I know I posted about this yesterday in the Scammee Support subforum, but this is looking like something quite bad. I was fishing yesterday and today and saw the following appear underneath the ToS field (not the chatbox) while I was in a private room:

IGOLDSELL: [Itemcut_AD]supply the gaia gold quickly to u. MSN:gold_gaia@msn.com

I've also seen it like this:

IGOLDSELL: [Itemcut_AD]supply the gaia gold quickly to u. Yahoo Messenger:gaiagold@yahoo.com

The thing that's freaking me out a bit here is that there are now more and more people reporting hackings who have NOT given their passwords to anyone at all. They find that they cannot log in and are then creating a new account, only to find that somehow or another, all their items and gold are gone.

Since we check out scammers and sometimes click on links to see who the people are who are trying to scam us, it is possible that an attached virus with a keystroke logger is affecting some of the users, making it possible for the hackers to get in - either through the attachments or through the fishing rooms.

I would suggest that we keep an eye on the following thread in Q&A and avoid going to the fishing rooms until we have an idea of what's going on from Gaia admin. The incidences are being reported, so I know they are now aware of it taking place. Please spread the word to your friends. I may be feeling a bit paranoid about this, but if you check the Q&A today, you will see just how many users are being affected by this.

I've read that something similar happened in Towns not too long ago - minus the increased reports of hacked accounts.

However, I have to wonder if this is yet another way to hack - if we aren't clicking on attachments or attempting to contact this person, I'm guessing that we are safe. Just remember to run our antivirus software, clear caches, etc.

I agree that there has to be another way to hack. I recently read a topic in the questions and answers forum where a girl had been hacked shortly after recieving a pm with a scam message asking for her password. She didn't give it, but was hacked a little while later and other stuff in her computer, not just Gaia stuff, were messed up. It seemed like the entire database had gotten hacked.

I saw her message in the forum too. She insisted that she didn't respond to the PM, but I have to wonder that if there was a link on it and she did click on it, then there may have been something attached. However, the thread I posted here had a response from a mod who insisted that our accounts are secure (as long as we don't give password info away).

I'm not sure if it's a browser issue or not. When I used firefox, I didn't have it happen. When I use explorer, I see it. Happened again yesterday, but gave an ICQ number instead of an msn/yahoo chat id. Weird.

I got a PM today, with free gold as the topic, it contains an outside link... anyone wanna investigate this?
