Ok, if the phone rings do you HAVE to answer it? Can you just ignore it and go on doing whatever you were doing? Or do you compulsively check it?
Remember before caller ID? (Anybody remember that far back? sweatdrop ) Used to be you didn't know who was on the other end! Or you could let the "machine" get it.
Also, do you have a cell phone? Cell phones are kind of easy to check though because they all have caller ID so you know who's ringing you up.

Wait a minute, you can tell who's on the other end of landlines? The only landline phones I've seen where you can see who's on the other end are the ones with screens for e-mail/video. I only know two people with phones like that, everyone else I have ever met has to pick up the phone to find out who's calling.
Anyway, I always pick up the phone, I never let the answer machine get it.

Why do you pick up the phone Skully? Is it a compulsion?
And yeah...I think all phones here can tell you who is on the other end. o_O I mean, unless you buy a phone that doesn't, but who would do that?

We don't have caller ID, so we kinda have to pick it up.

How do you find out who is calling without picking it up?
Anyway, as for me picking up the phone, I just do because it might be important.

Even when I was living with my parents, I *never* answer the phone, even if I was the closest one to it. Why? Because none of the calls were for me. Nada. And then when I got my first cellphone at 17, that's when no one knew how to contact me besides my cell number.
For my cellphone, I do have certain ringtones for certain people. So if I hear a certain one, I ignore it & have my voicemail answer it. For example, when Josh & I first started dating, I had "Stairway to Heaven" only for him - so I'd get all "giddy" when I hear the song.
It's hilarious. My "now" friends... don't even know my home number. Not even Josh. (Unless my cellphone had a complete dead battery, I had no other way in contacting a friend, and they used their brain to store the home number into their phonebook).

The Skullmaster How do you find out who is calling without picking it up? Anyway, as for me picking up the phone, I just do because it might be important. It says it in the little window. Sometimes, depending on your phone, it will tell you out loud. It will say it, but I don't have one of those. My bf is like you Jenn, he never answers the house phone but he always gets his cell phone. >_<

I don't normally pick it up because I just assume my mom or sister would pick it up. That and no one normally calls me cause I'm usually in contact with most everyone through the net.
But with that said, if I knew I was home alone I'd pick it up not out of compulsion but because I hate leaving the phone ringing for an extended period of time razz

We don't have caller ID on our landline phone so I always pick it up. When getting calls on my mobile phone, though, I won't answer it if the number has been blocked.

I used to be a compulsary checker, but now I just let it ring! Calls aren't for me because the one person I know who would call me just uses IM if he wants to do something.

We have Caller ID, but it usually only says "Unknown Name" when we try to check it. Thus, we always have to pick it up. e_e I usually let my brother do it, since he's usually sitting right next to it.

I've got certain ringtones for different people as well... well, only for two people, a special one for my girlfriend and a special one for my dad... the rest of the time it is the same generic ringtone, and usually I will check to see who is calling and if I'm not busy, I will pick it up. Other times I will just let it ring so the caller can leave me a message... and if they don't leave a message, obviously they didn't have an important reason for calling!
