"Okay." She sat down and took some jerky. "Mmm. Nothing like dried animal meat to start the....late afternoon!" She smiled, chewing.

He nodded "I know, I feel so awful that I slept so long, and yet GREAT that I didn't have to be up super early for work!" He smiled picking through the bowl of dried fruits and taking out the cranberries, they were his favorite.

"Hey, quit taking all the cranberries." She laughed, stealing some for herself. "Ya know, this isn't the first time I've taken care of you? Why cantcha stay outta trouble, dammit?" She patted his back like an adult would pat a little kid.

He crammed a handful of the fruits in his mouth, chewed and swallowed "I was never one to stay out of trouble, but in the end it pays off. You see, I got into trouble when I walked in on Linus and not one but two of the servers. He was quite mad I had disturbed their... 'serving time' so I told him that he best treat me well or I'd tell on him to the Mrs. He agreed. I walked on him three more times" he smiled "two of them were on purpose, i'd learned the schedules and I wanted to rack up a bit of good standing for not snitching. So i kept at my chores, paid my dues, crossed my t's and dotted my i's for that b*****d for 6 years waiting. Then my trouble paid off. He gave me two and a half purse-fuls of gold. the one and a half he knew about, the 2nd he didn't that was his wife's present for my great service and honorable deed. plus i got everything I needed and the horses. I made out better than a bandit" He nodded "So sometimes it pays to get into trouble, if you know how to get back out of it!" He reached over abd patted her shoulder in the same manner she had patted his back "But I thank you anyways" then he went back to picking out the rest of the cranberries.

She laughed and said, "well you're a kid but you're smart." She gave him a noogie. Before he could protest she said, "that was for stealing all the cranberries." She got up and unpacked some more of her things. She got dressed into her slacks and leather curaisse. "I'm going to the bookstore to pick a few things up, or at least to see what they've got. I won't be gone long, is there anything you need?"

He groaned a bit, when she'd given him the noogie she'd leaned on his sore shoulder in the process. He looked down in the bowl "Maybe a bag of just dried cranberries" then he looked up "And I'm not a kid you know, I am 21, little lady"

"Ah well. Hold onto your youthful spirit while it's within your grasp." She said, winking. "My grandmother used to tell me that, while she was alive." Nika belted her sword. "Well I'll pick that up for you then." And she was out the door.

Once she'd left he got up and looked around, he spotted his things in the far corner and went over kneeling down, he pulled out a tunic and some pants and put them on then went back over and laid back down on the couch. He got comfortable and a few moments later dozed back off to sleep.

She hurried down the street, not wanting to leave Eric for long on his own. She found the bookshop which seemed kind of shady as if it were owned by witches or something. She went inside and bought a few things. Some maps, empty books to write in and for logging the journey, and a book with information about the town in it. She paid up and left. She ran to the market where she bought some dried and fresh cranberries and some dried meat. She went into the general store and bought candles too. It seemed like the town was under-inflated economy wise and she spent very little gold. She went back to the inn to discover Eric asleep again. She walked beside him and brushed some of his hair out of his face, leaving the cranberries on the table near his sofa. She sat at the desk in the room and read through the book.

He slept soundly through the afternoon and into the evening before stirring in his sleep. He sat up with his eyes half closed and looked around. He'd been having a strange dream, but couldn't remember it except that he'd eaten a lot of cotton balls and now his mouth was really dried out. He tried to swallow and it didn't work so he found his glass from earlier and swallowed the last ffew sips then looked around for Nika.

She heard his stirring and noticed he was awake. "Eric...so you are awake. How've you been since I've been out? Well? I bought you some cranberries." She pointed to the small table. "I'm just reading over this book about Divanna the Forest City." She said, turning a page.

He rubbed his eyes "What time is it? I must have fallen back asleep..." He looked where she pointed and nodded scratching his head "Thanks..."

"Agh I don't even know what time it is myself....the sun is sort of low in the sky...." She mumbled, closing the book and setting it on the desk. "How do you feel now?" She asked.

He yawned trying to wake up. He felt foggy. "Not too horrible. Just sort of weak and groggy. How about you?" He pulled himself up to a sitting position and grabbed a handful of the cranberries popping a few in his mouth.

"I'm good...I think I've got all the info. I need here about the town. Later tonight I'll get us some dinner and go out looking for rumors of the monsters. But don't think we're going to seek them out just yet...not in your condition, at any rate. As soon as you've healed, we can continue...but I might be deferred from the path for a while...if these rumors are indeed true..." She ate some dried fruit from the sack on her desk.
