My first choice perfession that I'm wanting to persue is a tatoo artist. (Part of the reason why I asked to join) I've been looking around for tatoo shops that do apprenticeships so far I haven't had all together much luck. Some of the things that I wanted to know is what is required and what is advised to take to get the job. Any bit of honest info will help.
Thanks,

Rikku~

I would suggest you go to college and get a degree in art. That will prove that you have some skill. Then you can make yourself known to some tattoo artists and ask for an aprrenticeship.

Art school is not really needed. Do build a portfolio and just learn as much as you can from real professionals. If you want to go to school after say your apprenticeship is over, I am by no means discouraging that. It will be very difficult to pay student loans while you are working for very little in the beginning of your career. Also, skin is a very different medium than most expect, so art school will help you with your art, but will not apply to tattooing very well. Find a respectable person who can be your mentor. Oh and good luck!

Art school is not NECESSARY, but it certainly helps. Just start hanging around a shop you like and ask questions. Form a loose friendship with a senior artist and then you could start inquireing about apprenticing. That way the artist is already comfortable with you and knows you're dedicated.

s**t i hated college, and I didn't pursue art in it anyway (tried learning stuff to get a 'real' job) and look where it landed me.

Tattooing is just a different artistic medium, just like painting, or sculpting, or whatever. Most people who can paint/draw, can't tattoo though. There are some really good technical tattooers who, on the downside, have no artistic talent.

Like jadedxkitty said, you just need to build up a portfolio and go to different shops in your area and start talking to artists about getting an apprenticeship. That is the biggest step you need to take.
