Kasumi closed her office door and took out a key from her pocket locking her door shut behind her. She walked down the hallways towards the main entrance opening the door with her right hand, as that is her only free hand. Closing the door behind her she walked off into the streets of Central. Joy followed to the right of Kasumi not leavingher side for a even a split second. Knowing it would take a while to walk home. Since her estate was on the outskirts of Central, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

She moved the files into her right hand as she walked along. Her hair slightly sawed back and worth as she walked down the streets. It was still quiet out, well for Central it was quiet. It seemed like the city was always noisy, a town that is never silent. That's why the lived on the outskirts of the city, it was a bit quieter though, even though it was a pain to walk from her home to work then back home again. Knowing full well it takes a long time she knew she'd have to keep watch, if she decided to take her normal shortcuts that is.

Since her normal route home was much faster then walking through the streets. Wondering as she walked if she should really go through the alleys of Central where Scar was most likely at. Her dark blue eyes gazed over looking into the alleyways as she walked along, an unsettling look in them. If she took the alley, maybe she'd be able to stop the Scar case once and for all, and get back to more important matters. For now she stayed on the streets, at least for now. Joy also looked into the alleys for a moment her ears perked up then looked forwards again, her ears still perked up.

Edward paused, turning slowly with a limp rag in one hand. He raised an eyebrow slightly but didn't say anything.

Ade's words made it seem like an impending doom was about to befall them all. And so Edward listened intently.

Even Mara from her spot on the floor looked up from where she was picking the carpet absently.

"Yes." Edward stated simply handing her the washcloth. "Put it over your eyes, it will help with the headache."

Her eyes were still a little red from crying, and she still had a fever, but genuinely looked better, although she questioned doing maintenance on herself when Edward was around. Then again, telling him the secret was as good as telling him everything else, since everything was connected in a sense. Edward looked back to her though, her tilting her head ever so slightly as he just gave her a questioning look, dusted with a bit of suspicion and worry. Not even she knew some of what she should know, and what Edward might find out before she did. But she smiled, seeing she had his attention, stepping a bit closer so the other little girl on the floor would not hear what she had to say, especially as he said yes. She never got to tell anyone, and he had done so much for her apparently, as well as she really trusted him, tones of her trust going to everyone, but he was someone she valued in particular, not thinking of the consequences. Being handed the damp wash cloth, she smiled still as she put it over the jewel deep eyes and then spoke with her ever soft tones, so just Edward could hear, the cool, damp cloth actually making her feel better, but letting the stressful words leave her even greater a relief.

"Edward, that's Ty, my elder sister."
She said it with such absolute truth, like it was the most normal thing in the world to have a bird that could tear apart bone for a sister, a few white ribbons on her sister's feet that streamed down showing, alchemic circles on them. All of the ribbons on Adenine and the few tied to Ty's feet had no bows, were just knotted or twined, or just free hanging, a graceful, loose look that could be appreciated by people who loved the wind. To anyone, she could just be another air alchemist, but her real talent lay in the more forbidden arts, not something she would tell unless asked, but when Ty slept, she often became much more trusting, and much more foolish. The way her soft face looked at the moment with the soft smile and how she seemed so happy suddenly, the air practically lighting up, even though her eyes were covered in a nearly symbolic way a person could just know they were shining with trust and hope for the future. Even when she cried she had hope. Just then though as she moved out of the way so he could come back into the room, the light fabric that had been clinging to the metal and glass fell free, her unseen eyes widening in shock.

Even though she could not see at the moment, she could feel Edward's uneasiness at just getting told the secret, the banners and streamers of light white fabric sailing as she moved back, and the breath she heard as she guessed the golden eyes of her friend had spotted something he would have found out about eventually. He probably would think she was strange, or a bad person, he might not like her anymore, the air around her a bit panicky now with her sudden rush of worries. She had taken a few more steps back, the cloth still over her eyes, feeling the wall with her foot now, not having moved away too far, but she could reach back and touch the wall now. Hearing a noise of Edward clearing his throat, she might have said something too but he had beaten her to it, apology dripping off her features as if it was tangible. She had to be quiet or Ty would wake up and be in a horrible mood, and she would get reprimanded of course, she was expecting it, but maybe this was worth it. But, at the offer, she nodded softly, the damp cloth back in her hand and her eyes of the shallow, warm seas a bit dazed.

With a simple motion, the metal nearly just another part of her, moving her waves of long white hair out of the way, she bent her wing to in front of her, multiple joints on different parts of the metal, the glass feathers that looked pretty unbreakable covered in circles or writing and symbols, some inter-lapping. With her wing now more in front of her, although she always needed mirrors to work on what was in the middle of her back, it was obvious why she could use her skills without actually writing things out. Obvious medical alchemic symbols were towards the middle of the wings were she could not reach, originally done by Ty before she had been hurt and lost, and some minor adjustments, but the other wing was still broken. Her dress clung to her front, but nearly all of her back was exposed now, the other shattered and torn wing with very sharp points were the metal had been bent and twisted, only half a wing on her left side, the fact that she had attempted to sand the sharp points obvious. It had once been a piece of a research project, but it had been the closest thing that would work to save her at the time.

She looked to the little girl, a little worried, but the other had already somehow known, not something that she could figure out, but now Edward could see too. Speaking up again, her voice a little shaky but still soft and rather kind and warm sounding, she did not want to move since it would worry Edward, her wings things that easily could become weapons, the glass if turned at an angle becoming blades instead of writing surfaces.
"Um...oh, thank you...I got into trouble a few years ago, and Ty said I should be happy that none of the work that keeps me safe was on that part of the wing...their was another change she made this afternoon when I passed out...part of the system that controls my immune system was changed to work better, and I need to finalize the change...can you help me find a line of two that does not look smooth, but scratched and flawed?...I don't want to burden you, but it might take me a while, I don't have my mirrors with me to see all of my sister's work..."
A good part of the wings, the more center part that was bonded and fused right into her flesh, was all for health and body regulations, like she was some kind of machine. It was very dangerous Edward knew now and this she knew, since damage to the circles on her wings could really hurt her.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 11:40 am

Edward hestitated slightly, but nodded swiftly and walked around her once as if to memorize all the different layers and symbols on her wings. He marveled at the craftmenship silenty before settling to finding what she asked him to look for.

Mara had gotten up from the ground and trotted over, tugging a stray strand of her hair with her pointer finger. Winding and unwinding it silently as she watched 'Metal Angel' work his magic.

Surprisingly enough, Mara was the one to spot it. She wasted no time in pointing it out to Ed, who was slightly put out that a little girl found it before he did.

Scar lifted himself off the brick wall and looked off towards the entrance to the street, which was about twenty feet ahead of him. Matt watched carefuly without saying a word, his stare making him look like a serial killer.

"I guess this is where we split?" Matt asked calmly.

Scar took a moment before replying. "Don't get too over confident, you're still a member of the State and that makes you my enemy." Scar turned away and began to walk into the shadows, making a quick left before getting to close to the exit of the alley. Before he wet out of sight he muttered softly, "I need to investigate Kasumi from afar, if you find anything, tell me but keep your head low."

Matt simply nodded in which Scar couldn't see and then began to walk off towards the city. Just as he reached the street, Hughes stepped in his way but couldn't see him until he look slightly to the left.

"Forge! Didn't see you there." He shouted out, giving Matt an odd look; wondering why he came from the back alley. "What were you doing?"

The young alchemist looked to the right and then replied, "I was..."

Hughes interrupted, "Looking for Elysia's teddy bear?! Oh my gosh, you're a life saver! She lost that thing as soon as she got it, unfortunitly." He grabbed Matt and began to shake him violently, "Please Matt, as soon as you find it tell me!"

For a brief moment Matt was disgusted but then he relaxed, "Yeah....I'll do that." He wispered and then began to walk away.

"Ahhhh Forge... you forgot something." Hughes bent down to pick up a small piece of paper and opened it. Matt wasn't sure what to say but he stared at Hughes for a moment, noticeing the confused expretion on the Lieutenant Colonel's face. "Where did you find this?" Hughes asked.

"The new state Library, I found it. Pretty interesting stuff, it was in a book." Matt quickly grabbed the paper and shrugged it off as natural as he could.

Hughes stared at Matt. The writing on the paper was a web like graph that spoke about Homonculi and their relation to the state. There was also a little analisysts of Kasumi and her relations to the Homonculi, yet it was incomplete. "Matt, if you find anything... please let me be the first to know." He looked off into the dark alley and added, "Or the second."

Matt walked away without saying a word. His destination was towards the HQ, half of him feared Kasumi's usual wrath in which she enjoyed to unleash on the young kids but the other half was filled with hatred. The main goal on his mind was to recieve a ticket from Roy and permission to go out of the city to investigate his own personal matters; like that would happen. He was going to give it a shot though. However, he would have to face Kasumi's questioning of why he was wanting to go away for a bit and of corse more questions that had to do with Scar.

Kasumi sighed as she walked down the streets. She looked down to her right side noticing Joy had run ahead of her. Kasumi mumbled a curse word under her breath, a little annoyed that the pup would do this. She ran ahead finding Joy and whistled once as the pup stopped and came yo her side. She looked up noticing it was Matthew, Joy had run towards, as for why she didn't know.

Placing her files in her left hand, along with the strap to her purse, she knelt down picking joy up with her right hand, then holding the young pup in her right arm. Joy looked at Matthew growling for a moment, though it was hushed by a sharp whistle from Kasumi.

"Darn, here you are but no Scar around."

Kasumi said out loud, rather annoyed by that, then again it's not like he'd be out in the open anyways. Of course she meant to just think that and not say it out loud. Joy laid down on Kasumi's arm, still small enough to basically fit on her arm. Kasumi let out a small sigh.

"Matthew, what have you been doing these past couple days?"

Kasumi kept a rather calm expression, not seeming to be bothered by anything, once again masking how rather annoyed she still was from before, and now this...well this didn't really bother her at all.

Matt glared ahead and for a moment he stood with his back towards her. Going against his will he turned around and saluted her, his face straight and emotionless. "Nothing ma'am. I've just been investigating personal matters." For some reason he couldn't look at Kasumi again, instead of fearing her he wanted to lash out, in a way she was now his enemy but he tried to hold back any sign of giving her the idea that she was.

Suddenly he countered, "I need a pass to take a break for a while." He asked calmly and waited for her reply.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stryph watched from afar. His body was hidden in the shadows of a roof top not too far away. Even though he was quite far, his eyes were like that of an eagle making it easy to spot the two. He mainly focused on Matt but every now and then, for a couple of seconds he would study Kasumi, as if he knew her from some where. The ninja clenched his right fist and leaned back to further hide his body.
"Were is he?" Asked a voice from the back.
Stryph didn't turn around but he replied none the less, "He's talking with the Fuhrer. Remember Ravage, he's mine. You can have the body, but his death will be given to him by none other than myself." Said Stryph.
The voice behind him grumbled and showed signs of anger, "....Fine." it wispered and then suddenly died off into silence.
"So this is where you're hiding?" Called a soft female voice. Lust stepped out of the shadows, accompanied with Gluttony.
Stryph stood up and turned around to see the two standing side by side and stareing directly at him. "Where's the he-she?" He asked softly. It was obvious that Stryph was refering to Envy, and he actualy disliked the pervert. The main reason was because Envy committed random murders, Stryph on the other hand was more honorable.
"He's around." Lust replied. Gluttony grinned and his eyes peered down at both Kasumi and Matt talking. "Don't even think about it Gluttony, that's Stryph's trophy." She said without stareing at him. The fat tub of whale blubber frowned and stared at the floor.
The ninja shook his head, his scarf waved by the wind which carried the cloth up and to the side. "What do you want Lust, I'm not interested in helping some little brat create the phillosopher stone." Stryph said calmly.
Lust chuckled softly and crossed her arms. "Now now, we should atleast stick together Stryph. After all, we're all one of the same. Besides, I would speak to Kasumi some time if I were you, she can get you close to Matt." her snake like eyes looked Stryph directly into his.
"You mean she is a...." Stryph was interrupted with a simple nod from Lust.
"A souless doll just like the rest of the group." She commented.
"Whatever, just don't go near Scar. And don't think I won't know if you do. Your still a member of the state and he's still a killer. We don't need and traitors around."
Kasumi spoke in a harsh, but still calm voice. She walked past him and continued her path back home. The young pup asleep on her arm and carrying her purse and some files in her left hand. So it was clear she was vulnerable for attack, so it best not to take her normal shortcuts. Though it would get her home much quicker so she could find a copy of the exam for Adenine. Her dark blue eyes looked around, feeling a bit uncomfortable for a moment, though she shrugged it off. She must be a little paranoid from the rather stressful day she's had.
She was not surprised her friend hesitated, sympathetic that this was a lot for anyone to take in, too much too quickly, and she really did understand what that felt like, often left behind for some reason when it came to people. In fact never changed much, staying relatively the same as she always had been, but as she grew bit by bit adjustments had to be made on the circles to compensate for the changes since they were what kept her running. It could be compared to some machines, the circles were basically automatic transmutations, some for detecting changes, activating other circles to correct imbalances or stop failures, repairing damage as activated. Messing up one of the main circles could cause entire systems to shut down, other circles of alchemy not working, and then she would fall, her lungs not working anymore, or her eyes no longer seeing, anything really since she was so interconnected with the alchemy. She had been very weak from when she was young, but after the accident, her wings were necessary for life.
It was like wearing your most delicate organs outside of you, the strings that held her puppet-like self up in a sadly easy place to strike at. So in fact, she was delicate like her form looked, if not more so, very easy to break if in a bad situation, which was also why her sister would play the part of puppet master if she got into a fight. Edward would see this of course, part of the reason her aquamarine eyes dwelled on the floor with her soft look, embarrassed to be so weak and worried that something would happen to her, something bad. But she moved her hair to over her left shoulder so all of her right and partial left wing could be seen, the right one still out in front of her, she herself trying to find any changes on the glass feathers, but suspecting since it was a main system, it would be on her back, out of reach without careful maneuvering and extra sight lines. Edward was walking around her now, her aware that he was seeing her as something different now, like a incredibly well built little doll, not far from a truth she did not believe. She was in fact a person to her knowledge.
She sat down so Edward could sit down too, the layers of circles and multipurpose arrays confusing at first, but following specific patterns, tiny scar lines on her pale skin in places where she cut herself with her own metal and glass wings, or Ty had dug into her, or where original cuts had been made to secure the wings to her, some of the scars also circles. The first things that had kept her alive after that long fall were the scars on her skin. She had been so young, she had thought was flying so long ago, but then the ground had come, and waking up nearly a day later surrounded in blood but perfectly fine had been so confusing. So many things had happened, but she still had hope that things would get better, that she could help her sister and correct all that went wrong. The little girl had come over too, and she was really starting to feel uncomfortable, her cheeks turning red with all of the attention, her gloved hand gripping her other bare arm. Shuddering softly as a hand came to the metal nearly in the very middle of her back, she heard the girl say something to Edward, guessing they had found the inconsistency of talons digging into the metal to change a mark.
Ty could not be as accurate as she wished when making changes, so while she would scratch the metal and remake a circle, the marks would be haphazard and uneven, but workable nonetheless. Digging into a pocket that was hard to see in the light layers of cloth she wore, light in color and weight, she dug out what seemed to just be a sharp metal rod about the size and shape of a pen, handing it to behind her so Edward could make the change, she clinched her other fist, since it was a delicate thing, and her nerve and sensory perceivers could really respond to changes.
"Thank you...if it's not too much to ask, could you make the changed lines definitive?...I can heat the metal and get a rid of the excess lines later...I just don't want to have a relapse of today, now do I?"
She still sounded as timid as ever, but she said it with a smile, her eyes bright and her voice happy again, still a little warm from the fever and her head hurt, but she no longer looked like she had cried at least. Then, quite suddenly, she sneezed, and then again, soft little funny sounds, then laughing softly, a sound nicer then the wind in the trees on a warm summer day, what she said next intended as a joke, but little did she know. "I guess someone's gossiping about me again..."
Ed smiled wanly and took the penlike shape out of her hand, tapping it against his chin before he saw a chubby little hand pointing out the lines she wanted him to fix. He glanced up at Mara, narrowing his eyes before brushing her hand away.
"Okay then. I hope this doesn't hurt or anything.." Ed stated, not wanting to hurt anyone at all before he started to work on her, carefully and swiftly with precision and detail. He held the wing gently as he worked, taking in all the different arrays.
"Your sister is talented." He commented softly as he worked, trying to break some silence. "There. I think I am done. I don't know if you can feel a difference."
Ed tugged at his pony-tail for a second as he twirled the rod in-between his fingers for a minute.
Mara was a very big critic and watched Edward carefully as he made the corrections, making sure he didn't do any wrong. Even though she didn't really understand alchemy at all. It was a way she felt useful.
Sighing the little girl got up and jumped around, sitting in front of Adenine.
"You okay, Edangel?" She asked loudly, causing Ed to jump slightly from behind and chuckle at the nickname. Mara then placed the metal rod back in Ade's lap, frowning seriously.
Matt stood there silently for a moment as he watched her leave. Grumbling silently to himself he slowly followed her all the way to head quarters. It bothered him to think of he as his boss and yet she could be man kinds worst enemy. Scar's discription of the homonculi was exactly like the discription in the book, both had nothing but bad things to say about this odd race of souless humans.
Kasumi's actions and roomers about her caused Matt to wonder what her mission in the state was. So many theories ran through his head as he tried to piece together past information, at one time she seemed kind as can be... but was this just a guise; hiding her true nature. Perhaps she was trying to immitate love of some sort, obviously succeding.
Finaly Matt reached his office and sat down in his chair where he spun around slowly, clapped his hands together softly. He thought silently to himself, the questions he had been asking himself a little bit ago continued to bubble in his brain, reappearing now and then.
He closed his eyes and leaned his head back, stopping the spin of his chair to rest his feet on the desk infront of him. The sun beat down on his face from the window to his left, brightening half of his face as the other half remained hidden in soft shadows.
Adenine could not see his smile as more then feel it, gripping the damp cloth in her hand and then putting it back to her eyes, light a bit annoying for once with her headache. They were still touching her wings, the marks carved in so it did not hurt, but it tickled for sure, like the cloth running over her back tickled when she folded her wings to her so they would not be seen. As he agreed to do it, finding the spots, she nodded in agreement, since it would hurt a little, but it was nothing she could not deal with like she normally did. She still felt rather embarrassed about this, but even with fever making her mind a little hazy, she did feel better, having gotten a rid of a weight over her head by telling, getting help at something that could take her hours to do, in general having a friend. She had not had time for friends with all her studying, having acquaintances but no real friends, and somehow she felt this to be different. Later she would have to go over all of the arrays and find other adjustments to make before something actually went wrong, but that could be later, and with mirrors so she could get to specifics.
A few of the glass feathers that barely overlapped twitched, along with her fingers as he worked, keeping the cloth over her eyes and her eyes closed, putting her mind off in another place for the part where he actually was digging metal into metal, her breathing pattern changing for a moment and then going back to the usual soft beats. She really did not feel different, but realigning those few lines probably remapped how her immune system would respond to viruses and bacteria, as well as conduct antibodies to rid her systems of trouble. As the comfortable silence was broken, since she did not mind just sitting off someplace and listening to the small sounds, she smiled at his comment.
"Yes, she is very, very good. I never got to know our parents, but she said they taught her quite a bit of what they know, and they left behind every kind of research material you can think of except for a few omitted books...I do hope they are here...But what's on the outer feathers is my work, so I would not have to waste time doing things. Ty told me to add a few of them, but I hope I never have to do anything like that..."
Just then she was referring to the circles that would cause a great amount of destruction, like shattering stone with wind blasts or applying sound and light to be a weapon, those few circles not quite right among the rest, since she had been forced to put them in against her will, not a person who would hurt anything but her sister had been...insistent. Underneath or looping through so many circles was a very important structure that few people would even recognize as something as a whole, but it was a alchemy for control. Smiling as he finished, she shook her head, since she felt no different but if the problems stopped with a little rest she would be fine.
"Thank you very much! You did an excellent job, but...if you were able to see what was wrong, does that mean you work with human alchemy?"
The question was valid in fact, since most people would not have even seen which circles belonged to which, or even what they did, yet Edward seemed to understand, so she posed the question with her everlasting inquisitiveness as he tugged on his hair in a nearly nervous way, turning slightly to see both him and the girl, the girl taking the rod from Edward.
The girl now came to in front of her and sat down, Adenine taking the cloth off of her eyes and looking a little sleepy, the soft smile that could warm a winter night still on her child's face. She tilted her head softly, her right wing coming back from in front of her to behind her, folded the way a bird would keep it's wings, being very natural for her since she had possessed wings nearly as long as she could remember. Yes, she had been dubbed, an amusing name to many she guessed, but it confused her one why anyone would give her such a name. Her smile never wavered though as she nodded quickly, the long silken strands of her snow white hair either going completely over her shoulder, and a good bit of it going back to cover her back. Edward had jumped a little at the end of the girl's sentence, and she could feel him laughing behind her, a strong laugh coming out as only a chuckle. Taking back the metal rod anyway, she smiled and slipped it back into her pocket, having a kit of gear for more specific alchemy back in the little dwelling she had hidden in the alleyway.
The girl's rather serious face was alarming, but not much could be done about that at the moment as Adenine remembered something rather important. Turning a little more to Edward, her face was now showing a bit of worry again; about to activate the air alchemy she had placed to lead her back.
"Edward...Should I go back to where I am staying or should I stay here? Whatever is best for you would be alright, but I think I need to go collect where I put my things the previous night, would that be alright?"
He had offered to let her stay with him, but she was double checking and at the same time looking for permission to do something. She was always more confident and assertive when Ty was awake and prompting her, but when Ty slept, she became more unsure about everything and would look to everyone else around her instead of her sister and herself. But if she was still staying she would need to go reclaim her things from where she had left them.
