I was reading through some of the proposed characters, and something struck me: Almost everyone is either an animal lover or some kind of biology scientist/biochemist. This made me think: who is going to play the volunteer angle?
Looking at it from an outside perspective, I don't see why a biologist would have any more valid of a reason to volunteer than anyone else. Would you have to be a robotics engineer to get a prosthetic leg? I would picture it as a drastically life changing event: the crazy thrill seekers like skydiving instructors would be more likely to volunteer, just so they can say they have done something few others have.
Also, I am going to laugh when we have enough biology PhDs on the island that we can have our own biology convention, discussing the plausibility of the transformation and other various details. At least no one will get sick xp

Yeah, it does seem quite implausible, really.
But, hey, people are people, and the Guild's still young. Who knows? Maybe these new recruits'll pull their acts together. I get where you're comin' from, though, brother; the problem is, people have quite a bit of free will in character creation, so there's really nothing we can do, short of instituting a "We have enough biologists, damnit!" rule.
And, honestly, what's the fun in that?
((By-the-by, people don't exactly... "Volunteer" to make their way to Taurica Nesos. At least, not if a certain two misanthropes do their jobs correctly. In reality, most people that end up there are targeted, mainly because of their loose ties to the rest of the world. If people were just showing up willy-nilly because they wanted to, Interpol would swoop in and count coup like a bad cliche.))
