What is pinup?
Pin-up is (mainly) art or photography of a beautiful woman. Originally for, you guessed it, pinning up on a wall. Clever name, huh?
Its tasteful and sweet. Theres nothing porn-ish about it. Pin-ups are usually not naked. They may be provocatively covered by say, leaves, hair, flowers, and so on. But that rule has mainly gone out the window today. ;] Check out some of our links to get a better idea and feel for pin-up girls.
What is Burlesque?
Think of vaudevillian showgirls. Thats the best way I can put it.
Its a really classy, sometimes funny, striptease. Not some skanky "gentleman's club" by the airport. No Sir. These ladies are powerful sex-pots. Not objects. You're quite lucky to see them perform, not the other way around. Think of teasing feather fans and glitter.
If you have a local burlesque show, go see it.
Theres no other description that is better than just seeing it for yourself.
Isn't this sexist?
Is a woman being comfortable with her body sexist? No. Is a woman being comfortable with her sexuality sexist? Not at all. I personally think people saying a woman is a whore because she posed for a couple of nude pictures is a lot more sexist than the posing was to begin with. We all need to get rid of this mentality that if a woman is sexual, she is a slut. That double standard doesn't help anyone. It just confuses.
