My parents are green well ten years ago they were. Totally cutting edge but that was when I was a kid and coming home and asking Why don't we recycle? Are their CFCs in the aerosol spray cans? Did you know that there's this thing called composting? And they do recycle, and reuse. But well the compost died and I feel like their no longer up to date or into it. So, before I leave to Europe not to return to the US (for political and economic reasons ie no work and fed up with Bush government lack of environmental and human interest wankers) Anyway, I'm putting together a sort of packet for her so she can get the program. I've printed out the information on hair care from here along with 10 basic ways to go green. I went to www.treehugger.com and printed How to Green You're Car, How to Green you're Garden. I printed out a thing on cleaning products but with no recipes. I realize that in printing all the paper I'm killing trees. I'm a horrible person. But I want to use these trees who I am very thankful for to educate my parents. and bring them kicking and screaming into this century.
I think I can sum it up with something that happend in May. My parents had gotten Lawn spray to make the lawn green and pretty and kill weeds. Obviously a pesticide. So, I asked my dad as he's spraying poison on his lawn. Is that a non toxic eco friendly spray? He said "I don't know? Why?" He's got a pond with fish and waterlillies next to him, and 2 cats who routinely eat this grass and he doesn't bother to check. I am justified in what I'm doing right?

I think so. You can also sign up for dailybite.com, which sends you eco-tips in your email once a day on regular business days (so no tips on weekends or Christmas, etc). You can get them to sign up (paper free, after all!) or forward them relevant tips.
A lot more people would "go green" if they just had access to options...the problem is there's not much access. You can print out those tips and make a little booklet for them. You can also be even more proactive and provide them with the options, eg buying your dad some green lawn fertilizer/pesticides for Christmas/birthday/Father's Day. Like ladybugs and aphids, for example. That way, they don't have to go any further than their own home or tool shed to hug the planet.
