OK, I play Bass with a pick. I've had several people just randomly and rudely say 'You don't play the bass with a pick!' It ticks me off. I prefer the sound of a pick to fingers when I play, just because I like the sharper sound. Is it really that much different if you play the bass with a pick instead of using your fingers? (Beside sound.)

If found more comfortable to play with my fingers.. it's like making super fingerpicking on guitar xD!!! But.. i believe using fingers makes you faster,i wouldn't know, it's not my main instrument sweatdrop

I switched to pick from fingers, just because after practicing for an hour my fingertips were bleeding....I have delicate fingers.... sweatdrop Curse them.. THough I have fun looking for cool looking picks. I had a glow in the dark alien pick, but I lost it... :/

I personally prefer the sound of a bass being played with a pick more often than being played finger style. It's all just a matter of personal preference, really. Just tell the people bitching to go ******** off, you can play however the hell you want.

The pick does give off a sharper sound. The tone it produces is much more pronounced compared to the deep tones of the fingerpicking. I prefer pick usage, most of the time anyway. But I am not a bassist. I've only played a few times.

It really depends on your personal preference and the style of music your playing in. For example, you wouldn't use a pick (or, really, an electric bass at all...) if you were playing jazz music, but, if you were playing in a speed metal group, you'd want your sound to be more pronounced and sharper.

It all depends what sound you want, really. You get a warmer sound from fingers, and a sharper sound from picks, I guess. Some styles are better for fingers, others for picks. I play with a pick mostly because I'm a guitarist, but sometimes play with my fingers. I prefer a sound right in between sharp and warm, but more to the warm side. gonk

some people are just stupid, ignore them. Play however you'd like.
But I will say that if you dedicate a little of your practice time to playing with fingers or other styles besides your main (pick), you will become a better player, no question about it. Even if you don't use your fingers all the time, it's nice to know you can.

There's nothing wrong with using a pick, really.
The only thing I would think of as a downfall would be playing speed. I, myself, use three fingers when I play (index, middle, ring) so I can play more notes quicker. So a pick can slow you down.
Since you're using a pick, popping and snapping shouldn't be in your style of play, so that shouldn't be an issue.
All in all it just goes with what you prefer. I like fingers, you like pick, it's all good.

I personally play bass with a pick. I am able to play like slap and sue my fingers but it is just uncomfortable. I mainly play punk and metal so the pick just gives me a better sound but once again, it depnds on your preference and what you're comfortable with.
