the second one is called yamamba,
the style is based off the look of a mountin witch, or something.

ganguro is suposed to be based off of black famous Americans.

freaky, no?

Don't forget the recent: Hime Gyaru.

There aren't any sites dedicated to hime gyaru except for Live journal, but this is a popular store among the princess gal look:

Ganguro is a sub-style of gyaru that consists of tanning and bleaching hair and wearing black/white make up. Clothing varies, but it was popular to wear neon sarongs and a flower (I can't remember which kind) in the hair. Kind of like Cali Beach Barbie. Ganguro is dying out and growing out of popularity.

And Gyaru is the Japanese way of saying: gal.

(sorry for double posting, I just wanted to quote after this person)

That picture you've got under yamamba is reeeeeeaaaaally old. No one dresses like that anymore. That style it out, out, out! Ganguro is dead, too!

These days more extreme gyaru go by manba or banba. Tans aren't orange anymore. Hair is neon and so are clothes. Definitely NO MORE STICKERS on your face. No way. You don't have to wear bright clothes, though. You can just be trendy. As long as your make-up and hair are good~.

Gyaru is a lot different from it's predecessor, ganguro.

Since photobucket is down right now, here is a youtube links:
Gals are this!

((I spent a bit of time wandering around the Western gyaru scene, so I've picked up a bit of info. ^^; If you can't already tell, I actually think manba/banba is really cute.))

Eh.. I think some kogyaru still wear the socks. Loose socks come in and out of fashion. But some parapara groups/gyarusa might dress up with loose socks as an outfit for their routine...

Usually when you see an older gyaru wearing loose socks, she's in a parapara event and it's part of her "uniform".

But yeah, in general, parapara is still REALLY big. It's a part of the lifestyle! You aren't gal if you can't para.

Haha! I want to play the para para dance machine, but the arcade in the indoor mall of my town closed down 4 years ago.

There are routines on youtube you could find if you wanna do that. There are no parapara machines around here. And I think all those don't have very trendy para? I'm not sure.

Gyaru is a broad catergory under which many sub-fashions live. Manba, banba, seremba, oniigyaru, oneegyaru, ganjiro, b-gyaru, baika, yanki, and there are probably some more that I can't think of right now.

Oh, and apparently yamamba is still a term in common usage. The picture up there is actually romamba, the "romantic" style of yamamba. No one does romamba these days.

Some gals are also wearing stickers again these days, but a lot less of them and they're not that puffy kind or anything.

This is something more like your current banba style:
