Is it always better to buy the most expensive guitar @ the music store. For example, me nd my dad were @ the store i normally deal with, and he saw a $949 Fender Strat, and i found a $499 Strat. The only difference where it's made. Mexico(499) and the USA(949) Is there really any difference?

In general quality:
USA > Mexico > Indonesia and other places.
Unless you're a hardcore constantly-gigging musician, the Mexi one will do you perfectly fine.

MIA Strats have higher quality wood, higher quality control, better stock pickups, better trem, etc.
The difference between the two is up to you. You need to play both of them to see for yourself.
I've played a MIA and a MIM Strat, and heard/felt virtually no difference.

Generally the MIA is considered the better quality, but prices often don't mean s**t. You have to play many guitars before finding that one good one, as quality varies (especially Gibson's Les Paul). Play then both and dabble on some others before making a decision.

I've played both, and I really can't find much of a difference. The only thing I noticed is that you're paying nearly $600 more for an extra fret (just change the fretboard if it bugs you not having one more fret, that's why they're detachable), better pickups (you can just change the stock ones to whatever kind you prefer), and a slightly different tremelo bar. I'd just go with the MIM one. They're cheaper, and you'll feel alot less guilty modifiying it.

Yeah, Gibby LPs often have slightly poor quality checks by comparison to Fenders. I personal prefer LPs to Strats, but you really need to play the instrument beforehand. Especially with LPs, as Rose said.

Due to the fact that I play exclusively Ibanez, I have nothing to add to this conversation... except Only take the USA Strat if you're already a pro.

This may sound weird, i just picked up a Squier Frank Bello signature Jazz Bass and i compared it to a standard Jazz bass (mexico) and i couldn't find any major differnce in sound.

I tried out two Fender Standard Telecasters...one made in Mexico and one made in America. Which did I buy? The Taco Tele. Not only was it a hell of a lot cheaper, but in regards to sound it was extremely difficult to tell the difference. Plus, I just had more money to customize it exactly to my liking. It's always nice to have your own unique, personalized instrument.
