Sort of a casual thread that has nothing to do with healing, herbal or natural medicine, or anything except curiousity and interest! A simple thread to let everyone know where the others are (optional, of course!). It's also a good thread for beginners to post their "Hi, I'm new here, I'm so and so from such and such and I want to say hi!" posts. Keeps spam down in the main forum. Edit: Browsing, I found the posts in the "Welcome to the guild" thread, and I'd like to note that this isn't a replacement or a like-minded topic. This is more a place to tell about yourself that isn't guild-related, like to post *hinthint* PICTURES of yourself, or your kitty, or your kids, or your work, or whatever. ^-^
(It also makes it easier to find like-minded people in your area! heart )
I'll start: I'm Kyoki, I currently live in Florida, but soon we'll be moving up to Washington State, a few hours north of Seattle. ^-^ I have a menagerie of critters at home, including a husband, but no kids. (His Gaia name is Auronsama, but you'll never see him on here... I monopolize all the computer time! XD)
I started in herbal medicine after reading a series of books about a nurse thrown back in time (Outlander) and a series about a prehistoric society and a woman herbalist and healer (the Earth's Children series), and kept at it because I found it soothing, more than anything, to make these medicines and learn these things.
Who's next? ^-^

'Ello Everyone!
I'm Nicky, and live in northern Louisiana (not Cajun Country). I've got a menagerie of critters as well, including a boyfriend (hehe), several cats, birds, and reptiles.
I started wanting to know about herbal medicine after reading the Clan of the Cave Bear books MANY years ago, but I didn't persue it. Since I've found my way to a less staunch Christian belief, and begun to think that God(ess) has already provided everything we need, and that all these chemicals just aren't good for us.
I've done a few years of Living History for a job, and I think this has helped cement my naturalistic ways. There's nothing like gathering the walnuts to make your own dyed cloth, or spinning the wool for weaving your own bag and sewing your own clothes. biggrin
Right now I'm about to be an teacher, of High School Literature.

XD Mine was the "Outlander" books, by Diana Gabaldon. OH! I'm also a "staunch" Christian (XD love your choice of words), but I too believe that God has given us all we need to be healthy, if we would only look. I believe modern medicine has a place in our society (my little sister was born "blue" and is alive because of modern medicine) but I don't believe that pills are the answer to everything. ^-^

Amen, sistah!
Modern medicine has done WONDERFUL things. But I believe that when Jesus said that we will have the power to raise the dead, he didn't mean artificial ressitation. (I spelled that wrong, I think.) I think that we have other abilities that our technological surge has taken the place of, and working with herbs is one of them, among many.

Well, right now I live in Augusta Georgia but I don't like it that much. Until I was 13-14ish I lived in Maine and then we moved to Arizona. I really love Arizona. Someday my husband and I might go live there but I also thought Seattle wasn't bad and my husband would probably like living around there. My husband is from Gig Harbor, hehe, and his dad is a professor of political science at one of the universities up there. Maybe sometime when Patrick and I go up to visit with his family and friends, or if we ever actually live there, we can all meet up. I can't remember how I got into herbal medicine. I remember just always loving to play in the woods with my sister and I think that in our schools, when we were little, we were sort of encouraged to be interested in things like how maple syrup is made and how to make butter and all those sorts of things. (I can remember driving by places in our town where they had the buckets attached to the trees to collect the sap.) And my grandma was a really big gardener and she actually fed us dandelion greens and made her own jellies and pickled stuff sometimes. We also used to go pick buckets of blackberries for jam and my sister and I would pick wild blueberries and raspberries for our mom to make pies with when we were little. We used to go to orchards and pay to pick our own apples every fall too. Plus I actually spent a summer raking blueberries, and it was the best job I've ever had. Seriously. Anyways, I got a book on medicinal north american herbs when I was like 9 or 10 and since then I've had an interest although I haven't exactly been able to pursue it all the time. Having had crappy health a lot has encouraged me to pick it up again. I have little faith in modern medicine. Sure, it can save your life, but it can't keep you healthy.

Oh yeah, my name is actually Candace and people generally call me Candace. I used to be called Candy when I was younger but most of my friends stopped calling my that when one of my friends pointed out that Candy sounded like "a blond bimbo with big boobs," and she refused to call me it. I actually agreed with her so I've sort of put that behind me, though my family still calls me it a lot. It has always been funny to me though, that the friend who said this is blond and large breasted. (But I would never call her a bimbo.) lol

Hi everyone, I was glad to find out about & now be a part of this guild ! In real life I'm Tammy, a wife & mom of 2 boys up in BC Canada. I work as a CCA ( sort of like a nursing asssistant) and decided on the Gaia name of nurse_lady as when I was in my CCA course I had to wear scrubs & my friends all started calling me nurse Tammy as a joke cause I looked so goofy. I'm hoping to becme a chartered herbal therapist one day & am totally into herbs, natural & organic foods, organic gardening etc. I love cooking with herbs and have over 200 recipe books & some aromatherapy books if anyone is looking for a recipe. Cheers, Tam

Hi all
I am Jen, I am 29 and currently live in Metro Atlanta Georgia and have a husband and a new born baby boy. I have been into herbals for about 11 years now. When I was 18 I started looking into alternative religions because I did not feel like the christian church was for me. I met some wonderful people and began to study Wicca. My Coven is really into herbals and I have found that this is what I was ment to do. I believe that using nature's cures instead of modern medacine is what we were ment to do. I still recommend that people check with their doctors and use what is available but when I can is use herbals.
PS I read both the Outlander and Clan of the Cave Bear books. I think that the Outlander series is my favorite.
