"I am asking you not to kill him. Not yet," Jack said, pistol still level with Lord Neirington's head. "And I have something that will answer many of your questions, hopefully," He said. Bending closer to her ear Jack murmured, "The ship has been taken by Mr. Porter and his crew. All I need is the key to the Duchess' quarters," His eyes drifted over to the key, not unnoticed by Henry who leaped towards it. The desk was knocked over as Jack fired, missing, and Scarlett knocked the pistol from his hand and snatched the key. Jack grabbed her arm and pulled his knife from his sleeve, holding it to her throat. "So help me I will kill you," He said, a near snarl, and Scarlett's eyes nearly widened with fear.
The key in her hand dropped into Jack's and he turned to Tessa, eyes still watching Henry who was crouched by the overturned desk. "We should go, from this room at least,"

So cold... All the same, all about me. The wit, the wisdom. Here I stand, Here I live... The truth of a revelation, frozen in fear. Slowly dying...
Tessa narrowed her eyes. For a moment she did not move, did not speak or even breathe and yet, her every feature showed intensity. She stepped over to Henry and watched a thick chain of ice bind his feet to the place on the floor he remained at.
"You will not have moved when this place is annihilated, you heartless worm," she said simply, "and I promise you, it will be if only so that I can ensure you fall with it."
She turned back to Jack and Scarlett, walking to the open doorway and pausing just outside.

"No no no no," Jack said quickly and quietly as he approached Tessa. "We aren't going to kill him," He said. "You see we can use the Company to ensure our safety eventually, he can't die," he looked around nervously.
"And what did I say about being rash?" Jack asked quietly. "Not to do it, oh dear," He moved away from both Scarlett and Tessa and leaned over the side of the ship, looking out at the horizon nervously.
"I haven't seen him this upset since...well, the last time I had seen him with Henry," Scarlett said, crossing her arms and looking towards Jack who was seeming to talk to himself. "I do hope you have a better plan than simply blowing this place to hell," She said, looking to Tessa with raised eyebrows before going back to Henry, kneeling next to him.

Tessa smiled and pointed out into the distance, where the wind was blowing quite strongly along the incoming course of the Scarlet Duchess.
"I have a means out, if you mean that much Scarlett," she said nonchalantly, "I don't usually come unprepared."
With that, she dove off the side of the ship and bolted across the way, the water behind her forcing her along her path of choice and shooting her straight up onto the Duchess' deck.
Winera appeared among the others and gave a brief nod of acknowledgement to Jack.
"Consider this our repayment, Jack," she said quietly, "and perhaps a hint of more."

Jack nodded absently, his mind seeming to not be completely there in the present as he boarded the Duchess, strode across the deck, nodded to Mr. Porter, and entered his cabin. He took a seat at his desk and spun an apple on his desk absentmindedly as he stared at it.
"I should have told you," Calypso said, stepping in from the balcony quietly. Jack looked up startled and at her.
"And my father?" He asked. Calypso bit her lip and turned away. "He is Fieronin?" With a nod Calypso took a seat on the bed. Jack stopped the rotation of the apple with his knife and sighed. "The son of both a goddess and one of the Company,"
"No, the son of a goddess and a pirate," Calypso said firmly, surprising Jack. "He came away with me after thirteen long, cold years of imprisonment, my heart stabbed through night after night, suppressing me. Whatever deal you have made with the Company will be broken by me Jack, and they will pay dearly," Her eyes alighted with anger, before she vanished, leaving Jack alone, the apple oozing poison.

Eras stepped into the cabin slowly, with her eyes fixed on Jack and an expression of faint fear on her face.
"Captain," she said calmly, "I can see it in everything around you, something is troubling everybody here. Tessa has been nearly panicked for days, you seem more distant than ever... and I know it may be difficult to comprehend but all of us owe you our lives. At least help us figure out what's happened, perhaps we can put some resolution to all of this?"

"Resolution? No, resolution will not come, er, at least not quickly," Jack said, pulling the knife from the apple and wiping it on his sleeve. He looked up at Lady Eras a faint echo of anger on his face. "That man stole everything from me, and yet...I cannot let him die, yet. there are terrors on these seas that will not lay themselves to rest. We will need to cooperate with him, in the future, and I am expected to suggest this to the courts while keeping my Tessa and...Calypso, from killing Henry," He twirled the knife in his hand, catching it by the blade, and fitted it into the hidden sheath in his coat sleeve. He stood and went to the window, looking out at the ship now alongside them. A tow line was already being fitted by the crew.

"Captain," Eras said calmly, "leave Tessa to us. If Winera cannot talk sense into her then Fedran can. For most of her life she's been a part of the Sisterhood, and besides Cassandra she hardly ever felt particularly close to any of the others. Fedran knows it as well as I do, but she is in the better place to speak with her, believe me."
She took a step forward, lightly closing the door behind her. After looking out the window for a brief moment she nodded and closed her eyes.
"For now it appears you need help focusing on your more immediate dilemma, though. Who is this man, anyway?"

"Henry Neirington, High Lord of the Company. Son of Lord Nessin," Jack said narrowing his eyes, refocusing his eyes slightly to look into their burgundy reflection. They faded out of his immediate sight as he refocused to oversee progress. "Among those who banished me," He added after a moment, taking out his flask. He drank from it before capping it and stowing it within his coat.

Eras frowned and sat herself against the desk, contemplative in expression.
"Just between you and me, Captain... before we'd met, you were the reason Tessa came to Waeran and myself looking to become ageless in nature. I don't think you realize quite what that scales to, but I am both thankful and now quite worried about it. What is it that you are hiding from her? Already she holds a number of doubts in her heart, which will inevitably spiral into something self-destructive if this continues to go unchecked."
She looked up, serene yet worried nonetheless. A small wisp of green energy flowed up her arm into her hand before she dismissed it into the air without effect.
"Why do you refuse to tell her - tell us, even - what is so much more likely to earn mistrust when found out by someone else?"

"The past is the past," Jack said before looking down to the floor. "There are burdens that we all carry. Why should mine be important to another?" He asked, turning, questioningly. He searched Eras' face before looking away. "If she has doubts, then she should ask me herself, instead of going to those that would use her for their own purposes,"

Eras stiffened slightly, and her frown deepened.
"She's learned nothing, Captain," she said bitterly, "by choice. She has already crossed her own moral boundaries to get information from you about her mother, and now in that regret she remains silent and unquestioning. She would not know you were hiding something had she not been informed at all, nor would any of the rest and besides..."
She stopped, taking fully half a minute of thought alone before she continued.
"Tessa, before she met you was intent on being a part of Illumine's downfall and then fading away, lost to the ages and eventually her unnoticed death. At every turn those of us with her - especially Waeran and myself - tried to make her realize that her life was not as hopeless as she felt it was. Her conscience is perpetually weighed on by what wrongs she has committed, but the most we could ever do to console her was to promise and hope she would find someone capable of making her want to live. That person is you, Jack... and you're pushing her away, now that her decision is made to remain living."

"Oh, I see. This is my fault," Jack said quietly, blankly, with no emotion. "If she wanted to keep to moral boundaries than she should not have stayed by a pirate, and killed me in the desert. It would have been more than I deserve," He said turning away again and returning to the window. His knife slid solidly into the palm of his hand and he tested the blade against his finger calmly, paying no heed to the poison that coated it. "I know how it feels to fade away, be forgotten, put away as a story of a time long ago. If it is I that keeps Tessa than that so be it, but her regret is foolish. She lies in no fault with me. Her past life...I know very little of, and yet I do not pry," As before, his voice betrayed very little emotion.

Eras thought for a moment on what Jack had said, and several moments passed before she finally rose to her feet and addressed him.
"It is not so much that you are to blame for her not knowing initially as that she doesn't have the nerve to -" A small burst sounded faintly in the distance, "...ask. That it keeps getting brought up at the worst of times isn't helping her case either, and I will be the first to tell you. If she has elected to remain with you then there will be no parting her from that except her death now. Especially now that she embodies Waeran Seriel and is left to her own tendencies she cannot be allowed to die, and at this point it is most likely it would happen by her own hand from rejection."
She paused, casting a worried look to the doorway before stepping to it and resting her hand against it lightly.
"Captain, by now you must realize she needs to know, even moreso since she sees a future with you. If you do not even know each other then who is to say the both of you have any chance together, and what if it falls asunder?" She took a deep breath and calmed slightly, "Food for thought, Captain... I can only do so much, and she is quite hurt by all this. I would recommend you go see her."

Jack's jaw muscle clenched before he nodded stiffly and turned around, acknowledging the fact that he should do that. He paused at his desk and looked at the apple for a moment before shaking his head and moving past Eras and out on deck. His mother sat next to the railing, looking out between the two wood pieces, but her gaze looked to Jack as he stepped out, obviously concerned.
