Soranoko We have Caller ID, but it usually only says "Unknown Name" when we try to check it. Thus, we always have to pick it up. e_e I usually let my brother do it, since he's usually sitting right next to it. Yeah, see now that "Unknown Name" business pisses me off. I hate it when that happens and then I don't answer it. It's usually sales people. Too bad you don't have caller ID Skully. But I guess you guys just don't have it.

A couple years ago all unknowsn pretty much were salespeople. We knew from picking up so many times... Actually I think it said "Anonymous Caller" or somesuch. Well, we would answer the phone rudely as response to receiving so many rude phone calls, like when we're trying to eat dinner. I took it to extreme one night, by belching into the receiver and then hanging up. Half an hour later I found out the ear I burped into was my mother's father. sweatdrop

^ LOL. OMG. This lady called my cellphone about two weeks ago [I thought it was a friend's new number not in my phonebook because it was a different area code]. She asked me if I wanted to do a survey. I demanded [not asked] where she got my "private" number [which it is, duh]. She said that she obtained it from a check I used at Wal-Mart. [How in the hell did she do that when its not even printed on the check?!] So I bitched at her, saying that I would report her & that specific number to the higher ups [police, etc]. Hung up.
Right then and there, I registered mine AND Josh's cell numbers on that "no-call" list. Effective for 5 years. Yeah biatch.

I always answer my cell phone, but I check the number first. My dad still thinks it's important to say "hey, it's your father" after I answer "hey dad." He just doesn't get it.
I answer the house phone when no one else can. Usually someone else is home, but if not I answer in case it's someone saying "Hi, I'd like to offer your dad a job!"
I got one of those survey calls a few weeks ago. I told them I was on my way out the door and late for work, only answered the phone because I thought it was my manager(BS obviously). They asked when a good time to call back would be. I said "for me? never!" laughed and hung up. I heard the telemarketer laugh too, and I kinda wish she'd call back because she sounded cute.

At work, it's required to answer the phone razz
I try to answer my cell phone (i miss lots of calls because I don't hear it ring right away). I don't have a landline anymore. The message on my cell voice mail is a recording from an anime. it keeps people that misdialed my number from leaving messages

I only answer about half the time. Right now all we have is my cell, but there are just some times that I don't want to pick it up, especially when it's one of those days my mom calls six or more times. O_o I had a weird wrong number once, though. Someone called me while I was busy, but kept calling back. They actually called three times before I could answer it. The area code on the caller ID was the same as my sis lived, so I was afraid something had happened to her, but then the guy called again. I answered, expecting the worst, and he demands, "Is this a deli?!?" I was confused for a sec and answered rudely, "Uh, no." And hung up on him. Then I realized was my message was and laughed. "Thank you for calling Hannibal's Delicatessin, today's special is liver with fava beans. How may I serve you?" Hehe, that still makes me chuckle.

umaeril Ok, if the phone rings do you HAVE to answer it? Can you just ignore it and go on doing whatever you were doing? Or do you compulsively check it? Also, do you have a cell phone? Cell phones are kind of easy to check though because they all have caller ID so you know who's ringing you up. If the phone rings...I usually answer it. But if I just don't feel like getting up, I'll let the machine get it and check it in half an hour. As for the cell phone, I'm pleased to say that, yes, I have one. Finally. My sisters and I had a campaign going for three years to convince my folks to set up a family plan. I hardly bother to check the caller ID, though. I don't give out my number to just anyone, so anyone who does have it has good reason to be calling. Besides, I've assigned everyone their own ring tone, so I know who's on the other end just by the sound. biggrin

I only have a mobile phone. So what I do is check who is calling, if it is my father, I'll answer it. If it's anyone else, I'll just ignore it unless I have a good reason to answer
Last time I tried answering, it was a couple of my old friends inviting me to some party. They kept it up for quite a while, but after 3 calls of saying no and 1 text message I started ignoring like usual They haven't called me again since that

i usually never answer the phone when i'm home and someone else is, cause i can pretty garantee that the call isn't for me.. no one never calls me except my friend and that's usually on monday when we go out and stuff.. if i'm home alone i wont answer it either, unless i know for sure it's my dad.. we have a caller id, but at the moment the battery is dead in it and we keep forgetting to pick up batteries for it.. when it is working though, even people we know will sometimes come up caller unknown or unkown caller which irritates me cause we have to answer to make sure it's not the person we know, bill collector, or one of those annoying sales people.. but i usually never answer it, cause it's never for me..
my cell phone, not many people have the number.. the one's that have it our the one's i want to have it.. so if it rings i check and see if it's them or someone calling that i don't know.. on ocation i've gotten a few calls from people leaving voice mails that's intended for someone else.. i think they just dial the wrong number.. i've gotten a voice mail from someone telling me that the house is available and to call them back on there cell and if not call the office or so forth.. i know it's not for me, but i really feel bad and hope the people wanting the house get the call from them or find out.. i've gotten someone calling to tell me once that i wont a trip to the carabians and i just hung up on them.. im still not sure how that one came about, cause the person calling actually wanted me.. then when people who actually want to get in contact with me, they usually don't get me.. cause i never hear my phone ring or they call when i'm at work and i miss the call.. when i'm at home i don't get service so it's just never on there.. most of my friends don't have my home number, so they try getting in contact with me from my cell number.. i'm not sure why i've not given them all my home number, if i did i might get more phone calls..

coz i'm lazy and haven't read this page, phones with no built in screen can get caller id, at least here in the UK. you can buy a device, with a screen, which you plug in between the phone and the socket, or summat like that (my granny has one my granda was given, but they never used it, s I don't know how it connects.)
Oh, and I normally answer the phone. On Saturday at work (when I was silly and agreed to, and did, work a 16 hour shift, when the shifts are max 8 hours, and legally max 11hrs... I really needed the money.), the phone was ringing, and only managers are allowed to answer, but both of them had run outside the store to watch the student parade going by outside (lasting half an hour. As noone came in during this time, all the rest of the staff staying inside just stood watching from behind the tills. The phone started ringing, and rang for half an hour, as the managers decided they didn't want to, and so weren't going to, answer it. loved the fact they told the rest of the crew off for skiving during the parade...
And back to my point, I really wanted to answer the phine the whole time, but wasn't allowed to.

I have a somewhat amusing phone-related story to share. For over a month, this guy kept calling me on my cell phone, and I told him he had the wrong number every time. When I didn't pick up, he left long, unintelligible messages on my voicemail. Finally he figured it out - he was trying to call the area code that was the first three digits of my phone number, and the other number begun with the last four digits of my number, and since he wasn't using a 1 for long distance, I was automatically being called.
How likely is that?

I usually answer my cell phone with a remarkable regularity, whereas I completely ignore my house phone 99% of the time. Unless it's my parents calling.
funny cell phone story. I got two calls within two days from the same number. One at 8:43 in the morning, and one the next day at 8:30 pm. The people were like crazy Mexicans or something, because I couldn't understand anything they said. The first time I was like, "Hello?" all I got was "slkdfjldskjfjTRUCK?" and I was like "Wrong number." and hung up.
The second time I was asleep when they called, and I was like "Hullo?" "sldjfldjfjkljsslkdjf!" "Um, what?" "sdjlkflkdjs! who am i talking to?" "Uhhh." "sldkfjWHO AM I TALKING TO?!" "I think you have the wrong number." "Who am I talking tooooo? sdfkljsdfow!" "WRONG NUMBER. I am hanging up now." *click*
