"Finally. Was that really all that hard?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow. She could be a patient person. She could be nice, irrational, and cold blooded if the time called for anyone of those. But she simply had never seen the rationality behind the silly dance, the masquerade between hunter and prey, whether she was hunting, or the Hunted. "Now what d'you want? You aren't drow, so it's not some ritual cleansing crap. You aren't high-elf, so it's not that, either. Humans could give less of a damn about what Elves do, so what? Blood-thirsty? Gold-hungry?" She looked up from her fingers, having ticked off the races as she named them. She hadn't let him out of her sight, but that would be foolish. And she was anything but foolish.

The man smiled and pointed at his tongue.
Or the empty space where a tongue would normally go...
He didn't have one.
And as he did this, he sent another blade flying, not close enough to hit her, just scratch her neck a bit.

She shrugged, smiling in amusement, not flintching as a bead of scarlet glimmered and slipped, drawing a thin stream down her neck. "So. Mute. That's new, in an old way." She took time to study him, a tune dancing in her skull, but unvoiced as of yet. "I'd ask if you learned hand-signs, but you don't seem the sociable type. Probably vexed with all these chatterboxes. Maybe bitter. Or just... bored. Need something interesting to do." She shrugged and turned her gaze to the leafy branches overhead. He was still in the edge of her sight, but she was getting fed up with being hunted. Dark Drow or Haughty High-Elf, she didn't care. They'd made it clear over the last few years she was trash to be disposed of--and she still didn't understand why they were so determined to get their hands on said trash--and it was starting--
No, not starting. It was like an ember being fanned to flame. It had started a long time ago, but it was finally sparking into a blaze with this strange, silent man who played with her, like the Drow Hunter's that came searching, fresh from their dank caverns under ground. She had the fleeting desire to cram all the elves, high and dark, into those caves and let them duke it out. Then they'd at least leave her alone, to busy to fret over some half-blood.

The mute smiled.
There was no joy in this smile.
Quite possibly it was rage, or guilt, or grief.
His teeth were much too pointed.
They seemed to fill the vision as he flew straight at her, moving faster than even sound could travel.
He struck for the neck.

She shifted slightly, so that he'd wind up biting her sword, rather than her. She was used to split second attacks, and the impossibly fast. "Nice try, mister. But I don't let guys get that close on a first date." She shoved, pushing against the tree and driving her knee upwards. "So back off!"

One second he was there lunging at her.
The next, he was gone, nowhere to be seen.

She rolled her eyes. "Guys--always gotta show off." She jerked the knives out of the tree she was propped against. She studied them, her eyes flicking to the ones that made a message. Well, if he didn't come back--which she didn't expect in the least--she could always turn a profit selling those. Or putting them to use. He seemed to have to many knives for his own good, whoever, whatever, he was.

Another knife flew down from the treetops.
This one had a slip of parchment stuck to its tip.
It read:
I wouldn't touch my knives.
Most of them are poisonous."
A hissing sound came from above.
It sounded slightly like laughter.

"Nice of you to warn me." She replied. "Should I give these two back? I could throw them up if you prefered. She was kind of curious what his game was, but not enough make a fuss. She had time on her hands while she waited for the throbbing in her ankle to ease.

And suddenly, his teeth were at her neck.
He was going for her voicebox, but why?

"Ah-uh." She said, like she was talking to a child who wanted what it couldn't have. The hand that held his knives pressed against his chest, pushing, the hilts across the palms. "Not edible--people have tried, and I have it on good authority that I taste bad." Her sword, which she had not put away, snapped upwards, intent on cutting leg muscles and giving him something else to worry about. Preferably it would get him off the trend of ripping her throat out.
The tune in her skull clamored to come out, but she was curious. It was her bane, that she was always curious.

He jumped up and disappeared.
What a strange day for rain!
So, of course, it began to rain.
The knives left on the ground began to dissolve.
That hissing noise could be heard again.

The half-blood girl shrugged and remained where she was, letting the blades in her hand fall to the ground as she closed her eyes and rested the tip of her sword against the turf, the hilt still firmly in her grasp. She loved rain, and even that creepy fellow couldn't ruin it for her. It put a hush over everything, while playing its own sweet melody, kind of melancholy, but inexpressibly sweet all the same. she expceted another attack, but somehow, she couldn't care. She'd be forced to do something drastic if he tried, though. Of all the things in the world, she had never been judged by the Rain. It slipped along her hair and skin just like it did everyone else. It accepted her in ways that others did not.

Unfortunately, Lunax was never one for acceptance.
Blades surrounded the half-drow.
He would have her voice...

If the girl noticed the knives that bit deeply into the wood of her tree, she did not show any signs of it. Her body was relaxed against the rough bark of the ancient plant, her eyes half slitted against the rain as it rolled off green leeves to strike her face, comb through her hair, and soak into her clothes. Water trickled from her hand to her blade, streaming down the metal like quicksilver to fade into the dampening earth.
Her ears twitched, collecting the shifts and variations in the rain's song, mapping it in her mind so that later she could put it to music, or place words to the tune of the downpour. She would not allow him to ruin her enjoyment of the glittering droplets that fell from the sky, washing the world clean as it connected the earth and sky.
