Part II
It was a fresh and busy morning in Rale. The usual venders had set up their stalls and shoppers of all shapes and sizes had began elbowing through the crowds. Jack had a slow start that day due to the activities that had taken place the night before, but he wasn’t about to lose any more of the day that was given to him. There were things to do and people to see. Above all, Jack had decided after last night, he was done with the late and dishonest nights at the Inn and today would be a perfect day to look for some honest work. Nothing fancy like an apprenticeship, just something simple, like hauling or heaving, but hopefully something to get him out of this darn town. There was nothing wrong with Rale, it’s just that Jack hadn’t seen much more of Outlandica then Rale and the edge of Liered.
As fate would have it, a huge ship of pirates docked in the middle of the night to rest and resupply. But word had it, that these pirates were also looking for new members for their crew. Jack knew he hardly had any pirating skills, but he could be a boat-hand and help with any labor they needed. Then they just might take him somewhere across the sea to some unknown land.
When Jack got to the docks, he was very wary. Although bands of pirates often sailed the nearby waters of Rale and were known to leave the inlands mostly alone, they still could be dangerous.
Jack approached the ship with caution. “Hello”, he halfly yelled. “Ahoy ther’!” Jack jumped at the boisterous voice behind him. “Wat be yer business with me?” Jack answered, “I heard you was looking for crew.” “And wat be it to ye if we was?” “Well, I was thinking I might join.” “Ye might?” “I do; provided you aren’t the horribly violent sort and could use someone like me.” “Does ye ‘ave any skill with a sword, boy?” “Other then holding it, no. Not really.” The Pirate sneered. “But I could help be a boat-hand, sir. I could help with hoisting and carrying and cleaning; whatever you need.” The pirate stepped closer and glared at Jack. “Wat be yer name?” “Jack. Jack Hoyster of Rale.” “Well Jack, I suggest ye get sum sleep tonight, fore she sets sail early tomorrow morning”, he said gesturing to the ship. “Then sir?” Jack asked, encouraged. The pirate grinned, “Aye. Welcome aboard me ship.”
Jack had no idea what he was getting himself into.
