He got the impression someone was chuckling a very dark chuckle, and watching every move he made.
But maybe that was just the effect of the awesome book under his arm.
The awesome book that... was... complaining?

And you completely ignore the more important fact that I lack a nose. Or any olfactory equipment... The book sighed dramatically. I'm stuck up there for only the cobwebs know how long, and I finally get picked up! By...! An idiot! My luck...
