I need some advice on something..
I know I havent posted much, mostly because when I get to a topic I want to comment on, someone always says what I want to say. Hehe... But I suppose now its my turn for help. You guys probably get a lot of posts like this one. But...I personally dont know what to do.
You see.....I grew up without religion, and while it was good for the most point, I often felt empty, but when I got into Wicca.. it filled a void within me. The problem is Ive had this new job at Barnes and Noble Bookstore for over two months now. Religion, politics, never came up really when talking to people who worked there.. though there was some comments like "Dont wear satanists shirts to work" blah blah and one time one of the managers who hired me saw a book about wizards, "Wizardology" and said something along the lines of, "What a load of bull." Ive kept it mostly a secret at work because I dont want to be fired. These guys are professionals so... I dont know.
I have to turn in a copy of my school schedule so we can work around it, when I go back to school. And I was so excited to find a class in Anthropology called "Witchcraft, magic and Religion" I dont know if the teacher will teach it negatively or something, but I really want to take it. (hopefully, enough people will enroll and it wont get cancelled) and I will have to show this to them....
Maybe I am thinking too much about this. The problem isnt if I get fired...if I do, so what.. I just wont be able to walk into those doors again...And I love bookstores..
I dont know if anybody has anything to say. But I just need to tell someone...maybe even here I can get the courage to survive this.. if the worst happens.

Hm...
I think I've seen that Wizardology book. Is it a big, stiff book, with a gem-like thing on the cover, lots of pictures inside?
Never read it, mind you, but I see tons of books on all sort of subjects in the same fashion as that one.
It sounds like your employers are either sort of biggots, or they no nothing of true witchcraft. I'd say the latter of the two...
But, I suggest keeping it to yourself. If they somehow hear that you are a witch, then hopefully they will not jump to conclusions, and maybe you will get the chance to enlighten them on what it is.

A lot of the kids I see in the classroom have them and like to read them when they have freetime or during recess. Frankly, if it is getting children to read more and use their imaginations, I'm all for it. biggrin I also suggest keeping your religious preferences to yourself, unless you feel that it is better to get it out in the open, but, I certainly don't think everyone where you work goes about the workplace asking what their co-workers' religions are, so it's probably something you won't even have to worry about. Frankly, it's not really any of their business anyway, even if they DO ask. And, if they do fire you based on your religious path, you have grounds to sue them for discrimination, so I highly doubt they'd fire you and risk the lawsuit. heart

Well, to start a new rant:
Has anyone noticed the number of members in this guild who have never posted? eek
I feel really bad for you guild moderators, because i know you just recently cleared a bunch of people out for said reason. I just happened to be looking at the guild member information today and noticed a whole bunch of people who have never posted.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think these people aren't posting because they feel intimidated about posting here?

Lunai Well, to start a new rant (sorry, but I didn't want to start a thread on this, because I do consider this a rant): Has anyone noticed the number of members in this guild who have never posted? eek I feel really bad for you guild moderators, because i know you just recently cleared a bunch of people out for said reason. I just happened to be looking at the guild member information today and noticed a whole bunch of people who have never posted. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think these people aren't posting because they feel intimidated about posting here? actually we're not done w/ the clean out. that's why the notice is still on the main page. the list on word proccessor is about 8-9 pages long... w/ roughly 20-30 names to a page... i'm only half done right now. but sadly w/ working full time it's taking longer than it should. but really it's not that it's a huge pain in the butt... but it personally makes me sad that so many people join the guild & never post. or that they post a few times & are never seen from again. that's why we're removing people w/ 4 or less posts. but don't worry nobody that's knew will get removed. I made the list of members under questions back in may. & only the people on that list will be removed unless they now meet the requirments.

Speaking of books, last year I finished the SWEEP series by Cate Tiernan. I do enjoy her books, Balefire & Sweep series' were great, but it bothers me when people take those books as gospel and base their Wiccan beliefs around it. Inspirational as they may be, I'm bothered by their expectations to shoot blue electricity from their fingers. stressed Also, my pentacle pendant broke >_< Grr..

Well, may as well add to some of these rants....
On the note of people expecting blue lightning to come from their fingertips, I join you in your frustration.
Wicca is only partly about magic, and it's dominant purpose surround ritual, and positive things. Balance, dark and light, things of this nature.
Improving one's life.
Magic has its purpose, and one needn't wish to see lightning jump from their fingertips to believe in its power.
Today, for instance, I found myself visiting my mom, and while there, I became quite intrigued with her china cabinet.
I could feel intense energy coming from within it, but knew not what from.
There were a few objects in there that I like to call "power houses".
The strongest, however, was a little silver bell. Once I rang it, a ton of energy flooded over me, within me, and out.
I didn't see it, but feeling it proved how real magical energy truly is.
Besides, imagination is important in magic. If one wishes to imagine lightning from their fingertips, or sparkles, or whatever, it's all good.
So long as they don't truly expect to see it.
I think too many people join Wicca because they base it on magic, and on a lot of nonsense that has nothing to do with it.

Well-said, Rebel heart
I too think that there are a lot of people out there who decide they want to become Wiccan because they think they'll get similar results to ones they have read about or seen in the movies (i.e. lightening shooting from fingertips, levitating objects, etc.) A lot of those seeking to become Wiccan expect that they will be able to do things like this or think that Wicca is all about spell casting and magic and do not see the actual religious beliefs beyond the rituals and spell casting.
It's quite frustrating, isn't it? I think it's especially frustrating for those who are genuinely interested in following all aspects of the Wiccan spiritual path. Those who want to know and learn more about the relgion, but sometimes are ignored and/or shot down by others because they aren't taken seriously by other Wiccans who have been learning/studying/practicing for longer than they have.
Isn't it sad that we've come to a point where we're skeptical of anyone interested in Wicca and we have to ask ourselves whether or not they are serious about the path? heart

Isn't it sad that we've come to a point where we're skeptical of anyone interested in Wicca and we have to ask ourselves whether or not they are serious about the path? heart Thank you, and equally well-said, Lunai! ^^ It is sad that we have to do the "hundred questions" thing before we believe another to be genuinely Wiccan, but I understand why so many do. Many a fluff-bunny has entered our world, only to leave it upon realizing A) Wicca actually has religious beliefs, and a Rede that most Wiccans try to live up to (another words, some sort of rules, heaven forbid, that they should follow...never mind that it's not a horribly difficult or strict rule) rolleyes and B) Magic doesn't work the way it does in Hollywood. Many of them even go as far as to assume that magic is BS because something didn't happen immediately, which also goes to show people's attention spans these days. However, I don't like the elitists that still shove the "it takes a witch to make a witch" perspective down everyone's throats. These people contradict what Wicca is all about. Wicca isn't suppose to react the way people from strict orthodox religions do; it's suppose to be more friendly, and welcoming. After all, a Neophyte is still a Wiccan, just one whom is starting his or her journey. We were all there once, confused, mixing some stuff up, and even elders of the Craft are constantly learning new things. Life is a classroom, from which we learn, yet never quite leave. Once we do leave, if we haven't learned all we need to, we return. ^^

When I applied for the Air Force about 5 years ago, I couldn't mark a box like "athiest" or "Wiccan." I had to mark "Protestant Non-Denominational."
That's crap and I hate that the government will always be Puritan-based and thus Christianity-based and as long as the majority likes it that way, we're all doomed. (One God, One sexual preference, One Husband/Wife, One Way.)

I've always concidered myself open minded and I love the positive aspects of being such. so when I looked up media bias about wicca for a paper I could only read one article at a time because the closeminded, ignorant voicings of some people. same in all those hoax books about witch craft talking about saitan worship. I'm not even wiccan yet and it pisses me off.

Just to let you guys know I'm still alive so don't kick me out. You people are so cool! Anyway...
I have been so darn busy lately with chores around the house, medical type classes for my weight, helping my old parents with stuff. I don't really have time to do what I want to do like study more on Wicca, play video games, chat on forums like this online, etc. I am trying to keep positive though. I don't want to be sad all the time, I hate being sad. I want to be happy and bubbly like I see myself. Happiness is fun and good. (And my thoughts are usually skewed, but I like that too.)
