Some of you know I was raised Baha'i (it's a religion) but don't really believe in it and wouldn't call myself Baha'i anymore.

I've never officially told my mom (or anyone other than my sister) that I don't feel like a part of that religion.

But she knows I don't go to the events here.

She keeps sending me info and talking about all the Baha'i stuff going on in her community, and she keeps asking about what's going on here. And she went on pilgrimage recently and sent me a necklace she got there with some Baha'i symbols on it...

*sigh*

I don't know what to do. I know I should just tell her, but it's more complicated than that.

I was raised Catholic, but the past few years I've been an atheist. I told my mom about a year ago. All she did was call me stupid and blame it on my "ignorant and naive" age. I don't know if you could base anything on that considering we have different mothers and you're older than I am. She'd probably just think you're stupid for thinking differently. I think people that don't think like me are stupid sometimes too. =P

She wouldn't think I'm stupid. She'd think she failed. She'd be heartbroken. That's why I can't tell her. And I am really glad I was raised in that way.

Hm... Well you could tell her that she guided you well.

¨*:·..·:*¨

I understand how that is. I was raised Christian, and while I don't always go to church/do everything I'm supposed to, I still would say that I am a Christian...just not the greatest one. When I decided that I refused to go to church any more, and told my mom, she cried and told me that she didn't want me to go to hell. Not that she thinks not going to church=going to hell, but she didn't want me to "stray so far off the path" that I became a bad person. I think parents need to realize though, that even though you raise your kid in a direction, they don't always follow that when they go on their own way. They kind of have to do the best they can in instilling good values and then hope that their children fall back on the core of the beliefs when on their own. I think it might help your mom if you let her know that--that even though you might not be a " Baha'i " that the person you are today was only possible because of the upbringing that you had with it. I'd reassure her that you ARE glad you were raised that way but that your beliefs have kind of strayed (maybe not the right word to use) to other beliefs. Maybe if you explain to her why you feel like Baha'i isn't right for you, she will be more understanding; less heartbroken.

Hope that helps a little neutral

I know how that is. My mom raised me Christian but I don't really feel Christian and I know if I was to tell her she wouldn't think I was dumb or anything but think that she didn't do a good enough job.

Well, follow what feels best to you.

I wasn't necessarily raised very religiously, but I've attended Catholic pre-school, elementary school and high school. I was very active in my parish for a while as an altar server, etc. etc.

After a while, I got really tired of it. I stopped going to church, etc etc.

I'm still not a very active participant, but I realize that it was a large part of my life for so long that I miss now.

Take as much time as you need, you may realize that you want to go back, and if not, then I hope you have a good experience and are happy no matter what you want to do.

I have nothing against the religion. I just dont believe in God so that kind of rules out calling myself a believer in the Baha'i Faith. I don't want to be a hypocrite and take the name of something that I'm not.

the reason I can't move to my father( other than the fact that he is a manipulative maniac xp ) is religion, he simply wont believe me when I tell him I'm absolutely not christian. he tells me I'm just as christian as he is.

but I think the most important thing will be, not to lie to oneself about these things. I tried to push myself to be christian, but it wasn't right for me, I'm happier now that I've accepted my own belief.

I'm officially excommunicated from the catholic religon, and have been since I was 6 or 7. I bit the nose off a nun and got kicked out of a catholic elementary school. In my defense, she was scarry, I was in pain and she literally was so close her nose bumped my in the eye before I bit it.

My little brother is still in high school but he refuses to follow Christianity like my parents. My mom tries to push him back to the religion but she doesn't shove it down his throat.

"I lay my life down at Your feet
Cause You're the only one I need
I turn to You and You are always there....

I am a Christian, and I'm quite happy this way.
However, both my Dad and my Granddad rarely go to church, we're concerned for them.

...In troubled times it's You I seek
I put You first that's all I need
I humble all I am all to You"
