So cold...
All the same, all about me.
The wit, the wisdom.
Here I stand,
Here I live...
The truth of a revelation, frozen in fear.
Slowly dying...

Tessa felt a moment of relief run through her but frowned all the same. She looked up with a hand reaching to Jack's on the railing. Her expression betrayed her contemplation as much as ever, but seemed somewhat assured in the decision she had made.
"Jack, I know you've wanted things to change for a while now," she said somewhat shakily, "I guess what I'm trying to say is... I don't mind anymore."

"I wouldn't change you for my own ends," Jack said with a sigh, his eyes alighting with surprise anyway, and his head had turned far too quickly for him not to be contemplating it. He ran his hand over Tessa's before curling it into his. He looked down at it, and then to Tessa's face, before lowering himself down to her. He wiped her tears from her cheeks before kissing her left cheek softly, his eyes unreadable. His muscles groaned as he stood beck up, not letting go of Tessa's hand, as he looked back out over the railing.

Tessa nodded slowly, and sluggishly brought herself to standing, whereupon she immediately set Jack in a tight embrace that if if rendered on herself, would have left her breathless just for inability.
"Jack," She said softly, "I'm sorry for everything."
Just then a thought occurred to her, and she lifted her head for a moment and looked about curiously. She raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
"Whatever happened to that red fellow you were with on our way to Serendale, Jack?"

"Red...fellow..." Jack said thoughtfully, drawing a blank as to who she meant, before the scene at the island flooded back to him and he ahhed. "You mean Erathis? We left him at his island," Jack said, finding it a little hard to draw in the necessary breath to make the sounds for speech. He shut out the rest of the thoughts that welled in his mind concerning the island, but he did not stop his hand from flexing uncomfortably.

Tessa blinked in surprise at Jack's words but shook her head after a long moment. She was already in a bad position to be venturing anywhere unsafe, and Serendale - much less any other of the Tessalonian lands - was in no way safe, especially without her choice of weaponry. She bit her lip to refrain from making any comment about saving the poor chap but lowered her head all the same. He seemed confident enough in his capabilities; he had probably been through worse.
"So... why are we coming back here, anyway?"

"I have something to drop off," Jack said looking out over the sea again, his eyes near blank. He silently wished for his mother, that maybe for once in his life he might seek advice from her, but where was she? If not here, then where? His eyes flickered in anger ever so slightly before he looked down to Tessa with a smile.

"It shouldn't take long love," Jack said while his mind hoped.

"Some...thing?"
Tessa didn't need to think about Jack's answer for any amount of time to draw her conclusion. In having heard this before, she knew already Scarlett was involved - and more than likely to be on the receiving end of this particular volatile move. She backed away a step and began to piece together everything that she knew and had heard of the woman.
"For the love of the sea, Jack. She broke you out of that cell on the Company ship, saved your life and altogether had been in the position I live in now until I had come along, so now you're going to leave her where her most optimistic fate is more than likely to be her death? I'm sorry, but can you at least show some mercy, even if you are going to get her killed?"

Jack blinked twice before considering an answer before relying rather simply, "I am not killing her myself, now am I?" Jack asked, his voice rather soft even with the volume it withheld, and it was a truthful question. He returned his gaze to the horizon, his gaze darkening significantly and his grip on the railing tightened again, leaving his knuckles white. "Although I cannot deny her father will be one to deal with after this," Jack muttered under his breath, whatever satisfaction that he had looked forward to leaving him. "Even still, if she cannot leave the past behind she must be left behind with the past," He murmured.

"Jack!"
Tessa dropped her head back and clenched her fists. No doubt if Jack had been the one to kill Scarlett it would be either worse than if they had simply dropped her off, or otherwise gruesome in more ways than the Half-Elf dared to think of, but she cast a wary glance behind her and back to Jack, before she simply held out her hand.
"Give me a weapon, Jack. I'll do it myself, if only because I know something of mercy. We can leave her corpse, if you so insist."

"No!" Jack said sharply, before his voice softened, the fire that all at once had appeared in his eyes was extinguished. "Her death will be my guilt alone," Jack said. "She has very little to do with your past, be thankful," Jack said, placing hands on the sides of Tessa's arms for a moment, looking at her seriously before moving past her, jumping up to the thicker part of the railing and leaned out, holding onto the rigging as he did so. "Can we not coax more speed out of these winds Mr. Porter?" Jack asked, and the crew master bustled about the deck.

Tessa did not move, did not show any deliberate outward sign that she had even percieved Jack's response and issued command. After several seconds she simply turned her head to watch the commotion about her, and her shoulders dropped slightly. He had his heart... yes, she had convinced herself that Vampire or no, he still had the capacity for such emotions as best expressed in relation to the heart, she decided - set on his choice of action, and despite her efforts she could do nothing to oppose it. Her shoulders continued to sink at the thought.
After several more moments of troubled thought she dropped her head and retired to the cabin, wherein she sat at the table with an elbow resting on the surface and her forehead in her hand, reminiscing over what felt like nothing now, over trial and struggle with her comrades.
"Why, Jack..." She whispered, and barely even heard with her heightened hearing.

Jack stopped, motion ceasing except for the wind in his hair, His eyes closed before he moved towards the cabin. He opened them as he stood in the doorway looking at Tessa, catching a faint whisper of Tessa's question.

"Because I still love her, in a small, obscure way, and she sees that. She knows that if she can stir enough guilt, she can worm herself back into her old life, pretending that none of this happened, destroying you," He took a breath, even as it was unneeded, and continued. "She didn't come for me in the desert, you did. She didn't save me from that mistress of hell, she wasn't there when they took my ship. Whatever love I still have has been hidden under layers of pain that I do not want to uncover. I saw her die before me Tessa. That is not something that you forget," He looked back at Tessa, betraying the many layers of emotion in them. Pain, hurt, guilt, anger, they all swelled in his dark gold gaze.

"She won't stop until I am driven from you," He said, looking back towards the sea. "But I've hurt her too," Again his hand clenched at his side and he let it do so unchecked.

Tessa thought over his answer for a moment and nearly second-guessed her earlier choice to so practically elect vampirism entering into her life for Jack's sake. She looked up to him with a small measure of understanding in her eyes, and an greater amount of questioning.
"Jack, I understand retaining feelings. That's a lot of why I have been so solitary before... well, before I knew you would save my life. Still after three and a half months of being on that same island I can't help but feel you're being unnecessarily cruel about this. I can understand the depth of betrayal; believe me, I know a significant measure of that myself... but need she suffer before she dies? And besides, look at your own case," she lifted a hand to him in indication, "you survived, in a manner of speaking. Is there not the chance that Scarlett would as well, thus posing an infinitely worse problem for the both of us?"

"Suffer? She is a vampire Tessa, she will be given the choice to join the clan before she is killed. I just know she would never be happy living among them, the memories would make her turn against herself." Jack said, narrowing his eyes.

"And besides, if she does live, not saying she will, the vampires do not have ships, she would be unable to reach us," Jack said before turning away from the cabin and leaving, confliction finding him yet again. Even still, he seldom turned away from a goal, and this one he intended on seeing through to the end. Standing at the railing, leaning over, Jack closed his eyes, trying to forget the world for a while. His thoughts still though were dark and stormy, and he knew that anger towards Tessa would only worsen the situation.

Tessa sat there for a long moment, confused. Jack had seemed more and more uptight over the single situation, and she had rarely come across any who could possibly measure up to his adamant will, so with a resigned sigh she dropped her back against the chair and surrendered the thought. All she could do at this point was offer her prayers... but to who? All the gods and goddesses she knew of at all attuned to divinity were either dead or beyond her reach of will. A small wave of despair came over the girl as she retired to sitting against the side of the bed, with her growing trademark of wrapping her arms about her knees and staring down at her feet in silence.
