I don't know if this has been done in this thread yet and I'm sure a few of you might get annoyed that all I've been doing is harping on about this, but here's my new annoyance: Original characters that are actually modified versions of canon characters.

When you don't get into a fandom until after the original source material is complete over and done with and the fandom is basically dead. You're all hyped and super into it and everyone else is just "meh, yeah that was way awesome like a year ago I didn't think anyone even remembered it now".

When you're super-hyped on a new fandom and your OTP is like heroin for you but you can't find a single satisfying ship fic for them.

When authors mislabel their stories. For example, posting a crack!fic and not saying either in the summary or in an author's note that the story is indeed a crack!fic. I suppose it only bothers me because that's a type of story that I have no interest in reading and I'd rather not get suckered into clicking on one.

Would it still be considered crack if they author thinks they're taking it seriously? I've posted fics that later people have called crack and I was totally serious about.

For me it's usually fairly obvious when the story is serious/the author is taking the story seriously. I've no idea how anyone would think your story was a crack!fic, though. In my experience, those feature OOC and a flimsy plot line that's so far removed from anything that could be considered canon. Perhaps... the people who made those comments were just joking, simply misunderstood the direction of your story, or they were feeling envious of your writing (although I usually despise the latter assumption, it's true far too often)?

When the summary of an M-rated fic is something along the lines of "This is just smut. I don't know what to say but it's just smut." I think, yes, yes I know this is smut, but what kind? rofl
I think this falls in with Kunoichi's pet peeve about the whole "I suck at summaries" faux pas.

Not something that authors do, but when readers discredit you as an author because you don't write your characters to behave exactly like the reader. For example, getting reviews along the lines of "If it had been me I would've..." and so on, in which the reviewer rips apart a character because the character isn't a carbon copy of the reader/reviewer.

This is also a behavior that… I don't wanna say "annoys" me, but it does disappoint me. I understand that a lot of readers are going into the archives looking for fantasy fulfillment and want to live vicariously through the characters. So they are gonna look for stores where their favorite character has a portrayal that is similar to themselves. That way its easier for them to step in and "become" that character while reading. (This is also why a lot of the larger/more popular fandoms are plagued by OOC.) So, while I don't like it, I can't really fault them for it because I understand. I try to just ignore reviews like that (unless they contain legitimate feedback).

I just came across an author who demands reviews in every author's note, which is a pet peeve that I've mentioned before. However, their story is great and they aren't exactly hurting for reviews, but I find it kind of funny since they did the whole favorite/follow to me and my story but didn't review anything. Why do people do that? Demanding reviews but not leaving reviews themselves? I laughed and laughed. talk2hand

I want to know why people keep reading a story when all they have to say about it is how terrible it is or how much they disagree with everything that's happening in it. I mean, if you think this story is so horrible, why are you even still reading it? Is somebody making you? Why don't you just close the tab and go read something else?

Authors holding updates as "hostages" if they don't get so-and-so number of reviews/likes/favorites.
Using the same phrase over and over again. I once read a Helsing fic and the author must've used "S/he couldn't help, but..." in every other paragraph. The sad thing is I think it was about 15+ chapters and I stuck around until the end reading those same words in every. Single. Chapter. emotion_facepalm
