The afternoon sun was warm and pleasant, the breezes that played through her fur as she soared over the world refreshing. This was the fourth day of her week away from her tiny bonded and the golden pinioned wyrm was thoroughly enjoying herself. It was good to have a bit of her old solitude back once in a while and she wouldn't have been much help in scouring a town in any case. People tended to either run away very fast or crowd about when they saw a wyrm and neither eventuality would assist in finding one very small biped.
Sighing contentedly to herself the red-bodied female curved her path earthwards, aiming to land on the bank of a large still lake. A drink, after all the flying she'd been doing, sounded most pleasant.
The golden-hooved creature was not the only wyrm by that lake. Just under the surface in the shallows, a long spotted form lounged on the warm rocks. It had been too long since she'd been able to fully immerse herself and the water wyrm was making the most of the cool gentle kiss of the liquid all about her. Lock would definitely have to be encouraged to travel along bodies of water in future; she'd hardly realised how much she had missed a good swim until now.
Yawing widely, the tan wyrm lifted her head out of the water to see if anything interesting was going on. As it happened, she was just in time to see a light wyrm touch down and trot over to the lake's edge to drink. Unsure of whether or not the creature would be hostile, the water dweller chose not to announce herself and remained perfectly still with her head just above water level.

Farther out, well into the deeper waters of the lake, a larger being gracefully twisted and turned in the cool waters. Occasionaly, the large creature broke the still waters as he arched to dive deeper; the sun glittered on the scales of the crest that folded and unfolded each time he breached. Finally, the creature broke the surface to reveal his identity to the mortal realm. The male water rumbled softly in the back of throat as he threaded the water with his powerful foreclaws. Although it was not the same as his beloved territory in the ocean, the lake still provided a sanctuary of sorts from the burning sun.
A flash of silver floated high above the lake shores; so high it was, one would think it was a fairy or pixie at first glance. In reality, the spec was a silver wyrm of whom was gliding upon the thermals that the ground offered to the sky-beings. He spiraled on the winds until the need to drink commanded his wings to glide towards the waters beneath him. Back-winging, the silver wyrm landed on the grasses that depicted the barrier between the forest and the shores of the lake. Folding the appentages against his back, the silver-hoofed being carefully picked his way towards the lake shore, oblivious to those that were around him.

The water was cool and clean; it tasted divine to the thirsty wyrm and she spent quite some time taking long slow gulps of the glimmering stuff. Her gold-horned head was raised only when a flash of movement caught her attention. A male water wyrm coloured an intense blue and, off to her left, a spotted female. Had she stumbled across a pair’s lands? Hopefully not; some wyrms got tetchy when time with their mate was interrupted.
"Good afternoon," the light wyrm said after a moment or two. "My name is Cloelia; I hope I'm not intruding on anybody's territory." There; that was quite a safe thing to say; the question worked equally well whether they were mated, acquainted or complete strangers.
Well that'd teach her to be a bit more aware of her surroundings, wouldn’t it? Two, make that three, other wyrms had crept up without her noticing them so absorbed in being underwater had she been. The spotted wyrm slithered out of the lake and gave the creature that had spoken a nod of greeting.
"Not mine Cloelia; so far as I'm aware this patch of land is unclaimed but I could be mistaken..." That other water wyrm was something quite nice, wasn't he now? "I'm Ayomide by the by," she added with another nod of her head and a hint of a smile to the male of her kind.

The water was indeed cool and refreshing, especially to one who had been among the clouds just a few moments ago. Stepping to the shallow waters, the silver wyrm began to drink his fill; that is, until the voices of others drifted towards him. Glancing up, the light male noticed two females, one water and the other a light like himself, were standing nearby. Standing tall, the male took a few steps foreward and stopped. His tail swished slowly from side to side, sending small ripples through the glass-like waters.
The other male, unfortunately, had not heard the spotted female greet him; he had chosen that moment to slide back into the indigo waters. Arching, he dove towards the bottom; as the last of his lengthy body vanished beneath the waves, his tail hit the surface of the water as it joined the rest of his body. This sent a small wave creening towards the shoreline and towards the other wyrms resting on the sands.

Cloelia glanced from the other light wyrm, whom she had just noticed, to the spot where the male serpentine creature had been a few moments ago and back again. Had it been something she’d said or had they just not thought of what to say in reply yet? Though she was far away from her bonded and not even in communication with the little creature, the red wyrm could almost hear the green-skinned woman's snort of disgust in the back of her mind. Men. Sighing internally, the starlight wyrm turned to face the other of her kind fully, awaiting a coherent reply to her greeting.
Aymoide clicked her tongue in annoyance as the object of her interest vanished below the lake’s surface. Just great. Well, she would wait to hear what the hooved male’s name was and then go after the other water serpent; a short wait wouldn’t kill her and there was no harm in at least being polite to the other creatures. This decided, the spotted wyrm coiled herself up on the bank and regarded the male light with her head on one side.
"Greetings," she tried with a bob of her tan head and a slight smile. Perhaps he was a little hard of hearing, or a little slow on the uptake.

"Greetings to you as well, M'ladies." The silver light approached the two females with a slow, but regal walk. All he had done was wait for their greetings before he began his. Stopping, he bowed his head in turn to first, the crimson female and then to the spotted female basking in the waters. "I am called Kanton, and I again extend greetings to you both." He gave a second bow of his head, his bright-green mane falling over his eyes.
Just then, a powerful splash rang out from the middle of the lake as the other male broke the surface again. Snout pointed to the sky, the water male swallowed his meal whole before sliding half-way into the water again. The long feelers wavered gently in the water as he glanced left and right for the school of fish that had eluded his jaws.

Well perhaps he wasn’t an idiot after all; he was certainly well spoken. Cloelia smiled at the other creature of light and returned the head bow, letting the male water wyrm to his eating for the time being. “Pleased to meet you Kanton, it’s been a while since I’ve seen another of our kind. I think I’d almost begun to forget what we look like.”
She’d never sought out her own kind before per se; by and large they were too formal, too good and kind for her to be able to get along with for long. There were exceptions to the rule she was sure but, much to the chagrin of her family, she had preferred the company of the other elements to that of her own as a youngling. Perhaps she’d grown out of it though; this encounter would help her to tell in all likelihood.
“Yes, delighted,” the silence wyrm echoed with a nod to the green-maned male. “Yourself too Cloelia,” she added to the other female as an after thought before turning to inspect the blue wyrm who had just surfaced. “Catch anything good?” she called to the crested wyrm, treating him a friendly smile.

Kanton chuckled low in his throat at Cloelias' statement. Eyes twinkling merrily, he cocked his head at her with a smile on his face. "I wouldn't suppose that would be possible, our kin look alike whether they be male or female." He stretched his neck out a bit before standing straight again. "I don't suppose that you seperated yourself from our kin? Because that is what it sounds like."
The water male chocked slightly on a mouthful of water and fish at the sudden voice; he had thought that he had the whole place to himself. Glancing this way and that, the male finally laided eyes on the owner of the voice: a spotted female of his kin was lounging on the sun-bathed rocks near the shore. He simply stared at her, so much that he didn't noticed that fish had started to fall out of the corner of his mouth.

The red female glanced over at the male water wyrm for a moment and, chuckling internally, turned back to the other light. “I suppose the blame’s to be shared,” she said, flicking an ear in a shrug. “I wasn’t quite what was welcome back where I was born and to be honest I was a bit relieved when it was suggested I go travelling and meet other kindreds.”
Cloelia glanced down at her red fur a smiled slightly. “Always looked a bit like a fire colour wise and I’ve tended to get on with them a bit better than our lot.” Still, this fellow seemed alright so far; not too stiff or too preachy. If he didn’t prove himself to be a hopeless do-gooder she might actually have found another light wyrm she could get along with.
Ayomide smiled to herself; she did like it when her appearance met with approval. On occasion she had been told that she was too dull to be pretty but she’d always scoffed at that. Her muted tones were easily equal to more vivid hues…. Though perhaps not equal to this one’s colouring. She’d seldom seen such aesthetic colouring.
“Excuse me,” she said to the pair of light wyrms with a smile as she got to her feet and padded into the water. Once her tail had finally slid off the bank, the spotted female swam slowly over to the crested male, halting a polite distance from him. He was losing his fish.
“My name is Ayomide,” she informed the blue wyrm with a smile and a dip of her head. “Delighted to meet you…” the tan female let the ellipsis hang, hoping that the long-bodied male would insert his name into the pause.

The male flicked his slightly and pawed at the ground. "Many of our kin are too proud to take in someone who does not look nor act like themselves. It sickens me at times..." His ears flicked backwards as a wisp of smoke curled up from his nostrils, both expressions of his anger.
His expression grew gentle again, he could could never stay angry for long. "I don't blame you for staying with the flame wyrms, and i'm not saying you shouldn't have." He gave the crimson female, Cloelia her name was, a smile. "If they accepted you, then i can understand why you get along with them so well."
As the female started to climb off the shore, Muir finally fealized that fish was coming out of his mouth. Snapping his jaws shut, he quickly swallowed them; he then noticed that she had stopped someways away, but was watching him with large brown eyes.
"Ayomide..." The male rolled the name rolled in his head a bit, a unique name not unlike his own. Threading the waters, he swan a bit closer to the spotted female. There, he cast her a gentle smile and his own name.
"I am called Muir, M'lady. It is an honor to meet with one such as yourself." He gave a polite bow of his head, the crest ontop unfolding somewhat.]

Cloelia smiled and bobbed her head to the male’s words. “Yes, I got on well with a lot of them. They didn’t mind that I didn’t always want to do what might be best for other, for the greater good and such.” The patterned female’s smiled became somewhat wry and lopsided. “Don’t get me wrong,” she went on, batting fly away with her tail, “I’m not only out for myself I’m just not quite as… well as good as a lot of our kind are. I tend to put me and mine above other concerns. Selfish perhaps but that’s the way I am.” And she didn’t give a twig what anyone else had to say about that.
“Muir.” Ayomide tried the name out on her tongue, smiling slightly at the pleasing sound. “The pleasure is all mine I assure you,” she went on after a moment, the fins on the sides of her head fanning slowly back and forth in a relaxed fashion. The male had come a bit closer now, he was even handsomer close up, and to the spotted female this was a good sign. If he was unfriendly he would have stayed back and now that she could see him better the water wyrm could be almost sure that there wasn’t even a hint of aggression in his richly hued eyes.
“Do you live here?” the female asked, glancing about at their surroundings. “Or are you just passing through, like me.” If this was his territory, if she was welcome, perhaps she could wait here for Lock to finish his ‘business’ in two rather than at their previously elected rendezvous point. If he didn’t live here… well, she was sure she could arrange a way to spend more time in his company. Being away from water as much as she was she had missed the company of her own sort, as well as simply the chance to swim about.

Kanton gave a soft chuckle at Cloelias' words. "I agree with your notions, i'm the same in some ways." He tilted his head slightly, a small smile plastered on his features. "While I enjoy helping those who truely need it, I also know when to stay out of their way: wyrms and humans alike. Most of our kin just don't know when to stop helping." "Oh no, Lady Ayomide! The pleasure is all mine, it's not often that I meet one of my own kin." His own fins began fanning atn the relaxed air around them; it was a good thing too, most female wyrms tended to be a bit more agressive towards males. This one, however, was not...she was also beautiful as well. Muir had never seen one such as her and her beauty, along with the kindness in her eyes, caused a feeling to worm it's way into his heart.
"Uh....yes and no, Lady Ayomide." He glanced around at the serene surroundings of the lake. "While I enjoy being here, my heart and soul truely belong in Posidens' kingdom. The lake is...far too calm for my tastes." He gave Ayomide a soft look, sadness shimmering in the depths of his blue-green eyes.

The starlight wyrm smiled and nodded to the other’s words. Inside however she felt a niggle of doubt. It wasn’t that she minded helping other people particularly but… but it wasn’t something she’d ever gone out of her way to do. A casual phrase once uttered by her bonded echoed back through her mind as she pondered this.
If people are stupid enough to get themselves in trouble or too damn pathetic to haul themselves up one way or another they’re almost best left alone.
She didn’t quite believe this, didn’t believe that Bella really believe it either, but perhaps there was a grain of that sentiment in her heart. Helping was something she did on a whim, not a regular occurrence even if a deserving party happened along.
“Yes,” the red creature said after a moment or two, her internal reservations about how the conversation was turning kept well hidden. “Nosey lot we can be stereotypically. Glad I didn’t end up like that; you have to know when to be the good person and when things are best left well enough alone.”
Ayomide smiled and nodded at the other water wyrm. “Ah, the ocean. I’ve visited once or twice but never for very long. A stunning place to be if I recall rightly; so vast and so powerful. Perhaps I shall have to encourage my bonded to wander coastward next, hum?” It would be nice to go there again actually; the saltiness of the water was a pleasant change from fresh and last she’d been there she’d taken a liking to some of the shelled creatures that lived on the seabed.
“Oh,” the spotted wyrm gave Muir another smile as she scratched at a minor itch behind one head fin, “it occurs to me to ask; do you have a bonded?” She knew that there were some wyrms who didn’t like to take a biped companion for one reason or another but on first acquaintance she always found herself assuming that every wyrm had one hidden away somewhere.

Kanton shuffled a bit, eyes glittering with humor. "Perhaps we are nosey, but that's what makes us different. Maybe they should re-name us from the light wyrms to the Nosey wyrms." Kanton gave a soft chuckle, shaking his head in the process. The silver wyrm had said such to cheer up his companion.
Muir smilied at the memories of his beloved homeland. "Yes...a truely wonderful place. Although unpredictable at times, the ocean provides a place where all sea creatures can dwell. It's strength and beauty are practically un-matched."
The male then started at Ayomides' question...one he was unwilling to answer. Eyes dulling slightly, his crest folded against his neck as the memories re-surfaced. "A bonded....yes, I use to have one... She was the one who raised me since I was a hatchling but...I lost her when I was a youngling." While no tears where shed at the memories, the scar was still there. It would always be there. "A shadow wyrm, and an ancient one at that, had attacked the village she lived in...very few...survived that attack."

Indeed, Cloelia brightened somewhat at this, giving a soft snort of amusement. “Perhaps they should; I know that there are quite a lot who’d be happy to start the tradition.” Mostly shadows so far as she was aware; light and dark seldom got on well in her experience. Whoever said that opposites attracted had clearly missed a very important example to the contrary.
The golden-horned female glanced briefly over at the two water wyrms, snorting again as she noted how far out they were. “Well, I suppose four way conversations aren’t easy between strangers but really,” she tossed her head at the long wyrms. “Anyone would think we didn’t exist,” she joked with a chuckle.[/ color]
“Oh… Well now she felt like an idiot. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have mentioned it.” Had she been taking Lock for granted? Probably; she’d never even considered what losing the gregarious half-elf would be like. Like losing a limb and a piece of her soul at the same time. The spotted wyrm sank into the water a little until only her head was visible above the surface. “Did…” she probably shouldn’t keep asking things but somehow she couldn’t help it. “Did you ever catch up with it, the shadow wyrm I mean?”
What if something happened to Lock when she wasn’t around? Oh she knew the thief was capable of looking after himself under normal circumstances but against a wyrm? She’d never heard of a biped take on a wyrm alone and win; there were few enough cases she’d heard of when the wyrm was merciful and let them live. Perhaps she should keep the green-eyed man a bit closer in future. Not right by her side every hour of the day or anything but perhaps it would be good not to go too far away from him in case she was needed.
