Alright i was begged asked nicely to make a guide for you exchanging learners....
Just a word of warning: i'm not good at these things so don't expect much

Okies to break it down there are certain types of items:

Commons or store bought items:
These are bought from the store, paid by either Gaia cash, Gold or tickets.
Usually are found to be a bit harder to sell depending on their store price in the exchange compared to Donation items.(see further down)
In the exchange you will never get store price for an item.

Casino items:
Items bought by usuing tickets that you have won from gaia cards or sluts slots.

Donation items(now known as monthly collectables):
these items are one bought from users using a variety of methouds, paypal, visa, mail phone...you get the picture
At the start of every month an influx of sealed letters comes in.
the price of them on the first 4 days is unstable and drops.
its between the 4-10th of each month that the sealed letters are reasonably cheap and stable.
depending on the clues given ou around the 11th determins whether thre is 2-3 items inside.
on the 15th, the items inside are released.
Depending on the users response to the new items (whether they like them or not) determines whether the price increase or decrease.

Event items:
Event items are items that have a significance meaning of gaia storyline or history.
the main events that occur annually are:
the anual gaia ball
easter
halloween
christmas
But this year the mods introduced st. patrics day and april fools.
Usually collecting these they can increase in value with time.
Like antiques.

Quest items:
with the intorduction of gaian quests, items usually are involved from sponsership.
for each part of a quest each account can get 3 of each item.
over a course of time the quest becomes disabled therefore you can no longer participate.

Alright now that we got the classification of items outta the way
time to learn, so put on those glasses and pay attention.

When your just starting out with the exchange I recommend having aroun 10k to start off with.

But I dont even have a K you say; why sell anything you get in the daily chance and buy your self a vending and trading pass.
that should cost you 1.5k for both.
Buy selling stuff from the daily chance you can make gold even if you just sell back to shops.
But I like this item; chances are you will probly get the item once again in the daily chance so don't frett.

Now that you've bought a trading and vending pass sell your inks, bugs and paper on the marketplace. buy doing so you should get up to 5k no problems.
To gather up the extra 5k try to snip the vend(marketplace) for any cheap items that are selling for lower then sell back.

Now with the 10k you can start dealing with the newer DI/MC items in the exchange.
When posting in threads and asking to buy remember common curtesy such as please and thank you's
and try conversing with your seller.
If they like you they may just sell to you lower.
Keep doing this until you get around 50k
then you can start on exchanging with a more broader range, but still remember curtesy.

Remember any profit is good profit.

after reaching 150k you can start exchanging with most '05 items and a few '04 item.

Once reaching 1mil, you can exchange with every '04, '05, '06, '07 item
but not the '03 ones cause they're from 2-3mil +

just keep at it and remember everyones looking for a profit in the exchange, and chances are you will run into:
hackers: who post link, never click a link with out knowing where it will take you too. Usually they dont care about your account or your worth, they'll try and get anyone and everyone. don't let them.

Scamers: if a trade seems to good to be true chances are it is. never do a multiple trade, which means having to do more then 1 trade window, unless you really know and really trust the person.
otherwise you may have lost most your worth and gotten nothing in return.
Always double check trades before confirming.

or just some plain and down right rude people.
Don't let them dis-hearten you.
Alot of old exchangers are harsh on new ones, you just have to keep a level head and eventually they'll come around andyou'll start making friends in no time.

Now if my guide did nothing to help you then read my first post as I clearly stated im not good at these things.

These posts are copy writted by LekLek.
No-one is to repost or re-use them. Even if you do ask me if you can
I'll say no.
This was my time, effort and words put into these two posts. No stealing.
Thank you and enjoy the exchange.

Alright so i've gone through the basics,
but I left out an important thing.
Sure Exchanging can bring you profit, but exchanging with the wrong items can leav you bankrupt.

So heres a few simple things to remember when you think your getting a good bargin.

Is the itemAI (artificially inflated):
if it is then what seems like a good buy is infact a really really bad one, for within a few hours to days the item with go back to its original price which is less then what you paid for, and grudgingly you will sell cause you just want more gold to exchange with.

How many letters does it have?
Most exchanges are well aware of the 3 letter glitch in the marketplace, therefor some items are unsearchable, eg. OMG, BTK, Bao, AFK and even though it has more then three letters the Emo bag.

K = 1000
M = 1000000
DI/ MC = Donation Item/ Monthly Collectable
