Who are your favorite directors?

Note that I am not limiting this discussion to only foreign directors. If you like Stephen Spielberg or Steven Soderbergh then say so.

Wong Kar-wai - The Hong Kong movie director, writer, producer has done memorable films such as Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love. I love his movies for the cinematography and direction. I learned of Christopher Doyle through WKW's works and am a big fan. WKW is a perfectionist and the infamous 2046 was finally released at Cannes after numerous delays. He has appeared in one of my favorite magazines, Giant Robot, one for an interview in which he was told that he made Asians look 'cool' and his reply... "Asians are cool."

Takashi Miike - The Japanese shock horror director has done films such as Audition, Ichi the Killer, and Happiness of the Katakuris. I was introduced by an online friend who is a fan and has turned me into one. I purchased the Ichi DVD from Suncoast and loved it. I especially love how he mixes horror, shock, and comedy all into one film.

I like Guy Ritchie. He did Snatch and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. I appreciate the lack of subtlety, and that everything is neatly, clearly explained through visuals.

Also, my hero Michel Gondry. Even though I've never seen a movie of his, I've seen his videos. Do those count? He's awesome.

I like Shunji Iwai just because of All About Lily Chou-Chou. I should see some of his other movies. Same with Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

One of my favorite directors is Luis Buñuel. He's was a sort of pioneer for existential fimmaking. I really like his movies... one of my favorites is Belle de Jour. Even though even he said he didn't understand the ending. xd

Has anyone seen any of his movies? ^_^

I didn't like Versus that much. Azumi was fun. I heard Aragami sucked (I didn't see it, just 2LDK) and that Azumi's sequel will be with Chiaki Kuriyama.
