Al reared up, stepping closer to Noah's body. He raised Nuru high in the air. "Why did... you... KILL me?!" his voice was slow as he spoke, rambling and confused, before it turned up at the end, louder and demanding to know. Why did someone he trust so much infect him, sentence him, all that love and patience for a butcher's blade in his back.
Except.
There was nothing in his back.
Rep's commands rung throughout the mall, like an alarm call, Al suddenly stopped. He was finally awake.
He slowly lowered Nuru and peered around in slowly dawning confusion. It hadn't yet occurred to him what had happened as he glanced around at the battlefield that was once the quiet little camp from what felt like seconds ago.
Another thrashing tentacle, and Jerry gave a grunt as he rolled into a steady crouched position. They were ready to go, he could feel Roar thrumming with Fear, the ringing in his ears thankfully blocking out the underlying human moans of the creature ahead of them. Still he could hear the build up of energy, the growing ball of light in Roar's throat just ahead of him from his purch on his shoulder.... Aim steady. There were plenty of fellow hunters laying wounded around him, they needed the backup.
"AWOOWOOWOOWOO!" Jerry howled, his rather unimpressive battle cry thankfully drowned out by Roar's own as it ripped it's way at the monstrosity.

"I didn't, I - " Noah took a cautious step back, trying not to panic and failing utterly. It was the infection. It had to be. Wasn't it? "I don't understand," he repeated plaintively, still holding Laz in front of him defensively. He didn't think he could hold Al off much longer, and he didn't think he could knock him out, and the thing clawing at the barriers had everyone else's attention, and rightfully so.
There was a sudden swell of chattering voices, and then an earthshaking extended rumble that made him stagger, and as the beast battering at the barricades crumpled, something much larger burst up and out and into the mall, devouring the remains of the other zombie almost offhandedly. Its voices were human and horrifying, and its eyes looked at them with blank hunger, and there was no way that Noah could get to it to hit it, and anyway he was shaky and weak and Laz's shield was a thin and fragile thread, and Al --
Noah's attention snapped back to Al, expecting to see Nuru coming down at him to take advantage of his distraction. But Al was lowering his weapon, looking around in a daze, and most importantly, not attacking. "A-Al?" Noah asked, tense and uncertain.

Al's attention snapped back to Noah at the sound of his voice. He smiled, not yet noticing the look on his face, "Hi Noah!" Then, noticing it, drooped instantly, "What's wrong?"
Yes there was a massive creature right there going apeshit, but Al had a certain set of priorities.

In what felt like the span of only a few blinks, several waves of nasty nearly overcame her--first the infection making her rankle at how Lex and Horace had run off (and in the former's case gun and run), then the sight of the large barricade monster snapping the laughing zombie up, and finally the sickness leaving in time to be replaced by the sight of a gigantic boss-sized one.
"Brilliant," Nora muttered, light-headed from it all.
Shaking her head, she quickly bent over Tommy's prone form and helped him up, numb hands slick with water and sweat. Could the zombie apocalypse have the courtesy to finish faster? "You alright, Italian Stallion?" she asked, then scoffed. "Idiot question, forget it, none of us are. Best we get to camp and see what we can do against that...." She trailed away, unsure of what word to use for their new opponent.
Leading the way back to camp (keeping their pace quick in spite of their recent injuries because no more thank you kindly), she ducked through some debris and rubbed at her wound self-consciously as she eyed the monster. Much too far away to attack even if she could get through the mess it had made bursting up. Spying Lex, she readied her hammer and approached.
"All better now, mate. No thanks to you," she couldn't help but add a little pointedly.
Aim for the eyes? Easy. No close combat here, no punches to throw or kicks to dodge. Just a mass of tentacles and a promise of nightmares to keep him awake at night, digging fingers into Ami's supple flesh. Lex took aim, firing once, twice, three times, before a tentacle slipped passed the guard of the larger than life woman who he'd abandoned just moments ago and struck him, serving him right.
A grimace as given to Nora, then an apologetic look. "Glad you're alive - not that I could do anything to help." Relief seeped through his voice and posture even though his words bit at the end, grip on the pistol becoming less tense and his eyes not so hollow. One woman's blood was not on his hands. "And Tommy?"

Camp, bandages, then they could run in at the - Violet eyes widened as Lukas ran past him then Gretchen. His mouth opened but snapped shut abruptly as the woman called back to him. ******** hell. But instead of protesting the dark headed man called out before rushing to the camp, "just be careful you idiots." A little shred of his humanity showing, thank god for the dark that hid rose stained cheeks. Hitting the camp Cain loaded down the inside pockets of his life coat with supplies. A glance and he picked up where Lukas and Gretchen has settled, his new job was to aid them and he would do it.
Just as the life trainee was heading over his feet stilled to the sound of the beast letting out a plaintive and pitiful cry. Was it over? Had they won? No it was to easy, things were never that easy. Cain's grip tightened around his weapon and Jojo glowed a little bright before dimming back down, still holding a charge. Gaze settled on the beast and then widened as called to something that after a moment responded. The noises, sounds of children, people alarmed Cain, freaked him out enough to tremble lightly against his weapon. ******** scary, creepy a** kids and whispers, exactly why he hated foreign movies. As if that hadn't been enough the ground started to shake, that though snapped Cain back. Steadying his feet he growled though the sound was easily drown out as another roaring beast emerged and made the hunters ears ring with its call.
When it ate the first beast Cain knew it was time to move, his body kicking into fight to flight. A quick flicker of eyes and Cain was moving towards the hunters he had paired with in the start, though in doing so watching the others as they attacked. Some seemed to be doing utterly nothing and Cain wondered why, maybe they hadn't been hitting it in the right spot? Maybe its armor was to thick, maybe. As he reached the two hunters Cain reached out grabbing them each by the shoulder and calling a little loudly do to his ears still ringing, "rep, said ranged to try for the eyes," Cain paused and looked at Lukas trying to remember if he was ranged but a little rattled from his hearing being off, "anyways! Back the ******** up, hits are bouncing off of it and you two knuckle heads are in the danger zone and I'll be damned if I heal you under a ******** paw." He tried to gently pull them back while frowning but after a second releasing and backing up himself while commenting, "I have bandages, do either of you need them?" A hand lifted and he grabbed his nose, cheeks puffing as he tried to pop them for some relief.

Life Trainee - 1 extra use of a runic - In addition to your own, cleared for all level 1 runics for this mission. (whether you’ve unlocked them or not) Melee Weapon: Melee weapons are super effective against ARMOURED type infected, do double damage on this type
Stage 2 - Climb the body and fasten runic chains Speedy - Everyone else should heal or defend
The attacks on the eyes seemed to do their job, the enormous beast twisted and writhed as the green glinting lights went out, leaving it blinded and furious. It thrashed, smashing its jaws off of ceiling, walls and camp alike and rattled out its fury at the tiny things who refused to succumb or become part of its larger superiority.
Its tentacles also swung and struck out at those on the ground, but this time slower, less co-ordinated.
The assault on the eyes had provided enough time for harpoons to be brought through the portal, of the sort used on the island to attack the titans which had formerly been a threat there. It was these that those with nimble weapons had to dig into the vulnerable spots on the creatures hide. First they had to get up there, then it was a matter of making it stick.
Roll 1d8 to be launched up to the back of the beast, if you get anything but an 8 you make it. Then attack as normal for as long as you like.
Mechanics
HP: ???/??? AD: 5 IMMUNE TO ALL DAMAGE BUT SPEEDY/LIGHT
Speedy weapon users - You do double damage to the boss this round and you can use your fear charges multiple times in succession, so long as you have the health and charges to do so.
Everyone else - The healing mechanics from the camp can be applied to ranged attackers or your own personal bandages.
Things had taken a turn from bad to worse, one minute they where fighting the same mindless beast that had been trying to bust through the barriers and instead it was replaced by some giant serpent the twisting mass of bodies slipping through the ground like a hot knife cutting butter. The call to ranged hunters went out and a salvo of shots from every kind of weapon around went of pushing the beast about. All Roland could do was stand by and watch.
That was until they brought out the Titan gear, harpoons, launchers, the whole works. It only took a moment, but Roland was able to get himself settled into the gear harpoon in one hand and Sylvia in the other. "Launch!"
Seconds later he was screaming through the air, soaring up to the third level of the mall and arching at the peak of the jump, flipping the harpoon up he gave it a heave slamming it into a soft spot on the serpent back before hauling himself in.
"SECURE!" Attached to his lodged harpoon Roland looked around the mass of withering flesh and corruption he stood on shivering quietly at the suffering mass. "I'm sorry... if you all are still in there... but we gota do this." He raised Sylvia turning towards the first withering body reaching towards him.
The sound of many voices in the distance, and the whole building rumbled and shook. Jordan backed off as the footing grew uncertain, bracing Ferros against the floor and waiting for the instability to pass --
-- and something snapped silently inside his head, the thick barrier between himself and his weapon and his own thoughts melting away in an instant. Reason and recognition came flooding back into his eyes, and the chill predatory stare gave way to a look of horror. "Oh, <********>" he said. "Horace? Jesus. Are you okay? How badly did I hurt you?"
I'm sorry, he said to Ferros, shaken by what he'd done and thought.
If it happens again I'll try to warn you, Ferros answered, still upset and angry, but forgiving, too.
I'll try to listen, Jordan promised in return, contrite.

He wasn't exactly sure how he had ended up hitting Lex and Horace both with his charge instead of the intended target (which, at least, had been struck as well) but he knew that he didn't feel bad about doing it. No, instead he felt something quite the opposite, vindicated in his actions as though they had definitely been the right thing to do. Something about them set him completely on edge. They weren't his friends. They weren't people he could trust. They would turn on him at any moment.
Or run away. That's what Horace did the moment the laughing monster was snapped up by something bigger and even more gruesome. Of course he ran. Why would he stay?
And then a moment after that, a gun shot, one that rang in Tommy's ears as pain exploded in his middle, and he crumpled to the ground.
"I...knew it..." he hissed, but even as he said it, it didn't seem right anymore. They were good people. He had fought with them. Whatever was fogging his mind lifted, and he struggled to stand, finding Nora there to help him.
"I..." He shook his head. "I am sorry, Bella. I do not know what came over me." He admitted, before glancing back towards the base where.
Oh......well s**t.
The giant monster that appeared was given a wide eyed expression of awe before he loped along with her, catching up to where Lex stood a moment later. He did not really know what to say to the man, and instead focused on the problem at hand, until some new orders came in that had the Italian's face brightening.
"I am feeling much better now, and I think I will go up there." He gestured to the broad back of the beast, his face splitting into a grin.
"I will be back. Hopefully." He tacked on the last with a wink, before he was running off towards one of the launchers, ready to be sent through the air and into combat.
And for some reason, he couldn't have been happier or more excited.
Noah's attention wavered between Al and the monster as he spoke, and his wary look remained. "Al? Are you - are you feeling like yourself again?"
Laz rumbled wetly in his mind. There had been a surge of Fear as the monster surfaced, a wash of ambient energy that had helped to restore their shield, so they weren't in such dire shape any more, but he was still suspicious, bristling.

"What do you mean?" Al asked, before following Noah's glances over to the monster. This time the rest of the world becoming painfully apparent. He noticed people being launched at the downed creature and considered his options a moment. "Hang on," he whispered distantly before looking back at Noah. "Maybe we can discuss it after that thing is dead.... Feel up to flying?"
"You don't remember?" Noah asked, a little hesitantly. But he moved to get more bandages out of one of the storage boxes. "Do you think we can get up there, or should we be working on healing people?"
