......to ask someone who is considering joining the military, "do you think you would be able to kill someone?" ?????

i think that the only people who should be allowed to ask would be in this order:

*your recruiter
*your DI
*other people in your bootcamp
*your parents

and that you HAVE to answer the 1st two....the last two optional.....

am i right? is it rude for someone who finds out you wanna join to ask "jeez, could you kill someone?"

my problem is, im a 16 year old girl, i wanna enlist next May when i turn 17 in the USMC.....if i was in danger, i WOULD kill somebody........but does anybody really wanna hear someone like me say, "yeah, if i had to, i'd kill somebody."

i mean honestly, what the heck should i do??

I dont think it's a matter of right. I think the only person who NEEDS to ask that question is yourself

also since your considering the Corps i would suggest checking out www.grunt.com/forum This is a fantastic site for Marine poolees to gain information about anything they want and need to know about the Corps

well, given that there's freedom of speach, yes, a civilian has every right to ask.. but in the same, you also have every right to ignore their question.. don't worry about what others think about it, if you feel its something that's right for you, just do it.

Well, be proud that you're joining the marines!

And yes, somebody said, you don't HAVE to answer, if you don't feel the need. Usually people who ask that are insensitive, and unthoughtful.

I think it would be rude for a civilian because chances are, a civilian will never have to kill somone due to their job. They don't have to face that on a day to day basis. We do. I know that somewhere either in my career or in my MOS, that I will eventually have to kill somone. I've made peace with it. But some still believe that they will never have to. I think that makes it harder for them to do what they have to, when it comes down to it, to save themselves and their comrades. My husband didn't hesitate and it saved 5+ other military wives a funeral.

i wouldnt think its rude but it isnt the sort of thing you should ask. The military is brought up arround the "Kill or be killed" saying. not saying they all do but no one should ask things like that. its kinda like when a military person comes from Iraq and someone asks them how many people they've killed. Its hard enough for them to go there for 6+ months

ok, first off, congrats on the choice of the Corps. second, when i went through boot, my SDI told us this... "You won't really be able to explain how you feel or what it's like to civillians when they ask you about it because they just wont' understand. they haven't been through it." you DONT have to answer the question at all, but if you choose to, then just tell the truth. you are defending freedom, your self, and more pertinent to the question, the right for them to ask such a question and have what ever opinion they may have to your response.

tips on boot. take everything with a grain of salt. the DI's arent' always telling the truth. but most importantly, have fun.

good luck, gods speed, and semper fi! OHH RAH

If it meant my life I would. I'm a female in the Marine Corps. If you have any questions about it just ask.
