, and personally I think I succeeded with that! I’m very happy with this look, and I feel I’ve taken the feedback and incorporated something different and dynamic with this new Captain look from Mathilde!

“Distinguished Personages and Gentlepeople, prepare to be enchanted by flowing flowers, soft winds, and a breathtaking view…”
Before you walks a vision of springtime wonder, draped in a dress of soft sage, buttons glistening like morning dew. Her skirt flutters with each step, light as petals carried on a breeze, with a crème shawl that rests upon her shoulders - gentle as the first glow of dawn. Topping her look, is a wide-brimmed hat crowned with a rosey bow. (Teehee had to) But do not be fooled by the sweetness alone - her rusted bronze hair sweeps boldly to one side, a spark of wild magic against this soft pastel dream.
Solveig is a storyteller of hidden vines and flower-draped wagons, carrying with her this whisper of wonder to wherever she roams. Today, she is not simply walking the runway - she is bringing this enchanted chapter to life before your very eyes.

Choosing this outfit was a bit out of my comfort zone. I originally wanted to make Solveig a mechanic, but no matter how many times I switched her outfit around it didn’t feel right.
Then I found her this shawl.
This felt right.
See I tend to lean more “rough n' tough” with Solveig, but finding her this shawl made me think what if she was a traveler, a wander? Someone who ventured out of her… her comfort zone. It was like a massive switch flicked on. crying
Thus, her traveling van of flowers was on its way!! I had originally gone with a red flower to match her hair but I’m a sucker for white roses. Which led me to this flower van. Seeing Solveig next to it made me smile. Kinda jealous too, me and my husband have been looking at possibly getting one of those little Japanese trucks, and I would absolutely love to sell things from my garden in it.
Though I made her background on the darker side, I still wanted it to feel like an early morning.
Now for the rest of Solveig’s outfit, I went with the color breezy for the dress shirt to match the soft windy morning vibe. The dress was also brighter than the deep greens behind her. I kept the pants dark, I wanted them to help bring out the main part of her outfit! Well that and it just looks so darn tooting pretty with her top, speaking of said top, I have been crocheting a lot recently, and her dress shirt reminds me a lot of some of the homemade fits from the Tedooo app. (It's a place where people gather to share their creations!)
Coming back to the wanderer theme I went with. Not only did I choose this route to fit how I just happened upon this shawl. How I danced around so many items and found this one that was so perfect I could not stop coming back to it. The color of the peach and crème just complimented her so much. UGH it is so pretty! But, but, but!!
My original backstory to the "Rosey" persona was that she was a wanderer. She was called Rosaline the Teller of Fables, and she spoke of wonders and lands afar. She wandered into a train station which led her to Katrina, a Fortune telling panther.
This was my character's beginning to Animal Crossing New Leaf.

Title: Quiet Ride

User Image

Description:
Sunny rides through the city at sunset, her motorcycle humming against the fading light.
The sky is painted in warm golds and deepening blues, and every turn of the road feels like freedom unfolding.
She isn’t rushing anywhere, she’s savoring the moment, the quiet rebellion of choosing her own path while the city glows around her.
Sometimes the boldest thing you can do is take the road just for yourself, letting the wind carry away the weight of the day.

Why This Items:
When I styled Sunny, I wanted to show her untamed side, the part that craves freedom and isn’t afraid to stand out.
The motorcycle was the heart of this look, embodying motion and strength.
Leather, ripped jeans, and goggles bring out that rebel spark.
And honestly, I couldn’t believe this was my soft, dreamy Sunny transformed into someone so bold emotion_kirakira
It’s like she stepped out of her own storybook and decided to write a wilder chapter beneath the sunset sky.

About Me:
Lately I’ve been so tired of the routines, the same cycle day after day.
That’s why, at this very moment, I just wish Sunny could ride up to my door, pick me up, and take me on a spin through the city while the sun goes down.
No plans, no schedule, just the two of us, escaping everything for a while, enjoying the lights, the roads, and the feeling of being free heart

Great job this week designers, we are rolling right along with this cycle! ;D
A note to everyone: the judges are not crazy about spoilers. At all. The only
things you put in spoilers should be entirely optional details, and we are likely
to skip over them. So just keep that in mind. Optional details are things like the equip list and inspiration images, and not parts of your design description.
Also for designers who are having trouble with image quality please feel free to reach out to me ThoughtsofaDame!
I am more than happy to help troubleshoot your image quality issue.
We all want to be judging you on the design not whether we can see the work you're doing.

SoggykittenART — Olivia
• You killed it this week. The judges all loved this outfit and you received high scores in every category. The dress itself was so well made and the layering was on point.
You didn't feel the need to show us the wheels, you know we know they're there, which was actually to the benefit of the look.
It was a creative and smart choice that allowed you to show us a look that was completely unobstructed and really incredible.
• You really didn't need to show us the early version of the look; simply explaining that you had changed it from darker tones would have been more than enough.
Some of the judges wish there had been some sort of wheel worked into the design as a nod to the challenge.

Endless Endeavors — Jae
• This week was a solid hit for the judges. Jae looks dynamic and fun, and we thought the Vaporwave vibes and color scheme were fantastic!
You also really took our advice on handling the description.
You refocused on telling us about your idea and process, which is what we love to see!
• Jae's face is looking a tad flat; some make up that adds definition or a nose might help.

kaekie — Willow
• We love the choice of a wagon for your wheels this week! It stood out against the more conventional choices.
The outfit is cute and the background looks great. You clearly gave us what you were aiming for.
• The judges thought that Willows make up was a bit too much; she looks extremely flushed here and its not doing the look any good.
The dark filter also wasn't a favorite.

John — Moxie
• We loved this week look and thought you made a great choice with the cute chick! The biggest improvement from last week was your description.
Learning more about you (and Gurgi) was great.
• Your biggest downfall was showing us the version with the pink jacket.
Many judges thought that version was better, and not being able to see it would have probably raised your score simply because we wouldn't be comparing them.
We also want just a little more focus in your description on the how and why of building your look.

Eziara — Delilah
• This look is fun and whimsical.
You had a very creative take on this challenge and the judges really loved the direction you went here.
In fact your creativity is what really brought up your score this week.
• We had some issues with the color here some parts of the outfit feel very bold and bright while others looked faded.
The other issue was the filters and sparkles which are very overpowering.

nenone — Bobbi
• This look works so well for Bobbi! The hat as a helmet was a good choice.
We love the color choices and vibes, and think its super cute.
• We do wish her outfit was more visible between the image being small and the scooter in the way, as we can't really see all the work you put in. You should also focus on the why and how of the look more in future descriptions.

J810Princess125 — Solveig
• The background and use of the flower van here are great, and you have good use of color.
We love that you aren't pigeonholing Solveig into "tougher" looks.
• We do wish there was a bit more balance between her natural edgy look and the softer outfit; it feels a little abrupt.
The dress over the pants also doesn't work for us here. The proportions feel off.

xXAcid_FreeXx — Emerson
• We all love the choice of roller-skates as your wheels this week and felt the color choices were good for Emerson.
Your description was great, and we can definitely see how your inspiration impacted your choices.
• The look feel weirdly liminal. The background has a lot of empty space, and it just doesn't feel like a real place with people in it.
The look is also a little too matchy-matchy, and the pose could use a little work.
Judges also felt like the image was very blurry.

torimani — Mathilde
• We liked that you pivoted away from the spaceship look to fit the challenge and the pose with the guns is a strong choice in our books.
Mathilde looks like a badass and we love that you are showing off how cool your model is.
• The bike still obscures the look more than we would like and the way Mathilde's body layers with the bike is strange.
It looks like they merge in some places.

nyphente — Sunny
• This look was not what we expected to see on Sunny and that was a good thing! Seeing her looking badass was refreshing.
We also liked that the bike you chose didn't obscure the look.
• The downside of this look was that it was pretty basic—exactly what we would expect from a biker look with nothing really standing out.

lucifer eats pizza — Tamara
• The outfit is very cute, and we like that you are really giving Tamara a personality that guides decisions in your looks.
• We can't see the look very well; the image came out so pixelated that we are losing a ton of detail.
It's hard to judge what the positives are—not because they don't exist—but because it's impossible to see properly.
Other issues were the background.
It's very gray and sad rather than romantic as you described and it adds too many discordant shades of green to the look.

immortaljelly — Vanity
• We liked the futuristic angle you went for here, and appreciate that you wanted to put a creative spin on your entry.
• The overall look had a lot of problems. Not only did the bike cover a lot of the outfit, you chose to put a cape on that covered the other half of your look.
So all we really have is Bike and Cape. The eyebrows and sparkles also feel weighted against each other.
Several judges also saw an earlier version of the look with a bike that wasn't covering your model and really would have preferred that.

Sleepy Luna Moth — Tara
• The cozy feeling of this look was great. The Judges loved hearing about your plans and how they influenced the choices you made. It was very personal and we like that in a design.
• The colors were all over the place and the background felt disjointed.
Tara could also use some make up her face just feels a bit flat.
We also felt like your description last week was stronger.

Arielso — Marilou
• We liked that the background you chose had lots of wheels, and felt that choice was good for this challenge.
• Honestly the rest of the look deeply disappointed the judges. Marilou looks so static.
She's filming a friend doing tricks, but we felt we should be seeing her doing something interesting, not just standing there. The worst part though was the outfit itself.
We all understand that yes, this represents skater culture, but this is a fashion competition and there was nothing particularly fashion about this look!
She needed accessories or more color. Something else needed to happen here to make this work.

Challenge #3: You’ve Got a Friend in Me
Title: The Boho Rodeo Show
Status: Complete!

Description: “Yeah, give me two more of those Coronas in the back right there. I’ll chug it faster than you, wanna bet?” We’ve all seen these types of girls in movies or in real life. The cool chick at the bar who can hang with the men but is sexy and is a girl’s girl. The girl that will end up in a fight because a man touched her butt, but will easily go to the bathroom with her girls to sing her favorite song out loud. Welcome to the Boho Rodeo Show, where even mechanical bulls can’t stop a girl.

I had many ideas for a cowgirl look, as I’m fully southern and have had my own cowgirl/southern girl outfits! I even lived in good ol Texas for a couple years, where these kinds of girls are even more common at bars. I thought about something a-la Cowboy Carter, or Pink Pony Club. I wanted to do a cowgirl Barbie look the most but I didn’t see any items resembling what exactly I wanted. I played around with items and the Boho Rodeo look just came together. I knew I wanted to do more neutral colors this time around, because I usually don’t do those kinds of looks tbh, so I wanted a challenge. I gave her a mix of saloon girl style and a modern bar/tavern vibe because she is meant to resemble the traditional badass cowgirl but also meant to represent modern day southern girls.

Her horse is in the background (his name is Stalli, named after Megan thee Stallion, the real hot girl and southern hottie icon!) mostly because there are no mechanical bull items lol, but also to compliment her look and her originality. This is meant to be an outside tavern anyway, so she brought her horse! Her leash for her horse is on her hips, used as a belt. I went with shorts even though I thought about a skirt, because while I wanted her to look sexy, I didn’t want her to look too girly. Her boho style is reminiscent of sexy southern boho fashion, while still giving it a modern look.

I’m happy with this design, I think I captured the essence of Mathilde being that badass southern girl that cusses like a sailor but will absolutely be your best friend!

Challenge #3: You’ve Got A Friend In Me
Model: Delilah
Status: Completed

☠️ ☠️ ☠️

Silence stretches across the graveyard. The tenants of the underworld prefer it that way. Better here than what crawls amongst the living. The air shifts. It feels stifling, like a wail in the wind. You hear boots clicking and then with a blink... a silhouette appears through the mist. "I told you, dead men tell no tales."

This week's theme, I was thinking of challenging myself a bit more. All Delilah's past looks have been vibrant and colourful, but her and I agree that we gotta be more bold, more mature. After researching, I was almost down to boho vintage looks, but what caught my eye was the Southern Gothic genre. Think of the movie True Grit, the music group The Heathen Apostles, Karl Heisenberg from Resident Evil 8... it's a great contrast to combine the dark side of the Americana cowboy with Delilah's usual youthful style. The keyword of our look is grittiness!

But how much gothic? That's the challenge! My initial thought was to go with the traditional all black ensemble. But it's too much deviation from the southern cowboy vibe. I think what helped was trying to go with a low saturated colour palette (decayed), which gave that grittiness I wanted. Of course we gotta start with the hat. Delilah customized her cowboy hat with a skull pin, some blood red blooms just enough to get that deadly edge. Beneath lies her green eyes cloaked in shadow; a cigar clutched between her smirk.

Honestly it took the longest time trying to find the biggest overcoat! Had to be wide across the shoulders and billow in the wind like no other! For her inner clothing, Delilah wears a daring cut up top. Spirituality and the South are intertwined, so I had to give her a rosary to match. To match her redhead hair, she sports some rockin' red boots ready to kick anyone's behind.

Emphasizing the lawless look we're going for here, Delilah's look includes a pistol. Quite a difference from her usual wand but that's just how it goes down in this heathen country. She stands in the midst of a long forgotten graveyard. The resting place of those who came before and soon-to-be guests. The mist draws close...

A faint gunshot is heard in the distance.

Dear Diary,
There was a snake in my boots!

Well… not literally. But it’s been that kind of day.

I was checking the lower fields when I heard the ruckus. One of the calves got curious and wandered off into the vegetable patch. Before I could whistle, her mama came stomping in after her – horns up, hooves in my heirloom tomatoes.

So there I was: dust in my teeth, sweat on my brow, lasso in hand, trying to save what’s left of this year’s harvest.

The sun was low, casting that golden haze over the fields. It would've been beautiful – if I wasn’t knee-deep in chili peppers with a wild cow on the loose.

Still, I reckon I pulled it off. No one trampled, no tomatoes too bruised, and I didn’t even lose my hat.

Not bad for a Thursday.

𝑺𝒕𝒚𝒍𝒆 𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒉:

I can’t tell you how many times during this contest I wished I could just design an item –
A proper bolo tie, the perfect belt buckle, or a charming Navajo brooch…

Originally, Olivia wore a fun little cow-print crop top, like she’d tossed something on in a rush to check the garden. It was flirty, but felt a little too basic – especially once I added the lasso.

That’s when I remembered: bolo ties! Nothing says country quite like one.

But alas, the marketplace only has two:

• One that clashed too harshly with the copper and gold tones in her look, and
• One that was too frilly, more debutante than dusty ranch.

So I improvised. I sifted through brooches until I found Reve Rouille (Cavalier’s Miniature), which draped just right – like a bolo tie without being one. But even that was a bit busy.

Then I had a realization:
I’ve never really liked bolo ties. 😅

So I dressed Olivia in a modest embroidered button-up shirt instead – practical, sun-safe, and still plenty Western.

Her jeans are worn but well-loved, layered with leather chaps that double as a built-in belt. After testing several buckles, we landed on this oblong one that reminded me of Navajo silverwork – ornate but grounded. Her brass studs glitter magnificently in the setting sun.

Naturally, no cowgirl’s complete without:

• A proper hat (feather from the hen-house & horseshoe for luck),
• A pair of sturdy gloves, and
• A lasso at the ready.

Still, the heat was getting to Olivia – and this posed a real problem. After some crafty adjustments, we trimmed the fur lining off her leather coat – and wouldn’t you know, not only did she stay cooler, but her earrings finally had room to shine.
A quick bandana swap later, and the whole look came together like a charm!

She might not win Miss Rodeo Queen, but she sure knows how to wrangle a calf and protect a tomato patch. And really, that’s what matters.

Challenge #3: You've Got A Friend In Me

Model: Vanity
Title: First Day In Town
User Image

Description:
Here, I'm envisioning Vanity as a cowgirl sheriff who has just moved into town. She's dressed for her job, with her uniform underneath her dusty leather jacket, sheriff’s badge, jeans, boots, and holster. I chose these items as they were characteristic for law enforcement in these towns and could explain her role effectively. I gave her some battle scars as a way to hint at her experience nabbing hardened criminals and her tumultuous past, and kept her makeup on the lighter end for practical reasons.

I gave the entry a sepia tint using the tavern backdrop and stacked the fog from Autumnal Lost Unmurin and sandstorm overlay in Desert Landscapes in an effort to transform the background into a representation of the gritty, romanticized western movie trope. With bloody footprints on the ground and revolver in hand, I intended to depict Vanity at the scene of a crime that had just been committed, one so brazen it revealed the crack in this town's foundation. Change was inevitable, and she would be the one to help do just that. But first, she would have to solve this case to prove that she is good enough for the town.

As a cowgirl sheriff who is new in town, Vanity represents an external force that’s trying to impose order in a group that already has its very own system and hierarchy. Every group, community, and society, will always have unspoken rules and social dynamics that is not apparent to outsiders. This conflict and tension between an outsider and an established community is what inspired me to create this entry.

Notes:
This week was challenging on two fronts for me. The first was purely logistical, it was tricky finding the right hat for Vanity. I was also torn between making my own denim and boots pairing to make a unique set of bottoms, or choosing an existing legmod that would likely be more dynamic. Ultimately, I went with the latter as it was more important for me to place her directly at the scene of the story.

Secondly, just as in Challenge 1, cowgirls and the country aesthetic are concepts faraway from me. With no personal connections for me to draw inspiration from, I decided to embrace my point of view as an outsider. I leaned fully into a romanticized interpretation of this aesthetic and chose to use it as a basis to explore something that has meaning to me to make this entry my own.

I shortlisted two ideas at the start of the week but had not been able to make up my mind until the very last day. Initially, I also considered portraying Vanity as a bounty hunter who was stopping by a small town to hunt for her target. If I had taken that approach, narratively, I would explore the parallels between the lone heroes in Western films and the lone “Xia” (侠) in the Wuxia genre in Chinese fiction, as both genres share similarities of lone heroes having a personal moral code and often operating outside of the law, and one's weaponry is often viewed as an extension of their identities. Eventually, after looking at the field’s entries, I decided to go with my current idea to depict an outsider joining an established community, as it had not been explored.

With regards to her brows, this week I still opted for bold brows that gave her a fierce expression as to me, her toughness was necessary for her to find her footing as the new sheriff in town. But moving forward (if I’m staying on for future challenges), I’d be happy to explore different brow items to soften her look if the look calls for it!

Description:

Quote:
When her friends invite her out for a day at the rodeo, what's a gal to do but to say yes and create a look fit for the occasion?

Bobbi finds herself caught up in the bustling crowds, the smell of animals and fried foods, watching brave souls race on horseback around barrels. The energy from the folks gathered is electric, infecting the air with anticipation while the twang of country music echoes out over the loudspeakers.

Time flies by faster than she can keep track of, and Bobbi finds herself immersed in the goings-on until the rodeo winds to a close, crowds dissipating homewards. As she walks out from under the tented arena, she feels a gratitude for opting to bring a leather jacket to keep the chill off as night settles in.

Bobbi begins her journey home, tired feet cushioned by well-made boots and carrying her jacket over one shoulder until the sweat dries off her brow, her blouse loose enough to help her cool off.

She'll hang her cowgirl hat up until the next occasion calls for it.

What inspired Bobbi's look?

Challenge #3 this week motivated me to explore a different color scheme and overall texture with Bobbi. Before, I really played with lighter/brighter colors that I felt would complement her skin, hair and eyes. With this challenge, I wanted to bring out the elements that contextualize what it is to be a cowgirl (either for life or just for a night), keeping in mind denim, old worn leather, dust, grit, while still showcasing elements of sparkle and style that I find comes out when I think about Bobbi and how she would present herself for a full day at the rodeo.

Why these items?

I aimed to blend Bobbi's features and weave the inherent brightness she has into an earthier color palette that incorporates blue-green/white elements. I also felt like Bobbi is more the type of girl who loves to dress for an occasion& event while staying true to what she wears being practical while also cute! For me personally, I feel like any girl can be a cowgirl, its not about where you come from. It's a tenacity of mind and spirit that has style that you can find just by opening your closet and using what you already have. I tried to pick items for Bobbi that conveyed that concept and that part of her personality.

How I went about building the look:

I worked to build an atmosphere/background that speaks to the close of the rodeo after a long, grueling but fun-to-the-bones energy starts winding down to emphasize what Bobbi has going on with her look. I wanted a layered look that kind of harkens back to the "Old West" fashion for women with the layered bodice, blouse, tie and lacier vest underneath but that could be brought into the modern day rodeo.

I challenged myself to go out and try to find a boot item/jean item that would create that Western/cowgirl look without using an item that already had pants & boots together. I almost lost my sanity in the process, but finally paired together a dark brown boot with that faded washed denim look.

When choosing how to style Bobbi's outfit, I was referencing some cowgirl fashion online, I noticed that many of the outfits had a statement piece of jewelry in turquoise. To imitate that appearance with Bobbi, I went for a lighter brown hat and decided to adorn it with a fascinator that was as close to turquoise as possible to try to capture that kind of jewelry element and Bobbi's cute-yet-practical vibe.

Designer notes:

To get into the vibes of this week's challenge, the song that immediately popped into my head was "Diane" by Cam. Highly recommend a listen! I also feel like Cam gives off Bobbi vibes.

Ride Me Softly

User Image

“It’s sexy, it’s cutie, it’s pony… omg it’s Sunny!”

Description:
This look is all about imagining a world I’ve never actually stepped into.
Sunny becomes the vision of a soft, modern cowgirl, flirty but gentle, strong yet wrapped in pink sweetness.
She’s the kind of cowgirl who doesn’t smell of dust and leather, but of roses and wildflowers, standing beside her pony as if they’ve always belonged together.
With her playful charm, she makes this fantasy come alive: a world where sunsets are pastel, hats tilt just right, and the ranch is painted in blush tones.
Sunny doesn’t just wear the outfit, she is the dream, the daydream cowgirl who could ride straight into my imagination.

Why This Items:
When I was building this look, I wanted to capture the balance of softness and playfulness.
The pink hat, the delicate details, the boots, and of course the pony all come together to create a cowgirl that feels modern and magical, not rugged.
The little pony isn’t just an accessory, it’s the heart of the outfit.
I couldn’t believe how Sunny transformed in this look.
She was supposed to be dreamy and soft, but suddenly she became this cheeky cowgirl too.
It’s like seeing a whole new side of her, and I loved it.

About Me:
Here’s the funny thing, I’ve never once seen a horse ranch in real life.
I’ve never even touched a real horse. But growing up, My Little Pony filled that space for me, giving me a world of color, magic, and imagination to hold on to.
That’s probably why I get so excited when I got to style Sunny in these playful ranch aesthetics. It’s like I’m finally stepping into a fantasy that I never got to live.
And of course, I had to make it pink.
Pink isn’t just a color for me, it’s comfort, joy, and confidence all in one.
It’s the softest and boldest part of who I am, and Sunny wearing it feels like she’s carrying my little-girl dreams and grown-up confidence at the same time.
