Well, I for one love using odd time signature all the time. Whenever I can, I use them. An odd thing about me though, I usually end up writing in odd time signatures, not forcing them to be odd. I'll write something pretty neat and count it out and it'll end up being in...15/8 or so. But nonetheless, I do just love using them.
My newest piece goes something like this: 7/8 then 5/4 (x2), 7/8 then 11/8 (x2), 6/8 to 13/8 (x2), 7/8 to 9/8....then I cruise around in 4/4 for a while. That's all I've got so far.
But again, I do so enjoy odd time signatures! (I'm a guitarist and a violinist, by the way.)
Do you? And if so, why do you?

I try to pick up on odd time signatures when I'm playing guitar. I like to focus towards more progressive style riffs and that gets the technical aspect really spastic and fun to play. smile
Canvas Solaris is a big influence on my proggy guitar playing.

I started composing a song in 13/8 recently. It's all based on the fib sequence, it turned out quite nicely I think.

Moonlite Symphony I started composing a song in 13/8 recently. It's all based on the fib sequence, it turned out quite nicely I think. Oh, a song on the Fibonacci sequence? Sounds like a blast. 1 1 2 3 5 8 13, if I'm not mistaken? I once got the idea of writing a song counting off some prime numbers from a web comic I read. 3, 5, 7, 11. First two were over four, the others were over eight. It was rather fun. Though I've yet to finish working on something that goes numerically to 11. Always wanted to do that.

Yup I should make a prime number song. An 11/8 can't be too hard.

This is the song I'm working on in 13/8. This is a version with no rhythm. I'm having trouble composing the second portion of the composition where percusion comes in and it gets less ambient. I felt that this, in all it's simplicity was a fine enough thing by itself and may as well show it off until I finish this thing.

I usually stick to the basic 4/4 time. However it's getting pretty boring. One of my songs is in 5/4. I had a tough time figuring out what time signiture it was in because I had played it first and I had to rearrange a few things after that. I've been meaning to try 7/8 time. It has a really odd way of playing and I like playing in 6/8 because sometimes it has this Classical feel to it. 3/4 is great as well. When playing in that time signiture I tend to get this entrancing sound from it.
