Spawned in Paris, France on February 29, 1984 as part of an international art-project, KMFDM in the following years pioneered the crossover between techno/dance and metal with their signature Ultra-Heavy Beat. Moving to Chicago in 1990, KMFDM was the pride of Wax Trax! Records during the label�s peak. Rapidly evolving through intense musical exploration and touring; the band has since redefined themselves year by year with each new release.
Over the past one-and-a-half decades, repeatedly moving Headquarters from Chicago to Seattle to NYC, and back again to Seattle, Sascha Konietzko's revolving band of misfits have stood the test of time. The rotating cast of KMFDM was at times joined by members of Skinny Puppy, Ministry and R.E.M., as well as by legendary punk-rock diva Nina Hagen. Currently helmed by the dual vocal attack of the band�s founder and leader Sascha and front-woman Lucia Cifarelli, KMFDM recently celebrated their 20-year anniversary of musical excellence by performing 62 shows in 18 countries incl. the U.S., Canada, Europe, Russia and Australia, in support of their Hau Ruck album. 2006 saw the release of a new remix EP titled Ruck Zuck and the Hau Ruck Zuck USSA Tour with opening act and label-mates Combichrist.
Living by their do-it-yourself philosophy since the early-90�s, KMFDM developed a strong internet presence (kmfdm.net) whilst the web was still in its infancy, as well as their own online KMFDM store and as of more recently, their own label KMFDM Records.
In addition to their newest album, 2007�s TOHUVABOHU, KMFDM have re-released their entire back catalog from the band's Wax Trax! Records era as KMFDM Classics via Metropolis Records/KMFDM Records. All KMFDM Classics are remastered with deluxe booklets featuring liner notes, photos, lyrics and more, some contain extra tracks. All ten KMFDM Classics from 1986's What Do You Know, Deutschland? to 1999�s Adios are available now, alongside all of their more recent releases.
Now in their 24th year, KMFDM remain a musical entity to be reckoned with. Through relentless and unceasing experimentation and reinvention they have continued to top themselves. KMFDM�s new album, TOHUVABOHU, is no exception.
Tohuvabohu, an Old Testament word meaning wild and chaotic, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of KMFDM on the tracks contained therein. While staying true to their Ultra-Heavy Beat, TOHUVABOHU also dares to venture into new territories, ultimately scorching everything in its path. KMFDM invites you to celebrate chaos with TOHUVABOHU.
