Are his other films not quite as good, or are they just different?

I saw really bad transfers of Days of Being Wild, Ashes of Time, and As Tears Go By so I can't really judge them as a whole.
I do recommend Chungking Express and Fallen Angels, they both tie into each other in little ways (Fallen Angels is more dramatic, but Kaneshiro provides some lighthearted moment). Happy Together is a pretty good gay film, mostly aesthetic aspect of it for me. ITMFL and 2046 are both similar to each other in almost every respect with the exception of a bigger star cast and a slight sci-fi feel in 2046.

What makes 2046 have a scifi feel? That sounds kinda odd...

I like Zhange Yi Mou, mostly because he holds true the Chinese style of filmmaking. His films feature beautiful choreogrpahy, insane wire moves, and I love the way he uses colour to symbolize things (ie. red leaves fall when a person is killed.)

Ingmar Bergan- is one of my absolute favorites, especialy his latter films that get really wierd. Even though I watched persona roughly seven times I still sit there spellbound by that wonderful movie.
Seijun Suzuki- I don't know what it is, or why but for some compleatly inexplicable reason I am compleatly and utterly fascinated by his movies. It dosn't matter if it is the wild colors and insanity of pistol opera, or the relativly sane Fighting Elegy his movies fill me with a tremendose sence of joy.
Wes Anderson- I watch all of hims movies over and over again and they always keep me entertained and emotionaly satisfied. Unlike most people Life Aquatic is my favorite movie by him and I think he is both a fantastic yet intelegent director.
Miike and Herzog are also up there but that just sort of happens.

Daesu What makes 2046 have a scifi feel? That sounds kinda odd... There are some scenes, namely near the end with Faye Wong where it looks futuristic. I think I may have been influenced by some reviews prior to seeing the film, some articles may have mentioned 'futuristic' and 'scifi' and I unconsciously use it to describe the movie, although it may have been a small insignificant aspect.

I love his wu xia efforts, but I think his greatest strength was his collaborations with Gong Li in period pieces like the controversial Raise the Red Lantern.

Apparently Kim Ki-Duk has come out with a new movie. It's called The Bow, and it's already been released internationally, in fact the director was invited to include it in the non-competitive section of Cannes. The international release has generated enough revenue to cover the cost of production, and now the movie is about to get released in Korea.
The movie itself looks like a return to squicky Samaria/The Isle territory, as opposed to a continuation of the less shock-value oriented Spring.../3-Iron. It plays out on an uncharted island, where a hale and hearthy 60-year-old man is waiting for a young girl to develop so he can marry her. The bow is a weapon he uses to protect the girl from the younger men on the island. Even though this thing has been out all over the place I can find NO screenshots.

Never thought about what directors I liked before. Hmm. I guess off the top of my head Jean Cocteau. At least foreign. I'd have to give more thought to American directors and see which I like the best.

I'm making a director list on the front page. I'm hoping it will help with the search.
