╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai gave a puzzled look, complete with a half-grin. Here he thought he was blending into the times. He'd never been so wrong. "Nothing wrong with immaturity during writing. I guess I really am too old for my skin." As if he didn't know that already. "I'm glad you enjoy reading them regardless." When Philip's tail rubbed against his leg, Nicolai tensed a bit. He forced himself to relax, though, seeing it was a complete accident. "William?...He's like an annoying brother-in-law who tries too hard to help you. I know he means well most of the time, but it's irritating having him breath down my neck as the deadline gets close. But, he's a good lad. At the very least, he looks out for me."Out Of Creativity: --

Philip listened to Nicholai's reply about his editor. He gave a small wry smile. "That's nice. Having someone to look out for you like that" he replied. "I generally don't like people, I don't really have friends, but I do hope I have that one day. A real friend who looks out for me." He finished his milk then got up and stretched. "Do you want to look around shop, see what books I've got?"

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone Nicolai smiled softly. He wanted to say Philip could rely on him. That he would look out for him. So, why didn't he? Was he scared of being close to him and running the risk of him hurting him, too? Why? Nicolai was the one offering. If anything, he should be afraid of hurting the other. Not the other way around. "I can assure you. I'm sure there's very little here that I haven't seen. But, if you'd like to give me a tour, I'd be happy to accept the offer."Out Of Creativity: I'm thinking they hook up on Philip's birthday. That sound okay? It's not as flashy an idea I'd usually have, but....It's all I have. Q_Q

Philip smiled and nodded. "I guess you probably have seen most of what I have. I do have a few really rare books that I keep in a locked glass cabinet. And I have one book I keep in the safe. I didn't buy it, my aunt Elizabeth left it to me in her will, it's worth a small fortune but I'll never sell it" he told Nicholai. "I'll just put these back in the kitchen. You go poke around if you like." ((Sounds fine to me))

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone His aunt left him a rare book? That was interesting. When Philip took the dishes back inside, Nicolai stood and folllwed. However, he went to look around the shop a bit and see what there was. As suspected, he'd seen a lot of the books. But, not all of them. Nicolai wondered if he had an original copy of Edgar Allen Poe's work. If not, then maybe that could be what he gave the neko on his birthday. "I feel like I'm twelve again....So many books." A lot of these were published when I was twelve. I wonder if there are any war documents here. Smiling contently as he looked through the books, he noticed one in particular and opened it. Only to go cold when he read the contents. It was a book he'd written soon after meeting Claude, though the manuscript disappeared with his previous lover. It was a silly adventure novel that he never had the courage to publish. But, the author was his name. Well, his birth name. Alexander Alstairs. Was this the only copy? "Where did you get this book? I've never heard of this author before." Calm. He had to stay calm. At the very least, there was no picture of the author, so there was no way Philip could know about him.Out Of Creativity: Eh. Ran out of ideas. Thought I'd give Nicolai a panic attack.

Philip took the mug, glass and plate of cheese snacks back to the kitchenette. He quickly washed up the crockery and put the remaining cheese pastries back in the tin. He washed and dried his hands then went back into the little shop to find Nicholai, who'd called out something to him about one of his books. The man looked a little paler, he thought, as though something had worried or upset him. Maybe it was his imagination, he seemed calm enough. "Which book? Oh, that. I haven't been able to find out anything about the author. Odd. I got it from a guy who does house clearances. He gives me any old books he finds. It was in a big old trunk of books he found in an attic in some old house somewhere. Why? You can have it if you like." ((Really good idea, I like it))

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone So, it was found in an old house. The house Claide moved to when he vanished? Though temptation was begging Nicolai to investigate this house and find out why Claude left and where he went, he suppressed it. That was the life of a dead man. He wanted to forget all about it. "Are you sure? I'm interested, but if this is that author's only copy...." What was he saying? Of course he was taking it. Even without Philip's permission. He was going to burn it or lock it away with the rest of his thigs from back then or...something! Just to get it off the streets. Was he visibly panicking? Was it showing? He prayed to God it wasn't obvious. "Thank you. I'll repay you somehow." Why? Why was this even printed? What the hell was Claude thinking when he took it? Taking a deep breath, Nicolai calmed himself down. He'd worry about it later when he got home. "You can take any book from my own collection that you don't have here. I don't mind. They're just gathering dust in my attic."Out Of Creativity: Feel free to use this as motive for Philip to investigate Alexander Alstairs if you'd like. It's up to you, though.

Philip smiled and shook his head. "You don't have to repay me. It's not likely to sell anyhow. It's not a well known book. I had never heard of the author." He had told Nicholai he hadn't found out anything about the author; that was true but then he really hadn't tried that hard. May be he would see what he could find out about him. Nicholai certainly seemed to be behaving a little oddly about the book, almost disturbed by it somehow, which seemed strange. No way was he going to ask him about it though, he wasn't going to repeat his mistake in the cafe. He liked Nicholai a lot and he didn't want to risk losing his friendship over a book. He smiled. "I can't take any of your books! Unless of course you have a copy of Nicholas Hardinge's Poems, Latin, Greek, and English published in 1818. There were only ever 250 copies ever printed. It's not actually worth that much, about $80 I suppose, but I'd love to find a copy." He laughed, he was joking of course, it would be a near miracle if Nicholai had a copy. He'd been looking for one for years. "So, I'll see you on my birthday, right? Unless you want to grab a coffee sometime before then. I know you're busy with the deadline for your book." (( smile ))

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone Did he have that book? He wasn't even sure anymore. But, if he did, he'd be happy to hand it over to Philip. Like he said, they were just collecting dust. "Birthday?...Right. Yes, you will. Sorry....I'm a bit...jumbled....I'll try to see you sooner, but I won't make any promises." Reaching over, he ruffled Philip's hair, offering a gentle smile, and then walked to the door. "Call me if you want to talk, alright? I'm more than happy to listen." With that, Nicolai left the shop and got into his car. He set his book on the passenger seat, staring at it like it was a curse for a bit, before driving home. Once he got there, he went to the basement and locked the book in the trunk with the rest of his old life things; journals, pictures, the newspaper with the factory accident, and even the gifts Claude showered him with when they were together. With luck, nothing about his old life would ever see the light of day again.Out Of Creativity: And, cue skip to Lyle's entrance.

Philip was humming away happily to himself as be busied himself with sorting out a box of books he'd found thrown out in a dumpster. Most were likely to go straight into the recycling bin but there were two or three definitely worth putting on the bookshelf for sale. He was in a good mood. He had won the poetry competition he'd entered, he had sold several books include one rare one so money wasn't such a worry, and he was looking forward to seeing Nicholai again. He had done some research on Alexander Alstairs and found out a fair bit. It seemed the Alstairs were a notably family. He'd noted down all he'd found out and was going to present the information to Nicholai, to go along with the book. He heard the buzzer as someone entered the shop. "Be right with you," he called out. A moment later he felt a hand on his back. He swung around in surprise and found himself alarmingly close to Lyle. With his back against the desk there wasn't really much room for movement now. "Um...Dr Schuman. What are you doing here?" he asked him nervously. "I thought I'd come and see how you're doing with your little hobby. Thought I'd help out by buying a book" the man told him. Philip squirmed sideway away from him. "It's not a hobby and I don't need any help, thank you. You're welcome to look at the books of course and buy if you wish. But would you please give me a bit of space?" Lyle gave him a rather creepy smile. "Oh, don't be like that, Pip. I'm just being friendly. I thought we really hit it off at the opening. Just be friendly back." He stroked the neko's tail. "I don't like that. I said give me space please" Philip repeated but Lyle showed no signs of retreating. He leaned in and kissed the boy's ear. Philip felt nauseous. He wondered how to get rid of him. He clearly wasn't taking no for an answer and physcially the petite lythe neko was no match for Lyle. He quickly put his hand in his pocket. He had his cell phone in there. Nicholai was on speed dial, all he had to do was press 1 and the green button and hopefully Nicholai would answer and realise something was wrong. He pressed the buttons. "Dr Schuman, if you don't get out I'll have to call my father. I don't want you here" he said loudly. Lyle grabbed his wrists, pulled his hand from his pocket. "You're not phoning anyone. And your dad told you to be nice to me. This isn't being nice, is it, Pip? I'll treat you good, give you presents, pay for your little shop to keep going. Just be friendly." Philip welled up and struggled.

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone The passed...however long it's been had been busy and stressful. He had to meet his deadline, deal with meetings and William, and he had been searching for the book Philip mentioned. He found it, which was surprising to him. Thankfully, today had been a normal and slow-paced day. He had finished book, so the publishers was leaving him alone for now. So, he thought he'd pay a visit to Philip. See how he was doing and give him the poem book. And, congradulate him on winning the poetry contest. As he waited for a red light to turn green, his phone rang. It was Philip. "I was wondering when you...." His voice trailed off when he heard talking. He heard "stop" and...Schwarm? Probably didn't catch that right. But, he clearly heard the distress in Philip's voice. Hanging up and tossing the phone to the seat next to him, he didn't even wait for the green light. Nicolai stepped on the gas and hurried to the bookstore.
Parking eccentrically, Nicolai rushed inside and didn't see anyone. But, he heard them. And, he saw thoughts. Thoughts he didn't like at all. Going to the back, he saw Philip struggling with someone he clearly had no chance against. Walking up to them, he took the stranger into a headlock and pulled him off, pushing him away from the neko. "Are you alright?...Didn't anyone ever teach you no means no? Who the hell are you?"Out Of Creativity: --

Philip was just so relieved to see Nicholai. He got there so quickly - he must have been nearby already, thank goodness! He hauled Lyle off him and demanded to know who he was. Lyle protested at the manhandling, struggling to get out of Nicholai's hold. "For f..cks sake get off me!" he exclaimed angrily. "It's none of your bloody business who I am!" Philip immediately moved to behind Nicholai. He was shaking and his eyes watery. "It's Dr Lyle Schuman. The guy I told you about" he told Nicholai in a tremulous voice.

╔XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╗ Nicolai Reinhardt The Broken Immortal ╚XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX╝ ✎You won't cry for my absence, I know xx✎Though I die to know you love me ✎You forgot me long ago xx✎I'm all alone So, this was the guy who continued to harrass Philip. Nicolai wanted to pop his head like a pimple, or burn his flesh. But, he didn't. Instead, he did something completely different and out of pure instinct to stake claim. Taking Philip's chin in his hand, he leaned down and - with no hesitation whatsoever - kissed him. It wasn't very long, lasting only a few moments, but it felt like forever for Nicolai. Pulling away, he looked at Philip with soft eyes. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you at all?"Out Of Creativity: How's that for a slip?

Philip didn't resist at all when Nicholai gently took his chin and kissed him. It wasn't a long kiss, it wasn't a really passionate kiss. It was soft, gentle...perfect. Philip melted into the kiss then stared at Nicholai, blinking, when it ended. "I'm okay thanks" he replied a little breathily. "He...he didn't hurt me much, just my arm." He held out his wrist, red from where Lyle had grasped him tightly. A small thumb-print bruise was appearing. Lyle glared at them both. "Your father said you didn't have a boyfriend" he said irritably, stepping back though. Philip leaned against Nicholai. "My father doesn't know everything about me" he replied. "Please leave." Lyle gave Nicholai a deathly glare then turned and marched out. Philip heaved a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much!" he said. "I was so scared! Um...that...that was just for Lyle's sake I suppose?" He looked up at him with a soft smile and hopeful eyes.

A warm glow flashed and faded, and then the bruise was gone. "...I'm sorry.
