So I guess different denominations just have different views, but I doubt my youth group teacher will never let me get one, since she is conservative, fundamentalist Baptist. confused

I'm rather just a non-denom Christian.

Unless I hide it cleverly...

I never really wanted to get a tattoo, I was just curious because I see other Christians with tattoos and my mom says that the reason why they have them, is because they had them before they got saved, not after. pfft.

If I were to get one, I would get a elaborately designed cross, with a verse under it, and have it tattooed behind my neck. x]

i find your mom's views a little odd. i actually had a youth pastor with "saved" tattooed accross his shoulder over a cross. and a friend of mine got "god's child" accross his back.

Heeh.
How can I convince conservative, fundie Baptists that tattoos are okay?
My bible study teacher kept on saying that our body is temporary and that we shouldn't do anything on it.
My teacher doesn't like long hair on boys, wants us to dress nicely on Sundays, etc.

While the other church I've been attending to for Sundays is a little more lax and non-denom. They just want you to come as you are as long as it glorifies God.

So I have a feeling that if a Christian punk, goth, etc. goes to my Baptist church, they'll be stared at. alot.

So...I just came home today and well...

I told my parents about it, and my dad got mad because he says that even though, "IT SAYS IN THE BIBLE THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO!"

And then I told him about the other Christians out there that get it and they pray about it before getting a tattoo.

I don't really want to say the whole thing because right now I'm just upset and feel like crying.

There was this Japanese pop culture style haircut I got a few months back, and my dad is not happy about it because he says that it it "un-Chrisitian" and that it will lead me to sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. And that I only got that haircut because of peers at my school.

What!?

I'm not even trying to follow them.

And no matter how much I tell my parents, they are all like, "EVEN THOUGH YOU STILL CAN'T. WE DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING, AND WHAT YOUR'E DOING IS REBELLION! LAST TIME, YOU WANTED TO PAINT YOUR NAILS BLUE.."

I wanted to paint them blue becasue I liked that color. I don't see how being artisticly creative with how I look will get in my relationship with God or other fellow Christians.

The only Christians that would get in the way are parents like mine, super conservative Christians. My parents are so...

uggh.
I just wish they were more open-minded and see that there is more out there than just the typical, stereotypical Christian.

And they go on to tell me that Christian punks, goths, emos, etc. are not Christian at all because they follow "American culture", as in...they don't change the way they look and don't follow the Bible. They are professing Christians.

Same thing with tattoos.

Then they go on to telling me that it is the mark of the Devil, etc.

I'm very upset right now.

And my dad, being the egotistical mouth head that he is, goes on to say to me, "FINE THEN! BE THAT WAY! WHEN YOU'RE 21, GO AHEAD AND GET A TATTOO! GET THAT HAIRCUT! I'LL KICK YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE!"

...gosh.
I wasn't even...

I don't know, but right now I just feel like crying. I really don't know what to do. I even told them that Christians on this guild agree with me, but then he's all like, "HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW IF THEY ARE CHRISTIAN!? YOU ARE TALKING TO PEOPLE ONLINE! FROM NOW ON, I'LL TAKE OFF YOUR MYSPACE, ETC."

uggh.

And then he goes on to saying that the kids at Central (the church I go to on Sundays) are like that because they are following whatever (wasn't really listening at this point) and they are like that because Central christian church is not a Baptist church, and they are not strict. They are more contemporary, mainstream, and non-denominational.

But over at my parent's Baptist church, they tell me that I bring disrepect to the Baptist church just because I wanted to get a cool haircut, paint my nails blue, and get a temporary tattoo.

And also to show them that there are Christians out there that are not...

forget it.

I'm sick of this. I don't want to say anymore.
I really don't know what to do or say to them.

I mean, how bad is it to get a J-rock style haircut?
to my dad he's all like, "YOU'RE TRYING TO BECOME PUNKISTA."

GASJ;FLUNAWEOI NHJSALIDFUHJ G

I AM JUST SO MAD RIGHT NOW.

I'M NOT EVEN TRYING TO BECOME ANY LABEL. I JUST LIKE THE HAIRCUT, OKAY? AND IT WILL NOT STAND IN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD BECAUSE I'M SURE THAT GOD LIKES IT TOO.

we're used to it. and i personaly don't mind when they stare at me. its when the looks on their faces is of such unchristian hate that i start to get upset. i remember wlaking into a christian youth conferance and everyone looking as though my youth group had done something wrong in bringing a goth with them. of course once they realized that i wasn't a satanist they nicened up a little.

It may be His temple but He left me in charge of it. and i intend to decorates. besides i think the cross tattooed on my shoulder is a pretty good way to glorify God

there's a verse about not marking your body (tattoos).....and there's a verse about not wearing crosses cuz it's a curse....so tattooing a cross....wow...

The verse on tattoos was revoked by Jesus' death, as was the rest of Leviticus. See Colossians 2:13-17.

Please quote the verse on crosses.

I'm backing kuroi on this, though he's right it does belong in PM's. the way i see it God Has to have a sence of humor. and jesus too probably. so i'm sure if they bother to look in they will get a good laugh.

wow a haircut leading the person it's on to do bad things... that seems to be more than slightly misplaced blame. i mean last i checked it was the person who chose the path. but for the reccord. i had an eight inch hight mohawk which i used to keep smiked (even in church) it didn't really hinder me too much, except when i had to defend myself from people like your parents who thought it was evil and wrong.

as for the painting of nails? the stuff washes off. blue is no different from any other colour of nail polish.

wow. your parents seriously need to meet me sometime. i bet if i caem up the street they'd start beating me with a cross. or trying to preform an excorsism. it'd just be funny to me to be able to roll up a sleeve and ask which direction my tat points in.

Just to point out, just because God gave us free will doesn't mean he said it was okay

yea tatoos are fine

it says not to mark your body but it is refering to a pagan ritual where the would cut and mark thier bodies for someone who died

ummm i've actually got a tat for a dead friend. dosent that fall under marking for the dead?

I don't think it could actually be considered a 'ritual'. It's just in memory of someone close to you who died and who you want to remember.

Fundamentalist Baptists.

My parents did it again, this time at the other church we attend (a non-denom contemproary church)

"I don't think those two kids over there are Christian because they have many piercings".

If my parents saw you, they would say to change your style because that is no longer Christian and it is not pleasing in the eyes of God.
